  1. Okay, a bit miffed now.

Was going through the list of accounts that I follow to see if there were any inactive ones or any that I don't wish to follow anymore & I was finding that when I went to several profiles (on different servers) that most of them displayed as if I was not following them.
The button that should say Unfollow showed up as the Follow button.
On a couple I clicked the Follow button to see what would happen & it brought up a dialogue box asking me to sign in, offering a field to enter my full handle in. This makes no sense as I'm already logged in on my instance & I doubt me logging in to their instance would work as I do not have an account there.

Could someone explain what that's about as it's a little disturbing to a non-tech head?

    Thanks 🙂

  6. Back in 2015~ I used to read a tech magazine published in Italy, and a thing from it has been stuck in my head:

It was a mesh network, but unlike Meshtastic, its main purpose was file sharing (yes, that kind, but also things like guides or recipes)
I think the name was bird-themed?

    Anyone remember?

  11. I... need help with a really silly thing.

My phone has been auto-opening the Studio Shirafune website (studio I know, non-malicious) at random for days and I've scanned my phone with 3 different virus scanners, cleared my browser history, closed all tabs, etc. and Nothing. Nothing is fixing it.

There's no strange apps, no files I don't recognise, nothing. I'm at a loss.

  15. Hey y'all. What's up?

I’m trying to install Microsoft Word on Windows but running into issues. Downloaded Microsoft 365 from the official site, opened the EXE, and it keeps saying “could not install.” Anyone run into this before or know a fix?

Also open to alternatives for writing that sync well between phone and computer if Word keeps acting up.

  20. Hi fedi, I am trying to install Void Linux in a virtual machine (as a stepping stone to considering running it as my main distro).

I managed to set up the base system and installed the
plasma-desktop and sddm packages, but I cannot actually get Plasma to launch. When I run startplasma-wayland from the tty, I get the following error

org.kde.startup: not a reply org.freedesktop.locale1 QDBusMessage(type=Error, service="", error name="org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown", error message="The name org.freedesktop.locale1 was not provided by any .service files", signature="s", contents=("The name org.freedesktop.locale1 was not provided by any .service files"))
startplasmacompositor: Could not start D-Bus. Can you call qdbus?
Note: I manually transcribed the error message from the VM screen, so I might have made a typo.

The same error results whether I am running a user or root terminal.

The [documentation says](docs.voidlinux.org/config/graphical-session/kde.html) that Plasma requires both the
dbus and sddm services, so I went back to the documentation on enabling services to enable both of them. They provide two methods of enabling services:
    # ln -s /etc/sv/dbus /var/service/
    and
    # ln -s /etc/sv/dbus /etc/runit/runsvdir/default/
I tried both of these methods in separate copies of my VM, and then verified using sv status dbus and sv status sddm that the services were running. It made no difference: attempting to start plasma gives the same error. I tried using sv to restart both services and it made no difference.

Search engines did not yield anything helpful: all the results were
    a) Discussions about Arch using SystemD, or
    b) Folks asking for help starting Plasma 5 with x11.

Also, most folks asking for help on search engines could already start Plasma manually, but couldn't get it to start automatically on boot. I am not able to launch Plasma
    at all.

I did find someone with the same question as me from almost a year ago, but no solution.

  25. Any #FFMPEG or #Krita experts about?
Been fighting with both trying to get them to export a animation as a video with alpha channel transparency on linux 😅
    I am trying to convert it to a format supported by OBS for stream transitions but nothing seems to be exporting with compatible transparency ^^;
I have tried my best rendering it with encoders that support it (AV1, VP9, HVEC) but it keeps producing a black background

I have it as WEBP and KRA and raw frames

  32. My #garmin doesn't seem to be charging anymore. The connector is proprietary so I don't want to drop money on it and find out it's the watch that's broken. I took out my multimeter and tested continuity and resistance of all four pins in the cable. That seemed to indicate the cable is good, but I didn't test voltage. Can I assume at this point the cable is good and it's the watch's jack that's busted?
