I saw the film of the Outrun last night, having seen the play on Tuesday. (Not a deliberate plan!)

It was good to compare the two media: the same story but told very differently. Both were excellent, and both were imaginative in their storytelling - interestingly, the play had a more linear but impressionistic timeline, the film jumped around as if pointillistic.

And Saoirse Ronan was remarkable in the film (as was her equivalent in the play).

I'm going to see this next week. And the film a couple of days later. The play because I thought I really ought to see some theatre in the Festival and I've always been impressed by Vicky Featherstone; the film because I was invited long after I had tickets for the play. It'll be interesting to compare the two!
