Caddy+Firefox+Firewall Footgun: For about a week I had strange connection timeouts using #Firefox Developer Edition when accessing our dev-servers.
After a long debugging session turns out, it's because QUIC the http3 protocol that Caddy announces needs a 443 **UDP** port open too, which we blocked by the firewall by default.

Finally close to seeing the light at the end of the tunnel with my #towncrier adoption for my projects.

Only four more repo's(out of 20ish) git logs to audit and assemble plausible CHANGELOGs.

Did I _need_ to any of this work? No. No one is ever going to look at this.

Did I learn a few new things, or at least burn into muscle memory commands/workflows that will be useful in the future? Absolutely.

Glad that I put in the effort.

The Blue Screen of Death

An overreliance on technology means that invariably a writer will be left hanging when said technology breaks. I have become so used to the screen that I spent the last several days moping around, unable to work on my latest novel.

My plethora of notebooks is a testament to how I used to write. Why is it so difficult for me to write without technology now? Pencils break, but there is always a pencil sharpener.

And another pencil.

Ink pens run out of ink, but I have plenty more in reserve. Paper never breaks. It can brown or get damaged, but I’ve had these notebooks for a LONG time.

So it is a reminder to me that while technology is a helpful tool, it can also be a handicap.

I put pen to paper.

Lesson learned.

Maybe.

Ich hatte zwar ein Datenexport, aber bei Mastodon ist die followers Liste nicht Bestandteil, welche man als separate Datei hätte exportieren müssen, welches ich leider nicht gemacht habe. 😞

This week, I've started a migration & clean up of my repositories off of GitHub onto...GitLab, Codeberg, et.al. Generally cleaning up/purging/fixing half-baked repos from the last ten years.

K2 🧒 hat diese Woche erste(?) negative(?) Erfahrungen mit #eCommerce 🛒 gemacht.

Produkt kam
a) nicht zu 100% der Abbildung entsprechend
b) kleiner Defekt, den wir selber nicht beheben konnten

Rücksendung überschritt Warenwert (weil Ausland).

Recherchen im Netz nach dem selben oder zumindest ähnlichem Produkt zeigte, dass man bei (sehr) günstigen Preisen darauf achten sollte, wer der Verkäufer ist und wohin im Fall zurückgesendet werden müsste. Ebenso muss auf die Produktbeschreibung achten, insbesondere wenn unterschiedliche Abbildungen präsentiert werden und man keine Wahl für ein Produkt mit einer bestimmten Abbildung hat.

Lessons Learned sind nicht neu. Dennoch glauben viele Projektleiter heute noch, dass die Dokumentation von Erfahrungswissen reicht, um im nächsten Projekt aktiv davon zu profitieren. Pustekuchen.

I asked Claude to fix a failing test. It ran rm -f ./firefly.db ./data/firefly.db and wiped my production database. All transactions gone. One second, one command.

Lesson: AI will confidently do destructive things. Separate your test and prod environments. Always.
