I finally got my Oculus Rift CV1 working on Linux using Monado, I'm excited to see how usable this is. at last I can use this lovely headset without a Facebook account :)

my only gripe with the CV1 is the display resolution being so small. I wonder if some day I could hack denser panels into it?

Does someone have current experience with #vr headsets for #gaming and watching videos?
I'm mostly interested in playing #halflifealyx and #vrchat.
I have/had a #oculusrift CV1, but it does not work anymore, due to drivers and stuff.
I also need to wear my glasses as even under such a headset, my eyesight is by far too bad.

I see the HTC Vive 2 Pro, but they still have the 2018 controllers?! And I tried them (the controllers) and don't like them. But I loved the OCR ones.

Today was a bad day for Linux Gaming, at least for me.

1. I wanted to play DCS: World with head teacking like always
2. My system stopped recognising my Oculus Rift CV1 sensors, throwing all sorts of USB errors in dmesg
3. I switched to the linux-lts kernel, which caused even more problems with the GPU. The graphical environment never showed up.
4. Back on the regular linux kernel, I settled for a phone strapped to my head for head tracking.
5. After two hours of gameplay, KWin crashed and failed to restore my open applications including the game.

I'm done for tonight. 😩

So, I've been unplugging my #Oculus Rift S every time I'm done using it, because there isn't really a way to turn it off and save power, prevent it from overheating in the box (like my CV1 did) etc. Today I tried something different and learned that my Rift S *will not work* if it's plugged in when my computer turns on. All this time, my paranoia was actually the right way to use the device #OculusRift #OculusRiftS #VR :hmm_cat:
