@lmgenealogy #rclone has some support for #protondrive. Sadly someone will need to open a shell to get it working, but I use rclone mount (cache mode full) a lot for dealing with remote files.
For distro, Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora are all solid for general use and fairly beginner friendly.

@protonprivacy the problem with Protons services, is that every App they create works great: for 95%.
5% are "annoying bugs", that never get solved. Contacting support is useless. Obviously support employers cannot solve bugs.The thing is, driving a car where 5% does not work - like without properly functioning tires or whatever - becomes problematic quite quickly.

I logged into my very first @protonprivacy account today - the one I created way back on November 19, 2014, during the closed beta. The Proton Drive section had been deleted due to inactivity, so I had to initialize it again from scratch.
When I did, I noticed a really unusual onboarding feature - they give you a 10-minute countdown timer, and any files you upload during this window simply do not count toward your storage quota.
I have never seen another cloud provider do something quite like this. It is a really clever way to encourage users to migrate their data right away.

I finally defeated the final boss of my backup migration to Proton Drive.
For months, I have been trying to sync my 500GB media library (around 80k files) to Proton Drive. Every single time, the sync crashed with the exact same error: "1 item failed to backup." The only clue I had was a blurry thumbnail named "Asset 1". No date, no metadata, no search tags.
I was so frustrated that I even asked Proton support to completely wipe my encrypted volume so I could start from scratch. The result was exactly the same.
Finding this file became a manual protocol. I spent months periodically scanning through thousands of files just looking for a visual match to that tiny thumbnail. I finally found it today. It was an old scan from 2017. It was completely frozen - uneditable, unindexed, and gave an error when I tried to export it from my phone.
I managed to track it down via macOS. When I forced an export there, the truth came out: it was not an image at all. It was a .pdf file somehow saved into the photo gallery, and it was silently breaking the entire upload queue.
Removing it fixed everything. The sync is finally 100% complete. The relief of finally closing this mental background process is unmatched.

I just opened up a Proton Drive, but for some reason after doing the starting chores, I didn't get the bumped up storage that was advertised everywhere.
It's still 2GB instead of 5GB.
Anyone else had similar problems? I did send them a support ticket.
I did, however, get the upgrade from 500MB to 1GB in Proton Mail.

I just (finally!) cancelled my #dropbox subscription as part of my move away from propritary (esp. American) tech! 🎉
I've been a subscriber since I was a teenager and it has taken me a while to work out how to untangle myself from this one!
(I'm moving to #ProtonDrive and #BorgBackup instead)

Best wel grappig is dat ik nu op een oude laptop waar geen Windows-11 meer op kon al meer dan een maand Linux (Mint/Cinnamon) zit te "testen". Mijn "goede" laptop waar wel Windows-11 op staat ligt te verstoffen.
Aldfaer is gemigeerd naar Gramps. OneDrive naar ProtonDrive. MS-Office vervangen door LibreOffice.
Het enige minpuntje wat mij betreft is nog ProtonDrive, die (nog) geen app heeft voor Linux. Maar die zou er ook dit jaar nog aan moeten komen las ik!

Jeg ved godt, man ikke skal sammenligne 1:1 med Google, men Proton er for mig at se alt alt for langsomt. I appen er den flere minutter om at vise thumbnails...på pc viser den kun få af gangen, før den glemmer dem igen 🙄
Nu prøver jeg Ente, som umiddelbart virker meget meget bedre ... #degoogle #protondrive #proton
