  7. #OnThisDay in 1943, #JohnWalker [Maus], American rock vocalist (Walker Brothers - "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine (Anymore)"), born in New York City (d. 2011).

  8. Sad to hear that John Walker has died. He was such an interesting person - I wouldn't know where to begin to describe his impact on the tech world, well beyond Autodesk. His unlikely book “The Hackers Diet” fourmilab.ch/hackdiet/ helped me get fit, and stay fit.

  9. #JohnWalker explains here how badly #NAT broke the #E2E principle of the net, leading to the cancerous growth of the #datafarms

It's almost as if it was planned that way ...

  10. @Brightlady_Lise I came online in the mid-90s and consider myself a second-generation netizen. This appendix to a long-form piece by first-generation netizen #JohnWalker challenged my 'anonymity as cornerstone of the internet' assumptions:

The whole piece is well worth the time to read.

  11. Although it doesn't affect the main thrust of his argument, I don't agree with Aral that the web was always centralized. There are still, here and there, remnants of the pre-Geocities tradition on personal homepages hosted on the person's own desktop computer in their home or office. The changes to the ISP business that made this increasingly impractical - and set the stage for the #DataFarming business - are documented by #JohnWalker in 'The Digital Imprimatur'
