Kozakura’s Beans
#FanFic #OthersidePicnic (#UraPi) #MissKobayashisDragonMaid (#DragonMaid)
#Wss366 Bean Setsubun #MastoPrompt GuestKozakura looked at the three girls and asked Kasumi, “Are these your friends: Saikawa-chan and Kana-chan?”
“We are accomplices,” Kasumi replied.
Kozakura considered reminding her adopted daughter not to blurt out the first phrase that came to her. She was better at speaking these days, but she got careless at home.
Kozakura smiled to herself and decided against it. It would be embarrassing for Kasumi to be scolded in front of her friends. Kozakura could only imagine how hard it had been for Kasumi to make friends at school. She wouldn’t make it harder.
Instead, she looked at the other two girls. They looked respectable, but there were school reports about all three of them.
“I hear the three of you like to cause a little mischief,” she said, her face dead serious.
The three of them shook their heads no, looking worried.
“It’s mainly Kasumi-chan’s fault,” Riko said, forgetting her promise to be a better friend to Kasumi.
Kana was about to speak, but Kozakura beat her to it. “That’s too bad because I had a mischievous game I wanted to play. I guess it will be just me and my daughter.”
“Sometimes a little,” Riko admitted. “But we don’t hurt anyone. Not even the bullies.” A statement with just a shred of deception.
“We like games,” Kana added, choosing not to correct Riko. The bullies deserved it. If you’re going to brag about how strong you are, you should be prepared to fight. That was the dragon’s creed.
“Today is #Setsubun,” Kozakura said. “Do you know what we do every year at this time?”
“Throw beans,” Kanna and Riko said while Kasumi pantomimed.
“Right. And in a few minutes, some oni are going to come through that door. I want you to help me throw beans at them.”
The girl’s eyes shone as they nodded yes and received handfuls of blessed beans.
“Here they come!” Kozakura said, glancing at her monitors. “Throw!” she yelled as the front door opened.
“Aww… Oww…. Why are you throwing beans at us?” Sorawo yelled, ducking. “We’re guests!”
Toriko was much more philosophical and ran forward to tickle Kozakura.
Needless to say, Kasumi happily joined in, while her friends looked on, amazed.

Unfortunately, I don't think I can manage another crossover between the two. Once is amusing, but it draws the spotlight off Maomao. But it was once immense fun.
Besides my regulars, I have a "#OthersidePicnic" x "#Dragonmaid" X "#SpyXFamily" and a #RegardingSaekiSayaka series in the works. Oh yes a new "#TheApothecaryDiaries" one where Moa must save Jinshi.

Tanabata Bird Case – Part 2
七夕バード事件
#OthersidePicnic X #MissKobayashisDragonMaid #FanFiction
#WSS366 #MastoPrompt 7/7
“It’s moving,” Riko said as the origami bird began fluttering.
“It’s the fan,” Kanna said.
Kanna and Riko’s eyes grew wide as the bird took flight, soaring over the classroom.
“Look, a bird got in,” a boy pointed.
“Listen,” a girl in rumpled clothes said. “It’s singing.”
“How lovely,” a third voice said.
“It’s like a dream. I can see the song,” a girl in the back said. She held a manga tightly in her hands, eyes wide, listening.
“It’s Kozakura-san and Kasumi,” Kanna whispered. “It’s a vision.”
Each of them saw Kasumi with her hair done up with dozens of blue bows. She was eyeing a strawberry-covered cake. Kozakura had a big smile and was cutting an enormous slice of cake.
“Your mom looks happy,” Kanna gently touched Kasumi hair, “and those are lovely ribbons.”
“There are Toriko-san and Sorawo-san,” Kanna said as the two adventurers appeared. The tall blonde Toriko was smiling broadly and held a large stuffed bear. The blue ribbon around its neck matched the one in Kasumi’s hair. A serious Sorawo stood next to Toriko, holding a small wrapped present.
Kanna giggled. It was so like the two women: enthusiastic Toriko and her serious girlfriend.
As quickly as the birthday scene had appeared, it dissolved, replaced by a new one.
This time Riko spoke, “That’s me! Oh… And I’m hugging Kasumi. And there we go—running. I’m pushing her on the swings. We’re having so much fun!”
Riko looked at the real Kasumi. “Is that what you want—to be real friends?” Kasumi nodded harder, smiling.
The vision changed once more.
“Look, that’s me,” Kanna said. “All grown up, still wearing my hair ties.”
“You kissed her on the cheek,” Riko said. “I want that too. If you kiss Kasumi, you have to kiss me.”
With one more burst of vision, the three girls appeared in a swan boat. Then, with a final flutter, the bird slipped out the open window.
“The visions—are they what you wished for?” Kanna asked, and Kasumi nodded, head bobbing wildly.
Kasumi finally spoke in a voice a little like Toriko’s. “I think if you wish hard enough, anything can come true.”

