Wild-caught #cephalopods can learn to hunt for crabs using only their prey’s reflection
Initially, the octopuses approached the mirror, then turned around to find their prey. But after about 10 to 12 trials, each animal learned to crawl directly to the crab without the mirror pit stop.

@okohll @abigaildombey.bsky.social Octopus kindly capped the pipe and disconnected my meter for free though is not my retail energy supplier. Then we had an interesting dance working out who owned* the meter to take it away - quite the reverse of shirking responsibility!
*SGN (Southern Gas Networks) owns it, it turns out, and came to take it away. #SGN, #Octopus and #Ecotricity get about 9/10 for their joint handling of the process!

This tiny, blue #octopus is new to science
Nearly 1,800m beneath surface of #Pacific, an ROV was creeping along slope of a #Galápagos seamount when its camera caught a tiny, dark blue octopus perched in sediment — an animal no human had seen before.
Researchers have named species Microeledone galapagensis. Small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, it is also fully grown — a combination that may help it reproduce faster than larger relatives.
