SWMBO is a big #fanfic reader, often of worlds that she only has entry via fanfic, such as via inter-world crossover works, e.g. What If: Thorin Oakenshield and Harry Potter hooked up and Harry got mpregged?
So, recently she's been reading a lot of stuff based on Fox's '911' series. I think what that needs is a tie-in to reveal that in fact #Reno911 (Comedy Central) lives in the same overarching #911 world.
SWMBO does not agree.

In wonderful contrast to canon, madam Jin is happy to leave him wild and free because he uses his genius and social skills for good, in a sometimes terrifying way 🤣 Also, there's a speedrun of 3 romances. This fic is hilarious and made me super happy.

Adachi looked at the package I’d given her, eyes darting. Was she really that surprised by a gift? I thought back and couldn’t remember giving her many presents. There was the boomerang, which was just embarrassing; some chocolates for Valentine’s Day, for which she always had to prod me in advance; and... and...
Maybe it wasn’t weird that she’d been thrown off.
Knowing her, she wanted to know why but was too tongue-tied to ask, so I explained. “Since it’s a new year, I decided to try to be a better girlfriend.”
She turned red. “You’re—you’re the best girlfriend.”
No, I wasn’t. Even I knew that. Girlfriends were gushy and gooey. They fawned over each other. I didn’t do any of that. Adachi at least tried, but she got wrapped up in herself and froze, just like she was now.
“You can open it,” I said. I figured she needed a little push.
“Okay,” she said, and carefully began peeling off the tape I’d used.
“Just tear it off and don’t save the paper.” I imagined her carefully folding it up and putting it in a binder. I didn’t want that.
In response, she carefully tore the paper, trying to do as little damage as possible.
I gave up.
When she was done, she held up the present, her eyes wide. “A onesie?” she asked.
“Yashiro’s #flannels are so soft, I thought you would like one.”
“Do you like sharks?” she asked, looking at it.
“Not especially; OKEA didn’t have rabbits, so I asked Nagafuji if I should buy this one.”
I was an idiot! She was the one who suggested the boomerang. But of course, it had been easier to take her advice than to think about what Adachi would like. See what I mean about not being a good girlfriend? A good girlfriend wouldn’t need to ask.
“Should I wear it?” she asked, still sounding befuddled.
“Of course. That is, if you like it. Do you like it?”
There was only one answer she would give, so no surprise she said yes.
“Then let’s have a sleepover so I can see you in it.” Nagafuji had suggested that, too. Sometimes even idiots can have good ideas.
Adachi melted down on the spot, saying, “Sleepover, Shimamura,” over and over.
I took that as a yes.

Next @wangxian #fanfic rec is "To lurk, to lie in wait" (125k) by trippednfell. It's a modern AU with magic with huli jing wwx who's been looking for others of his kind his whole life. There's a lot of hurt/comfort and touch starvation (at least for his human form), some angst because of distant lwj and his mysterious magic, lots of cuddling in fox form with jc, jl and lsz, and very warm family feels.

Could she reach the door before Toriko did something embarrassing? No! She was in the way, advancing with a gleam in her eye, fingers twitching spasmodically.
Then Sorawo noticed the Centapedia definition: “#Randy is a primarily masculine given name.”
In her best English, she said, “Hewo mi name is Arisu. Pleawed to met yu Randi.”
Toriko broke down laughing.

Let's go back a bit. This was an idea that hit me one evening and it just needed to be written. It would have been far too long to post as a standalone, so I decided to break it up into chapters, as you guys know. My girlfriend, @aperfectsong, helped me with the rest. You can all thank her for a few of the plot ideas in the very beginning. Somehow, 18 chapters happened, and I love the way it came out.
Anyway, this story is finished now! Enjoy your reading.
Expect deep dives into how the BBC and television news programs ran during the late 1950s, period-typical bigotry and sexism, and a good helping of emotional angst. Slow romance is the best kind.

“We are accomplices,” Kasumi replied.
Kozakura considered reminding her adopted daughter not to blurt out the first phrase that came to her. She was better at speaking these days, but she got careless at home.
Kozakura smiled to herself and decided against it. It would be embarrassing for Kasumi to be scolded in front of her friends. Kozakura could only imagine how hard it had been for Kasumi to make friends at school. She wouldn’t make it harder.
Instead, she looked at the other two girls. They looked respectable, but there were school reports about all three of them.
“I hear the three of you like to cause a little mischief,” she said, her face dead serious.
The three of them shook their heads no, looking worried.
“It’s mainly Kasumi-chan’s fault,” Riko said, forgetting her promise to be a better friend to Kasumi.
Kana was about to speak, but Kozakura beat her to it. “That’s too bad because I had a mischievous game I wanted to play. I guess it will be just me and my daughter.”
“Sometimes a little,” Riko admitted. “But we don’t hurt anyone. Not even the bullies.” A statement with just a shred of deception.
“We like games,” Kana added, choosing not to correct Riko. The bullies deserved it. If you’re going to brag about how strong you are, you should be prepared to fight. That was the dragon’s creed.
“Today is #Setsubun,” Kozakura said. “Do you know what we do every year at this time?”
“Throw beans,” Kanna and Riko said while Kasumi pantomimed.
“Right. And in a few minutes, some oni are going to come through that door. I want you to help me throw beans at them.”
The girl’s eyes shone as they nodded yes and received handfuls of blessed beans.
“Here they come!” Kozakura said, glancing at her monitors. “Throw!” she yelled as the front door opened.
“Aww… Oww…. Why are you throwing beans at us?” Sorawo yelled, ducking. “We’re guests!”
Toriko was much more philosophical and ran forward to tickle Kozakura.
Needless to say, Kasumi happily joined in, while her friends looked on, amazed.

Me: Oh I couldn't' possibly post this 4k word fanfic to AO3 because it's only the middle section of three acts and not resolving it wouldn't be fair to the reader ..
Also me: Literally reads a 500 word fic where the protagonist does nothing, but go shopping for groceries and mulls over what to buy another character.
