From presentations and workshops to panels, roundtables, and lightning talks, we’ll be learning from colleagues who are weaving together theory and practice.
"Be ready to learn! This isn't like most conferences — these speakers are bringing theory and application all at once!" shared a previous OEGlobal attendee.

Today, Dr. Kisha G. Tracy invites us to consider an important question: Is "free" truly the same as "democratic"?
In her article, “Going Beyond Access to Democratizing Knowledge,” part of our Come Invent With Us series, she shares her own journey of unlearning; encouraging us to reflect on how we approach #OER and whose voices are being centered.

From my adventures in #OpenScience and #OpenPedagogy: I always thought the importance of #OpenAccess was that people can read the paper and access the data, so sharing a version of record or a postprint of a paywalled paper would do the job. Only when I started preparing #OERs I realized the importance of licensing: being able to re-use figures, datasets, code from publications. In #sedmentology ans #geoscience #OpenAccess is a sore minority. I can access the most important papers from my field, but I cannot share my teaching based on them.
Fortunately my former supervisor agreed to license his thin section collection with a #CreativeCommons license, so I am gradually adding them here https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Geozentrum_Nordbayern (more to come).
FWIW I've also learned that @GIMP is great for editing #metadata but Mastodon web interface does not read it from the image.
