Most of our lives are pretty ugly, sordid, miserable and petty. Our existence is a series of conflicts, contradictions, a process of struggle and pain, with fleeting joy and momentary satisfaction. We are bound by so many adjustments, conformities, patterns, and there is never a moment of freedom, never a sense of complete being. There is always frustration because there is always a seeking to fulfil! We have no tranquillity of mind and are always tortured by various demands. To understand all these problems and go beyond them, it is surely necessary to understand the nature of knowledge and the process of the mind.

OK, Advent calendar, I'm sensing a pattern. Another from the same Irish distillery as yesterday: Midleton's Barry Crockett Legacy @ 46% ABV. Vanilla, oak, citrus, and apple on the nose; orange marmalade, cinnamon, and more vanilla on the palate; all of that lingers into the finish, which turns peppery.

Day 13 is Glenfarclas' 25-year-old expression, finished in ex-Oloroso sherry, 43%ABV. This is the oldest of theirs I've tasted—I've had the 21 and the 15 before. Like the others, a big ol' sherry bomb. Right up front on the nose, along with vanilla, citrus, and leather; thick caramel, vanilla, orange peel, oak, and smoke on the palate; with a sweet finish that is oaky. 25 years in a barrel'll do that.

Today‘s feature is the Compact (CC) or Music (MC) Cassette. Tape based like the reel-to-reel (but easier to handle) it was introduced to the market in 1963. Adoption really took off with Philips‘s intro of the tape deck for cars (1968) and Sony‘s Walkman (1979).
Nothing says German 80s childhood like Europa story cassettes. My specimen is a 1977 MC re-release of the 1973 LP Enid Blyton: „Hanni & Nanni gründen einen Club“. And yes, I still prefer my „???“ on MC.
