Flash Alert: EtherRat and TukTuk C2 End in The Gentleman Ransomware

An intrusion was observed in April 2026 where threat actors deployed EtherRAT malware through a malicious MSI installer disguised as a Sysinternals tool. The malware utilized Ethereum blockchain via EtherHiding for dynamic C2 configuration updates. Following reconnaissance activities, actors deployed TukTuk malware framework using DLL sideloading techniques with legitimate applications like Greenshot and SyncTrayzor. TukTuk established C2 channels through SaaS platforms including ClickHouse and Supabase, with backup channels via Ably, Dropbox, and GitHub Issues. The actors performed Kerberoasting, credential theft via Mimikatz and LSASS dumping, and deployed GoTo Resolve RMM tooling for lateral movement. Data exfiltration to Wasabi cloud storage was conducted using Rclone before deploying The Gentlemen ransomware domain-wide through a malicious GPO. The intrusion leveraged blockchain infrastructure, SaaS platforms, and decentralized services to evade traditional network defenses.

Not only am I changing geographic #locations. I will be migrating over time #digitally as well. I don't mind maintaining multiple copies of my data and managing an outside copy somewhere. #RClone and credible #external #secured storage. I was a #DBA for two and a half decades. Still like a habit.

I adopted the `bisync` rclone command when it was still is beta, and the documentation said reports of its utilization in the wild were welcome. I stalled so much that, when I got around to tell the forum how's it going, the command was not in beta anymore 🙃

@lmgenealogy #rclone has some support for #protondrive. Sadly someone will need to open a shell to get it working, but I use rclone mount (cache mode full) a lot for dealing with remote files.

For distro, Ubuntu, Mint, Fedora are all solid for general use and fairly beginner friendly.

Trigona Affiliates Deploy Custom Exfiltration Tool to Streamline Data Theft

Trigona ransomware affiliates deployed a custom exfiltration tool called uploader_client.exe during attacks in March 2026, marking a tactical shift from relying on off-the-shelf utilities like Rclone. The tool features parallel streams with five default connections, connection rotation after 2,048 MB transfers to evade network monitoring, and granular filtering to exclude low-value files. Prior to exfiltration, attackers disabled security defenses using kernel-level tools including HRSword, PCHunter, Gmer, YDark, and WKTools with vulnerable drivers. Remote access was established via AnyDesk, while credentials were harvested using Mimikatz and Nirsoft utilities. The custom tooling demonstrates higher technical maturity compared to typical ransomware operations, providing enhanced stealth capabilities while requiring greater development resources. Targeted data included invoices and high-value PDF documents from networked drives.

I removed #rclone from my #LinuxMint PC and it is much happier for it (and so am I). Somehow, asking rclone to talk to Google Drive with default application access meant it was slow and frustrating.

I've moved my #Blender3D projects back to my local drive and will simply log into Windows periodically to back up all my work files to #BackBlaze. This works fine with the resources I have to hand and have already paid for.

Someday I will de-Google and I can see heading to #myKsuite on #infomaniak for this.

I have more or less followed the default process of setting up rclone as is shown in this slighly ponderous YT video (clear, but slow to present)

I have created a restart crontab to run the mount script, but the video shows the use of an autostart script. In either case the actual command run is the same.

Why is #rclone so very slow and laggy and causing issues? Is it because I am not shovelling money into the Google engine room boilers like coal is going out of style?

#LinuxMint and #LinuxMusicProduction friends. I have a quandary. I like using Google Drive to store some of my shared data on, but this aspect of my workflow is not going well. Un-mounting my Google Drive causes my PC to be fast and lovely.

I tried using the network accounts to see my Google Drive, and this does work, but with #Blender I am shown the machine names for everything and none of my folder names are displayed correctly in Blender. Everywhere it is fine.

#rClone, or the way I have it set up on my PC is awful (I'm using free access because I can't afford a paid Google auth key for this). It causes applications to launch slowly. It causes Nemo to think it has crashed while Google Drive links take *forever* to update. And yet Blender can see this and it allows me to access (after an interminable wait) my project data.

Frustrated in New Zealand.

Solved: don’t use clone to Google Drive as I had been trying. Will detail in a reply.

Looking at the rclone when migrating files off of the old disks onto the new ones is kinda interesting.

could it be that #rclone has issues with recursive symlinks?

By now I've attached the old drives to the same system as the new ones directly and when trying to "rclone sync -cvM" I by now have no new log entry for over 3 hours. That's odd.

Yea, definitely a good decision to move the data onto new drives.

Something definitely appears wrong with these speeds for "just indexing".

Also I'm a bit confused now. Cause "btrfs filesystem df" to all three of the mountpoints underneath the path I'm trying to copy add up to 15.13 TiB.

So why does rclone report 16.498 TiB instead?
