Tech help please. Is there a bootable USB image that I can download and use to test hardware?
Back in the day, I would have used Ultimate Boot CD but I don't know if that is still a thing, or if it will work with modern hardware.
Any suggestions? Boosts welcome.

It's a Brother colour laser (HL-L8250CDN). Sometimes it prints a page or two OK; sometimes I get the waste of toner on the right. Yesterday, it printed three pages and switched suddenly from dark to clear mid-page. Then it printed 12 pages OK. The next six pages were all dark again.
Today, I did a couple of tests. The first page was fine. The second, a minute later, wasn't.

Okay fedi, I need help using my 8bitdo Ultimate C wired gaming controller on my desktop.
I recall doing some fiddling a few years ago and I got it to work with Mint. I don't remember what I did. A month ago I tried using it again on Debian and it didn't work. I have now switched to Void, where it also doesn't work.
Google and DDG results are dominated by discussion of connecting wireless controllers over Bluetooth. Many of them say things like "as a fallback, you can plug your controller in through a USB port and it will work automatically." Except...it doesn't work. My controller is wired only (I don't think it supports bluetooth at all).
So, let's start with the first test. If I plug my controller into my phone, running stock Android, it works automatically with no configuration required. I tested it with the Android version of @[email protected] . So I know the controller itself is not broken.
According to the official instruction manual, when plugging it in to a Raspberry Pi, you must hold 'B' until the controller's light turns on and stays on (not blinking). I do this when plugging it in to my computer. I just tried installing @[email protected] on my laptop and I am having trouble.
I previously installed it successfully in a virtual machine, so I tried replicating the same steps. I got through the installer pretty easily, and rebooted into the tty. Then I ranxbps-install -Suto update, followed by# xbps-install NetworkManager pipewire sddm xorg plasma-desktop kate konsole
Then I tried "linking services." I have never actually done this in my previous decade using Linux: I am just following the directions in the Void documentation.# ln -s /etc/sv/dbus /var/service/ # ln -s /etc/sv/sddm /var/service/
After I did that the sddm login manager immediately started automatically. I typed in my password and...nothing. I get a completely blank black screen. Nothing displayed. No input. No output.
I tried rebooting, and it automatically launches SDDM again. Typing my password in has the same effect.
Rebooting again, I looked for any options in SDDM I could change, but there aren't any I can find. Despite installing the xorg package, SDDM only gives me the option to log in with Wayland. I also don't know how to quit out of SDDM and go back to the tty.
I tried rebooting in recovery mode, hoping it would give me a tty, but it doesn't: even in recovery mode it launches sddm automatically, and logging in gives me a frozen blank screen.
There are three kernels installed (which I can see from GRUB): 6.12.11_1, 6.12.95_1, and 6.18.38_1. Booting with any of these kernels, with or without recovery mode, gives the same effect.
Is there a way to fix this system?
EDIT: Thanks to @[email protected] for reminding me that ctrl+alt+f1 switches to a tty. So now the question is what I can install or configure to make Plasma work.
EDIT 2:
From the TTY I tried installing other GUIs: Weston, Sway, LXQt, and Cinnamon.
Weston and Sway give the exact same trouble as Plasma.
OpenBox (installed automatically with LXQt) gives a blank gray screen instead of a blank black screen.
Cinnamon and LXQt work, BUT there is no wifi. The wi-fi icon in the task bar is present, but clicking it reveals nothing. No networks to connect to, no settings, no "can't find any networks" error. I previously had this issue when installing Debian

I just tried installing @[email protected] on my laptop and I am having trouble.
I previously installed it successfully in a virtual machine, so I tried replicating the same steps. I got through the installer pretty easily, and rebooted into the tty. Then I ranxbps-install -Suto update, followed by# xbps-install NetworkManager pipewire sddm xorg plasma-desktop kate konsole
Then I tried "linking services." I have never actually done this in my previous decade using Linux: I am just following the directions in the Void documentation.# ln -s /etc/sv/dbus /var/service/ # ln -s /etc/sv/sddm /var/service/
After I did that the sddm login manager immediately started automatically. I typed in my password and...nothing. I get a completely blank black screen. Nothing displayed. No input. No output.
I tried rebooting, and it automatically launches SDDM again. Typing my password in has the same effect.
Rebooting again, I looked for any options in SDDM I could change, but there aren't any I can find. Despite installing the xorg package, SDDM only gives me the option to log in with Wayland. I also don't know how to quit out of SDDM and go back to the tty.
I tried rebooting in recovery mode, hoping it would give me a tty, but it doesn't: even in recovery mode it launches sddm automatically, and logging in gives me a frozen blank screen.
There are three kernels installed (which I can see from GRUB): 6.12.11_1, 6.12.95_1, and 6.18.38_1. Booting with any of these kernels, with or without recovery mode, gives the same effect.
Is there a way to fix this system?
EDIT: Thanks to @[email protected] for reminding me that ctrl+alt+f1 switches to a tty. So now the question is what I can install or configure to make Plasma work.

From the TTY I tried installing other GUIs: Weston, Sway, LXQt, and Cinnamon.
Weston and Sway give the exact same trouble as Plasma.
OpenBox (installed automatically with LXQt) gives a blank gray screen instead of a blank black screen.
Cinnamon and LXQt work, BUT there is no wifi. The wi-fi icon in the task bar is present, but clicking it reveals nothing. No networks to connect to, no settings, no "can't find any networks" error. I previously had this issue when installing Debian

Guys, any hot tips to repair a corrupted USB stick before I hand it over to my father to run his forensic-level Lord High Computationer (shhh the syllables fit) sorcery? (I'm pretty sure I don't have anything SUPER private on it - but it's the principle of the thing!) (Also I like to fix things myself.)
I have a low-CPU machine running Linux Mint (noob user, though), a Chromebook that's just starting to go out-of-date, and standard Windows.

I've got an A1466 running 26.1, everything works except for mirroring (no t2) and apple intelligence (no neural engine) and the wifi(???)
So obviously I'm trying to get the wifi working, since it'd be a snowball's chance in hell for the other things to work.
IDK literally anything about macOS under the hood except that its darwin which is (kind of) a BSD, so I'm like way out of my depths here.

Was going through the list of accounts that I follow to see if there were any inactive ones or any that I don't wish to follow anymore & I was finding that when I went to several profiles (on different servers) that most of them displayed as if I was not following them.
The button that should say Unfollow showed up as the Follow button.
On a couple I clicked the Follow button to see what would happen & it brought up a dialogue box asking me to sign in, offering a field to enter my full handle in. This makes no sense as I'm already logged in on my instance & I doubt me logging in to their instance would work as I do not have an account there.Could someone explain what that's about as it's a little disturbing to a non-tech head?
