  1. I always wondered if #systemd can already handle the problem that Canonical tries to solve with #stubble, its "secure-boot friendly device-tree loading EFI stub"[1] (which, in short, makes one installer image work on different ARM devices that need a DTB to boot, like Qualcomm Snapdragon X based notebooks).

Turns out it mostly can, as @pid_eins recently explained on a Fedora mailing list over separate posts in one thread; and it even does so without bundling the kernel with all the various DTBs, which stubble does and won't scale in the long term.

See for example: lists.fedoraproject.org/archiv; to quote:

"sd-stub loads/authenticates them before handing control to the kernel, so that from the kernel's PoV the DTBs
    are just there."

  2. Oh yum. The Fedora Hat from FastBASIC's demo programs.

Interestingly, some casual quacking failed to find any information about the origin of the Fedora Hat 3D plot; what field of science it emerged from, what it originally represented, when it was first rendered, on what hardware. If anyone knows, please share.

  6. Aaand... as part of the 2023 wrap-up, I finally finished getting all the web components of #mailman3 branched and built for @fedora #EPEL 9 with the assistance of #ebranch

This should unblock migrating the mailing lists off our old EL7 hosts

  10. Hi everyone, it's livestream time again 🙂 Let's do last week's theme again and review what happened in the #Fedora project this week.
We will be building the content that ends up on abompard.fedorapeople.org/twif/

  11. Interested in the #Fedora project? Wanna know what happened over the past week? Check out my This Week in Fedora page: abompard.fedorapeople.org/twif/ 🙂

It's still unofficial because the content is generated by a non-Free LLM (and then reviewed by a human), I plan to switch the the most Free LLM I can find (at the momen't, it's AI2's Olmo) once I figure out the financing side of it.

  19. #Fedora is currently discussing a proposal to replace the #kernel console #fbcon with the userspace console #kmscon in its next version, "to provide an enhanced and more secure console.

The long term goal is also to deprecate fbcon/fbdev emulation in the kernel, and this is the first step in this direction.""

In just a little over two weeks (May 16) Fedora 36 will go EOL! Make sure you set aside some time to upgrade to Fedora 37 or Fedora 38 before then!

  22. "You can buy multimedia codecs from Fluendo. This is a legal solution for users from countries where software patents apply."

    docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/q

People can be trying to play videos they legally obtained, on a GNU/Linux OS they legally obtained, on a computer they legally obtained. But if they're in a country that hasn't got rid of the software patent scam yet, they have to pay asshole tax to Fluendo for the privilege of doing so. This is pure graft. Fucking parasites.
