BLINDSPOTS MORTALES: LO QUE OCULTAN CANADÁ, EE. UU.
La única defensa es el conocimiento profundo.DEADLY BLINDSPOTS: WHAT CANADA, US, AND MEXICO HIDE.
By JOSE RAMÓN RAMÍREZ SÁNCHEZ | Migration and Geopolitical Analyst.Immigration is the continent's biggest technological battlefield. The system operates under "zero risk" for the State. The common error: believing meeting requirements guarantees success.
THE 5 BLINDSPOTS:
LEGAL FRAMEWORK: In Canada, "Ministerial Discretion" allows denying permits if integration is doubtful. In the US, CBP "Memos" and "Preconceived Intent" cancel entries. In Mexico, INM uses IT filters (SICOP) to block status changes without legal basis.
GEOPOLITICS: Executive Orders suspend laws in hours. US Section 215(a) pressures other countries. A trade dispute can harden TN or H-1B visas. The wall is bureaucratic and moves with diplomacy.
VISAS: For H-1B, the company's financial viability is reviewed. In Canada's Express Entry, the CRS score changes every two weeks. In Mexico, a typo triggers a "NUT lock" for months.
PARDONS AND ASYLUM: The I-601A Waiver needs medical proof of "Extreme Hardship", not tears. The asylum process lasts 5-10 years. Mass regularizations are myths.
DEPORTATION: The Migratory Record is permanent and global (INTERPOL). "Expedited Removal" expels without a judge. For citizenship, "Good Moral Character" includes social media and debts.
The only defense is deep knowledge.

🚀✨ In a groundbreaking announcement, #Jepsen reveals that systems are *gasp* difficult to test in the most obvious places—cue the #fuzzer blind spots conspiracy 🤔. But don't worry, they've got #Kyl on the case, so sleep easy knowing your #bugs will continue thriving in the shadows 🐛🔍.

So, what naturally follows is that we are routinely blind to everyone else’s needs.
Everyone struggles with something, but they might not saying anything.
If we don’t create the conditions for people to tell us what they need, then we are essentially handing out right handed scissors to a room full of lefties, and we don’t even know it.
Is this our best chance at success?

Was #DeepSeek-R1 release a Sputnik moment for AI?
"for a long time many observers hv questioned e direction of #AI #investment & devt in #USA.. W/o exception, #UStech cos r obsessed w #scale. Citing yet-to-be-proven "scaling laws" .. Some even assert tt "scale is all you need".. The question now is whether e US industry has other, even more dangerous #blindspots. For eg, r the leading US tech cos missing an opportunity to take their models in a more #prohuman direction?"

I hope one of the #LessonsLearned is to implement a “maker-checker” protocol.
For many hierachical, command-and-control, authority-conscious organizations, this can be a common #AntiPattern: the head/executive/leader goes offline to create “content”, and nobody reviews it for #sensemaking, #blindspots, or unintended #messaging.

I used to teach young #drivers to adjust their three #mirrors—the two door mirrors and the inside mirror—so that the combined field of view not only overlaps with each other but also with the eyes' peripheral vision, thus leaving no #blindspots. While this is very useful on the racetrack, it can be lifesaving on the motorway. Adjust the mirrors as follows:
• Park the car on a piece of flat ground.
• Adjust the seat position so as to accommodate a comfortable driving position.
• Adjust the inside mirror so that the rear window is completely within the mirror's view. (I have never driven an openwheeler, so what I am saying applies only to modified roadcars.)
• To adjust the left door mirror horizontally, lean the head left until the temple just touches the raised window. Then, adjust the door mirror so that its right-edge view just overlaps with the inside mirror's left-edge view. This setting ensures that the left-edge of the door mirror overlaps with the left-side peripheral vision of the eyes, while the in driving position. The left corner of the rear of the car will not be in view.
• Now, adjust the left door mirror vertically so that the far horizon of the ground covers the lower 1/3 of the mirror's view.
• Repeat for procedure for the right door mirror, by leaning the same amount to the right side. Note that this procedure is for left-hand-drive cars; reverse the direction when in right-hand-drive cars. But a lot of drivers adjust their door mirrors so that they could see the tail of their car. This is pointless, for the tail corners of one's own car are not threatening to overtake one.
But then, all new cars today come with side cameras and obstacle warning AI systems. So, ....

One of my favorite physician-influencers, #PeterAttia on reforming medicine:
#MartyMakary, a Johns Hopkins physician and NYTimes best selling author, explores how a new generation of doctors is challenging long-held medical practices by asking critical new questions.
He explains the urgent need for reform in medical education and the major barriers standing in the way of innovative medical research. Dr #Makary offers insightful reflections on where medicine has succeeded and where there’s still room to challenge historic practices and embrace new approaches."

@harold Incisive thinking by two women to whom we owe much, 163 years apart! The paper by @trishgreenhalgh et al is of interest way beyond public health, illuminating blindspots & pyschological limitations which constrain our collective response to many new challenges. It’s so well written it’s a joy to read, & to re-read… but also very disconcerting.

@JacquelineJannotta @DavidM_yeg It's a fascinating book, beginning with the anecdote told at the very beginning (a woman commenting on how funny her mother is and how much her mother loves her, and once threw a knife at her).
And self-deception ("blind spots") exists at every level, from cellular to societal.
This book is in a list of books I find myself repeatedly recommending.

The third leading cause of death in the US, just behind heart disease and cancer and above traffic accidents? Prescription medicine, properly prescribed.
Read this passage from the book "Whole: Rethinking the Science of Nutrition," by T. Colin Campbell (author of "The China Study") and Nathan Jacobson:

#TIL: yes of course in Linux you can create a file name that starts with a Unicode BOM (Byte Order Mark). E.g. like this:
$ python3 -c 'open("test".encode("utf-8-sig"), "w")'
Funnily on my Ubuntu 20.04 system I didn't find a way to show the special character with "ls" (neither -b nor -q nor -Q helped). But in my terminal I could copy-paste the names from "ls" output and use them in other commands.
Anyway... nice:
$ ls -Q
"test" "test" -
We *all* live in worlds of our own delusion—every one of us. These narratives were written for us by others: through our genetics, the happenstance of our family of origin, and our experiences.
There’s the world as we see it and there’s the world as it is. These are rarely, if ever, the same thing. The former are the stories we tell ourselves about the world. They are our mirror, reflecting our loves, our fears, our joys, our hates. The latter has nothing to do with us. The world is not about us.
There’s us as we each see ourselves and there’s us as seen by others. These are rarely, if ever, the same thing. The former are stories we tell ourselves: we are the protagonist in a tragedy, a comedy, a romance, a drama, a horror. The latter is the sum of the marks that you’ve made in this world.
The only way we ever truly know ourselves is to share who we are, be understood by others, and receive and let in the gift of their honest unvarnished feedback. When their words find the soft spots beneath our armor and especially, when several people share similar words: they’ve just pierced the bullshit in one of our delusional narratives.
Without this, we are unlikely to ever truly know ourselves. Without this, we are unlikely to ever know lasting peace.

It’s hard to be surprised by the racial, gender, geographic, and many other blind spots within philosophy historically when it is literally a discipline that says things like ‘I can’t see how you can possibly get an ought from an is’, and ignores the billions of people doing it, with great ease, every single day. For a philosopher trained to reject the existence of the very table they are sitting at, or the mind they are using to do the rejecting, it’s just a short logical leap to denying the existence of entire countries, cultures, and peoples. For if it isn’t argued somewhere on my bookshelf, can it really have been argued at all?
