  1. Hello Mastodon community👋. I’m a Senior Lecturer in Educational Technology & TESOL, eager to connect with other academics and practitioners. Currently researching L2 #AI assisted writing in UK #highereducation.

I’m a proponent of critical #edtech & #digitalpedagogy and work to advance their presence in language education.

Also an avid reader 📚 and a thalassophile 🌊. Looking forward to connecting with you #introduction

We can also connect on 🦋 bsky.app/profile/sophiamav.bsk

  8. I'm contemplating re-running the virtual #podcast workshop series I offered back in Fall 2020. It's designed for faculty, students, and academic staff interested in using podcasts for #DigitalStorytelling, #ScholarlyCommunication, and #pedagogy.

I'd host it on 5 consecutive Fridays from Sept 29-October 27 at either 10am PST or 1pm PST.

If I offered this, would you/your students be interested? And if so, which time would you prefer? (Recordings will also be posted to our YouTube channel.)

  9. @frostdavis & I have an article coming out in the next *Debates* collection about teaching #digitalhumanities at teaching intensive institutions - though the essay was penned prior to the pandemic, it still holds true that there is a wild division in many ways (sustainability, field making, resources). Also, 3 articles in *People, Practice, Power* (a Debates vol) specifically deal with how to do DH at an under-resourced place like the Cal State U campuses (with 500k+ students/8k faculty) -- see Risam, Lach/Pressman, Pewu/Shrout dhdebates.gc.cuny.edu/read/peo #digitalhumanitiespedagogy #digitalpedagogy

  10. Since "x" went wonky, I've been missing that #digitalhumanities community. As someone who was originally part of Project Bamboo ( @quinnanya ! ), I'm seeing some old divisions pop up again with DHers not recognizing those DHers who perform #digitalhumanitiespedagogy or #digitalpedagogy . Are we getting divided again between the research intensive vs. the teaching intensive in DH?

  11. @ayliu @kfitz Digital Pedagogy in the Humanities authors broach this topic throughout the collection in various keywords and assignment briefs. Might we start with those curators who already work in this area, specifically as it relates to pedagogy so that we include the truly teaching-intensive faculty in this conversation?

  12. I'm crowdsourcing a list of books on teaching and pedagogy that had come out so far in 2023 to recommend for summer reading in my NTLF column. So, what are you suggestions? #teaching #pedagogy #highereducation #digitalpedagogy #criticalpedagogy

  13. I'm working on a workshop for faculty interested in incorporating Wikipedia into their pedagogy. If you've done this -- whether having students create/edit entries, having them analyze the talk/edit history, or something else -- I'd love to see what you've done! And/or, if you've taught a similar workshop and care to share what you've developed, I'd be v appreciative. (It's been years since I've worked in Wikipedia)

All incredible contributors to this massive open access, peer reviewed collection. Enjoy!

  15. There is an amazing article in the THES (formerly Times Higher Education Supplement) with the title

“Will online education lead to the death of conversation”.
    timeshighereducation.com/campu

The amazement is that it appears to be written by someone who has never given a lecture or attended a lecture and knows nothing about Online Education.

Here is an excellent analysis from Mark Brown.

  16. #Introduction
Now that I've been tinkering for a few weeks it's time for a second intro.
I live on the edge of the CBD of #Melbournre. I love #yoga so would love to see some #MovementCulture or #BodyWeight posts.
If I'm not contorting my body, I'm out enjoying my city. We've a vibrant fun and diverse #gay community here in Melbourne.
For employment, my partner and i have a small #LearningDesign business. My work passions are #education, #DigitalPedagogy and creating vibrant cultures of learning. I am intrigued by the #design of #LearningSpaces and sometime help #teachers transition into new learning spaces.

  17. CW: Birdsite

@hacks4pancakes My work is more aligned in and and I started looking at Mastodon six years ago since like to check new things. The education people took a serious look here back in April with the first threat of purchase of Twitter. Last month just pushed a larger quantity of that community of people over here. My interest in was accidental but I suspect that is the case for many in this area. Happy to see you all here as well.

  18. How might the #Fediverse transform the ways in which we provide education and support learning?

This is mostly me tinkering with the #Mastodon app. 😉

An important question for us to ponder.
