Pese a los problemas que rodean a #Mozilla últimamente, me está tentando suscribirme a #FirefoxRelay.

No me gusta la idea de depender de otro ecosistema para ciertas cosas, pero un servicio de alias de correo no está nada mal y tampoco quiero ignorar el bien que han hecho Mozilla y Firefox en el pasado.

Given #mozilla now-ambiguous statements about privacy, what do we think about using #firefox Relay for email masking/alias?

Relay is a part of my ongoing effort to tighten up email security as I de-Google my online life. I like that Relay is free since I'm trying a bunch of new stuff and may not like it.
Otherwise my only loyalty to it is that I've already invested the time to set up the masks and forwarding, NBD.

@james I tried just yesterday to register an account on a site that uses HCaptcha. I use a screen reader on Windows and Firefox as my browser. It was completely unusable. It asked me for an 'accessibility cookie' that requires to give them a 'real email' address, refusing to accept my Firefox Relay alias. After caving in and giving them an address that i had given them a few years back and getting my accessibility cookie, the bloody captcha refused to recognise the cookie. Checking their support pages and tinkering with Firefox settings, none of which worked, I gave up and had to wait for a housemate to arrive after her work to help me solve the captcha.

TL DR: HCaptcha's accessibility sucks, full stop.

#FirefoxRelay is pretty good.

First time I saw its description, I was concerned about the vague use of "alias" because it didn't really say anything about how it behaves. It would be more accurate to call those "relay email accounts".

You sign in to some website using a generated email account, add a password, and when the website wants to verify your email, they send it to the generated email, which then relays it to you without trackers, hence the name.

You can manage each of the multiple relays you want on relay.firefox.com or with the extension, blocking the relay if the website starts sending spam.

The website then knows nothing about your true email address, yet you can act on their emails just fine.

This is very handy especially if you use the #Firefox feature that lets you generate secure passwords.

@dottorblaster, I do have a custom domain just because it's fun, but no one ever sees it because I'm a heavy user of #FirefoxRelay. Fastmail has a similar service, but it's not as seamless as Mozilla's.

@partim i use for that kind of things Firefox relay (#FirefoxRelay) it is totally integrated in the browser creates a fake email forwarding to yours and it can be frozen (stopping the forwarding) or destroyed easily. I find it quite useful for that kind of situations

@daedalousilios @tobiasctrl @thunderbird Users (some or many of them) can also be part of the problem. Contributing nothing while demanding everything including zero reliance on #Google and removal of #GoogleSearch. As users, we should subscribe to #Mozilla products like #VPN, #FirefoxRelay, etc if we can so they have an ethical revenue stream and do not need #BigTech money to survive.

#FirefoxRelay Premium is finally available in the #Czech Republic, so I subscribed to it. It's cheap (23 CZK~$1/month).

It's not just a handy way to anonymize your email, it's also a way to financially support the only independent web browser left.
