I them made my way to Palermo and met up with Frank and Tom who I hadn’t seen in about 14 years I think. It was such a nice catch up. Then Frank invited me to dinner with his daughter and we had a lovely vegetarian dinner. And after that, another ice cream. This was incredible. I got Sambayon-Santi’s favorite flavor. A beautiful & very full day in Buenos Aires. I went for a Couch to 5k “run” this morning in Puerto Madero like I used to 5-10 years ago. I woke up before the alarm & got going before it got too hot. I passed by the house to have a look at what needs to be done and made plans. I did the Park Run in MaximaPark. Using Week Two podcast of Couch to 5K on repeat so that I could listen to it for 50 mins instead of the usual 30. I am now sitting at the airport getting ready to fly to Buenos Aires where it is over 30C. Ten years on and we can still do it! No longer running on the summer beaches of Uruguay or the pavement of Buenos Aires, but it is great to run together again. Went for another walk around the “oudegracht” in Utrecht and saw these beautiful crocus flowers covered in rain drops. I made this yummy dinner in about 20 mins was Sunday’s photograph. Our son played with a neighbor all afternoon and ended up having dinner there too, so we got to have more of a "grown-up" dinner of mixed quinoa with veggie and prawn curry. Finally went to the library to check out new books for David. We’d successfully returned the old ones earlier this week but couldn’t check out new ones because I did not have the library card with me. I had taken the non essential cards out of my wallet for our trip to Barcelona and forgot to put them back in. This moment when my son wanted to bring the cat to his bed to cuddle was so sweet. The room was pretty dark and the iPhone did a good job of low light photography. Even though I did a couple of loads of laundry on vacation it took three days to get both these baskets empty. There was a lot of bedding to wash as well. But it’s a New Year’s Miracle. Went for a walk around the Oudegracht while D was having Spanish class. I did not want to, & of course I felt better once I was actually going, but ugh. Motivation is hard. We want to keep up with the long walks we did in Barcelona, so we went for a family walk this morning and were happily joined by our friend Myriam. We did a lap through the park while the boys spent time at the playground and then we walked back home together. We broke our fast with a “Rosca de Reyes” and there was a little figurine of a king and also a fava bean inside. David got the king and luckily was already wearing the crown. Walking through the narrow cold streets of old-town Girona in the late morning before our speed train trip back to Barcelona. It was a lovely 24 hours catching up with our friends and the kids had a blast. We are in a village near the Pyrenees in Eastern Spain visiting friends from Buenos Aires. Kristie & I were pregnant together with Joaquin & David. So seven years later the boys meet up once again. Their family has grown & it was lovely to see and meet the rest of the children. The afternoon was spent at the skate park & I was amazed how little fear David had on the scooter. I learned something new today. This plant is what my husband’s family’s name is derived from. It is now Borrazás, but in Catalán it is Borratja. In English it is the plant “Borage” and my mother planted it all over in the back garden in Bolinas at the farm where I grew up. Barcelona reminds me so very much of Buenos Aires in so many ways. There are stark differences of course, but the architecture in the neighborhood we are staying at is so very similar to the older buildings in San Telmo (my old neighborhood) it fills me with nostalgia and a longing.
