  1. The Film4 on demand service has British Indie flick Lola, which I caught at the 2022 @edfilmfest review here woolamaloo.org.uk/edinburgh-in

I think that will be this evening's viewing sorted...

  2. UK #film peeps, Timestalker by Alice Lowe, who brought us the brilliant, darkly funny Prevenge, is in cinemas this weekend (if you're in Edinburgh, the lovely Cameo Cinema has it).

I caught it at the #Edinburgh International Film Festival in August, and it left me with a big smile - my film fest review is on @PhilEdwards 's Live For Films here liveforfilm.com/2024/08/27/eif

  3. HELL DRIVERS (’57): Definitely not what I plan to show my 16 year old as an example of responsible road behavior. The premise of this is kinda nuts- drifters and other such desperate men hired to drive delivery trucks as fast as humanly possible on roads in horrific condition. Of course there’s a reason, eventually uncovered by ex-con hero of our #filmnoir tale. A good story with solid performances all around- also hey, young Sean Connery!- and one dynamite finish. #britishfilms

  4. Anna Neagle on the cover of the British magazine, Film Weekly — Sep. 5, 1936

  5. “So Long at the Fair” (1950) — British entry in the Noir By Gaslight collection on #CriterionChannel. A mystery where a spectacular and tragic hot air balloon crash is a merely incidental occurrence.

  6. THE WICKED LADY (’45): Yeah, this is how I like my melodrama. We start right out with Margaret Lockwood stealing her best friend’s man right before their wedding, and it only gets saucier from there. Gotta admire a woman who gets so bored scheming at home, she decides to become a highway robber. Beyond gorgeous costumes and photography, and grade-A performances from Lockwood and James Mason, this is just a terrifically fun romp. #britishfilms

  7. Ida Lupino in a scene from one of her early films in England, “Prince of Arcadia” (1933), with Peter Gawthorne and Annie Esmond — a musical in which she was featured with singer Carl Brisson and Margot Grahame. This is also one of the few films of Lupino’s I’ve not been able to track down a copy of. Any ideas?

  8. Ida Lupino and Henry Kendall in “The Ghost Camera” (1933) — one of six British films Lupino was featured in before moving to Hollywood later the same year.
