Abgesehen vom realen Risiko, dass die infantile Orange #Europa von Diensten der #Megacorps aus den #USA trennt, gibt's immer noch das Problem, dass sie für teilweise immer unzuverlässiger arbeitende Services immer mehr Geld rauspressen:

Lupa kalau punya server Vaultwarden sendiri, akhirnya donlod aplikasi Bitwarden dan login ke server selfhost.

Recurring nuisace: #Google Drive has, for as long as I've used it, been much less reliable than #Dropbox. The Mac helper thingy somehow keeps logging out, or crashing, or just not working. This is a weekly, and sometimes daily occurrence! I admit that it's been a while since I have had the pleasure of using Dropbox, but back then the Mac integration was close to flawless.

Ordered a new huge backup HDD for my #homelab . Now that more and more of my services are going to my private cloud I'm getting a little backup anxious as well.
For my off premise needs I'm still using my (family) #gdrive, connected with rclone.
Internally I have no kind of raid going, but using rsync to backup certain HDD and folders from them.
Sometimes in the future I have to take a look at my whole setup. Quite Frankenstein-y right now.

Has anyone succeeded in accessing #GDrive files from a file manager under Linux?
I tried the gdrive kioslave (using Dolphin under KDE), but it fails because --
Unable to create KIO worker. Unknown protocol 'gdrive'.
Searching Synaptic, the only thing with "gdrive" in it was that kioslave, which (of course) I installed. DDGing for information about this finds very little, and a lot of what I find is wrong or outdated, and none of it mentions the gdrive protocol. The instructions for the kioslave seem to think It Just Works.
(Google's desktop client is only available for WIndows and Mac, and the Windows version won't install under WINE.)
I'm using the latest Kubuntu (24.10).

Since Google deleted one of my accounts last week (and provided no way to contest its deletion or restore it), I've been worried about my main Google account. I was able to download all my Google Drive docs using rclone today.

Backup. Файловое резервное копирование бюджетного VPS
Предыстория. В своё время, когда мне надо было найти решение этого вопроса на Хабре, казалось, что все статьи состоят из установки и настройки Veeam Backup, Proxmox Backup и прочих коммерческих решений для блочных устройств. У меня запросы поскромнее. SLA и 3-2-1 не требуются. Достаточно восстановить работоспособность за пару часов или хотя бы пару дней. В общем, в поиске нужной статьи мне не особо повезло. Зато в комментах оказались интересные находки. Попробовав некоторые из них, в итоге остановился на описанном ниже варианте. Настроил и забыл. В качестве облачного хранилища ранее был выбран Storj. Но недавно они превратили бесплатные аккаунты в триальные. Пришлось отказаться, пересесть на Mega и освежить в памяти настройки. Заодно и выложить сюда. Надеюсь, кому-то тоже пригодятся. TL;DR Статья состоит из настройки rsnapshot, rclone и небольшого скрипта автоматизации.

One bummer about Proton Drive, you can't edit files there. That's how I currently use GDrive - to sync editing documents from phone to laptop. That's okay, though. Proton Drive is definitely great for storage. I love the full encryption and security, and not having to rely on Google for storage is a huge plus. Proton is also nice & simple to use. It's the perfect place to restart my storage in a clean fashion. Sometimes a good refresh of things can be exactly what you need.

Proton Drive is definitely great for storage. I love the full encryption and security, and not having to rely on Google for storage is a huge plus. Proton is also nice & simple to use. I still need to get out of the habit of using GDrive, but today I backed up everything important from mine. I just keep seeing reports of people seeing their GDrives reverting back to how they were in April of this year (and NO THANK YOU to that - I'd lose SO much). So I backed it all up locally.
Also, starting December 1, Google will start deleting "inactive" accounts (accounts that haven't been used in at least 2 years).
Back up your stuff sooner than later!

At first I thought this was sorted (descending) by Last Modified. No, it's a dropdown that lets you change which field is shown. There is another arrow next to it to show the sort order.

#GDrive Alternativen: Habe bisher #OnlyOffice, #CollaboraOnline und #Cryptpad ausprobiert.
Für die echtzeit Kollaboration war Cryptpad bisher am schnellsten, keine Lags und angenehm zu nutzen.
OnlyOffice hat gar nicht zusammen geklappt, das lag aber am CommunityServer. Finde super, dass es 2 Modi gibt: Strict und Fast. Machen beide großen Sinn
Collabora Klappt aber sehr laggy. Man ist sich gegenseitig in die Quere gekommen weil es keinen „Schutzraum“ für den eigenen Text Input gab.