Tanabata Bird Case – Part 1

#WSS366 #MastoPrompt 7/7
“Ohhh…” Riko stared at the little stand of bamboo the teacher had put at the classroom’s #entrance. Each student had hung a Tanabata wish on it the day before.
“So many colors! Look at them dance!” Kanna said, looking at the slips of paper spinning in the breeze made by a fan the teacher had put nearby.
The other two girls were entranced, especially Kasumi, who studied each fluttering wish like it meant something.
“What did you wish for?” Riko asked, turning to Kanna.
“Silly, you’re not supposed to tell your wish,” Kanna replied.
“At least point it out,” Riko said.
Kanna pointed to a neatly #clipped slip of lilac paper.
Riko peered at it. “Ah, I can’t read it.” Then she turned to Kasumi, saying, “Which one is yours?”
Kasumi indicated to a white bird, the only origami on the bamboo.
Only the three girls noticed what happened next. Everyone else’s eyes had been drawn to Kasumi. The fan’s breeze had caught her long hair, and, for a moment, she looked like a witch child flying with her hair streaming behind her.

The #Case of Beach Terrors
#OthersidePicnic X #MissKobayashisDragonMaid #FanFiction
#WSS366 #MastoPrompt 7/4
“Wow, look at the sand.” Riko was pointing at the beach in front of the three friends: Kanna, Riko, and Kasumi. “And look.” She ran forward and picked up a broken sand dollar.
Kanna smiled. Beaches were nothing new to her, but seeing her friend excited pleased her. On the other hand, she was worried about Kasumi, who had stuck a tentative toe in the sand. “Are you okay, Kasumi-san?” she asked.
“It’s fine. Nothing bad is going to happen,” Kanna said. She didn’t know what Kasumi was, but she figured her friend was also from another universe, one where a beach was a danger zone.
Riko had run ahead, so Kasumi didn’t have to be careful of what she said. It was tough cutting and splicing phrases to communicate. So she just pulled a quote from memory: “On a scale of ‘weird dog’ to ‘entity that erases time,’ how dangerous are we talking?”
“Fluffy cute puppy—come on.” She grabbed Kasumi’s hand and led the still hesitant but reassured Kasumi out onto the beach.
Riko, meanwhile, had found a pile of seaweed and was poking through it. Kasumi pointed at her and stitched together a new quote. “It won’t turn into a weird dog and eat her?” It was clumsy, and she could have done better, but Kanna understood.
“No, it’s normal seaweed. Things don’t turn into other things here.”
“Okay, shoot it if it does.”
Kanna bent down and picked up a sand crab from #under a piece of driftwood where it was hiding.
“Kasumi shrieked, trying to hide behind Kanna. ‘No, no, no, it’s turning weird!’”
Kanna glanced over her shoulder, then, making sure Riko wasn’t watching, bit into the crab. “See, if it turns, I’ll eat it.”
“You ate that. Do you have a third stomach?”
Kanna glanced at Riko and said in a low voice so only Kasumi heard, “I’m not from this world either. Let it be our little secret.”
Kasumi nodded. “Accomplices.”

#wss366 #Fair 5/21 The Soft Serve Case Part 2 (Sakura Pink)
“What’ll it be, little ladies?” the FAIR-skinned carney/Fair lady asked.
“Vanilla,” Kanna said.
Kasumi’s face screwed up trying to find words. Then she held up two fingers.
“Two cones?” the FAIR lady asked.
Kanna translated, “She wants a twist.”
Riko smiled, “I want pink, a sakura soft-serve.”
The lady frowned. “We have vanilla, chocolate, and vanilla-chocolate twist.”
“That’s unFAIR. There’s pink shaved ice.”
“FAIR or not, no pink.”
The lady looked around. “Where’s the other girl? Here’s her twist.”
Kasumi reappeared from around the Ferris wheel with a pink soft-serve.
“Pink! Okay, maybe I love you a little,” Riko said.

#wss366 #Lick 5/16 The Soft Serve Case
Kasumi pointed at the cone. Words had failed her again. There just weren’t any phrases that met her current needs. “Good meat,” “I want another beer,” or something similar wouldn’t do.
Kanna was used to Kasumi’s trouble speaking. In fact, it was fun trying to figure out what she meant.
“Were you asking for some?” she asked.
Kasumi shook her head no, while Riko looked irritated. Riko didn’t enjoy this game and resented sharing her time with Kanna.
“That's weird,” Kasumi said. The phrase worked, though she had to suppress the phrase’s end. “I wonder if we can shoot it.”
She was having a hard time today. It was like that when Sorawo and Toriko were traveling. Static filled her head, and new phrases would pop into her mind. When that happened, she had to concentrate on filing the comment away properly. The pair was walking silently through a ruined house, so she didn’t have to worry about that.
“You’re weird,” Riko said.
“Be nice,” Kanna chided, then returned to Kasumi’s question. “It’s soft serve. A special ice cream: soft, sweet, yummy. Do you want a LICK?”
Kasumi nodded.
“Mummm.” The sweetness filled her head, and the cold was delightful. It tingled her tongue.
By clipping “Good meat,” she could say what she felt: “Good.”
“Hey, I want a LICK too,” Riko said, grabbing at the cone.
Splat.
Kasumi suppressed the Sorawo comment that came to mind. People got weird when she called them a perv.
Kanna shrugged and said, “I have money. Let’s all buy one, then we don’t need to share.”
This time, Kasumi had a perfect answer borrowed from Toriko and Kosakura. Mom Kosakura used it every night when she tucked Kasumi into bed. It was a lovely phrase, even if Aunt Sorawo got weird when Aunt Toriko used it.
“I love you.”
