Las cifras del INDH indican que más de un millar y medio de personas han sido heridas por perdigones desde el 18 de octubre. Algunas también han recibido impactos de lacrimógenas –con resultado de ceguera total y graves traumatismos– y de un tipo de proyectil poco conocido en Chile: el “bean bag”, el mismo que fracturó el cráneo de un hombre el 28 de octubre. CIPER indagó las características de esa munición y a sus fabricantes. La investigación arroja que durante las manifestaciones, se han disparado dos modelos de “bean bags”. Aunque de uno de ellos hay registro en el protocolo de Carabineros, del otro no hay rastro. Mientras la institución cataloga al “bean bag” como “no letal”, la evidencia internacional es clara en que sí puede serlo.
