  1. Dabao is a $10 dev board with an open source Baochip-1x RISC-V microcontroller (crowdfunding)

The Dabao Evaluation board is a tiny new single-board computer with a USB 2.0 Type-C port, a 20-pin GPIO header, and a custom RISC-V chip called the Baochip-1x. It’s that last bit that makes this board distinctive.

Designed by hardware hacker bunnie Huang, the Baochip-1x is a “mostly-open” chip designed for use as a security chip and microcontroller. Huang is running a crowdfunding campaign […]

  2. Oddly... having second thoughts about going to #VCFSW.

I don't know if it's a #2025Anxiety thing or just general ennui, but all I can muster is a half-hearted, "maybe?"

You know what would be even better than a retro tech convention? A FOSS / #PermaCulture tech convention. THAT would be trippy.

Like, I love retro tech. I lived through that era. Sitting in front of the machines that meant so much to me growing up is a wonderful feeling.

But I guess nostalgia alone doesn't really soothe the dystopia-anguished heart. Not for long.

I miss going to #LinuxUserGroups. There was one in OKC in the 2000s, and it was always a lot of fun.

Instead of looking backwards at retro tech (which will always be awesome, just to be clear), just imagine a #FOSS/#PermaComputing symposium/convention of awesome nerds like @jacqueline, @neauoire, @mntmn, #BunnieHuang, and maybe some folks from @frameworkcomputer

    That would be AWESOME!

  3. Write up of how Israeli bombings of Hezbollah using pagers may have happened and implications of it for the world. Bunnie Huang’s perspective makes this a great read for anybody interested in

  4. CW: Long thread/30

This is a self-destruct switch that's been compromised by the enemy, and which no one on the bridge can de-activate - by design. It's not the first time this has happened, and it won't be the last.

There *are* models for helping your computer bust out of the Matrix. Back in 2016, Edward #Snowden and #BunnieHuang prototyped and published source code and schematics for an #IntrospectionEngine:

  7. Ran the Precursor emulator today just for fun and felt great about it. precursor.dev
    Bunnie, are you on fedi?

  8. For background, Precursor is Bunnie Huang's attempt to make a completely open and verifiable mobile system. This post is one that goes deep into the PCB (printed circuit board) manufacturing details. Things have really moved on from the days when I designed two layer PCBs in the Engineering Lab during my undergrad days. 🙂
