There is precisely one fic on Ao3 in the Mu Qingfang/Tianlang-jun tag, but there's potential there.
It's the romantic and the pragmatist, except that once you scrape past the surface, those roles are reversed. Tianlang-jun is a demon quite capable of ruthlessness past his little joys, the capital r Romanticism is a deliberate choice. Mu Qingfang has cultivated his practicality and no-nonsense demeanor to be able to act effectively on his compassion.

CW: Longer post, rarepair hell? (Charsmo)
So, I was looking through Deviantart, and got indirectly introduced to the idea of shipping Cosmo with Charmy from Sonic X. Basically, under a piece of Seedrian-adjacent fanart, someone brought up that Charmy was a Bee, and Cosmo was a Flower, so the ship fit well for them.
And honestly? As shallow as it might be to ship characters based solely on aesthetics, I really vibe with some pairings that way. I just thought it was cute!
Plus, I'd always assumed that it was just a side pairing for Taiream shippers, rather than its own serious ship.
From what I can recall, they barely interacted, so I was curious to see how their relationship was portrayed in fanfiction.
I looked on AO3 for fanfic of them, and somehow, the tag didn't auto-populate when I typed their names in. I went to the tag search, and there isn't even a non-canonical tag for them.
And I'm like...howwwwww? :blobcatnotlike:

I went to the tag of one of my rarepairs to look at another fic that had a similar premise to mine so I could procrastinate and steal ideas from it get unstuck in my current draft. Only to see that someone had posted a new work for the pairing only THREE HOURS AGO. And said fic includes my favorite character in the franchise as a side character.
Procrastination train.

I was reading a fanfic with one of my rarepairs in it, and had left the tab unattended on my phone. When I came back and reloaded the page, I got a 404 error.
Then I reloaded again. Another 404. At first I thought AO3 might be down, but then an even worse thought came upon me. What if the author deleted their fic? It did seem like they might have abandoned it, having marked it as complete when it ended on a suspenseful moment.
Reloaded the page one more time, hoping that it was just AO3 being down.
The fic was safe and sound, fully loaded.
As I stared at the loaded page, all I could think was that what I had seen before was some terrible omen.
Never downloaded a fic faster in my life.

CW: rarepair hell, rambly, overuse of italics (?)
Gets enamored with a rare pair. Cue hours of searching for fanart and fics once Deviantart inevitably starts returning irrelevant results.
Just occurs to me that in all my searches, I used the first half of the female character's name attached to the male character's name (to be fair that is the correct formatting for the Japanese version of their ship name. Not that it got me anything but some pictures of a mountain in Japan, when I did look for Japanese fanart)
Searches with proper English ship name.
I FOUND A SHIPPING WIKI!
Checks under every tab. Nothing under each one. The only thing that's there are two screenshots, one of them standing next to each other, and another of the guy standing over her grave.
When I scroll to the bottom, I get a popup thingy featuring the most popular ship in the franchise
Internal screaming

💌 HI THERE, WELCOME!! 💌
Welcome to my Aethy account! I'm Daiji and I'm #NewToAethy. 🤸🏾♀️✨💕
I’ve been meaning to make an account for a while now but completely forgot. I guess you can view this account as me being cringe but free. I’m mostly #SFW leaning under this handle, but possible spice might happen. Nothing too heavy though.
I love fluff, romantic scenarios, and pretty much anything that makes me smile. I'm also an absolute sucker for angst and despair related stories. I'm also #Profic, but I don't draw anything hardcore. I'm a softie at the end of the day who likes softer, cheesy stuff. 👉🏾👈🏾🩷
I also have #ADHD and can be forgetful, so I might not reply to stuff because it slipped my mind. Please bear with me. Q u Q👌🏾
Hopefully something I make helps you smile a bit too! 🥰💕

Wondering where the #rarepair lovers are on fannish Mastodon. Don’t get me wrong, I love wangxian (etc) as much as the next person, but if you too get a secret thrill at the thought of two characters who never met in canon discovering joy* with one another, say hi?
* Joy, partnership in crime, dirty horny lust, a fleeting moment of kinship, melancholy togetherness, a lifetime of breaking up and making up… I just love exploring the wealth of possibilities of human interaction, you know! -
Summary of my latest fanfic:
Sarah Connor and her son are on the run from the Machines. Niki Sanders is in hiding, because gifted people like her aren't supposed to be alive anymore. During a fleeting moment of peace, they cross paths.

ok! proper #introduction time!
i'm flo (he/hm) and my main acc is @ghost. this'll be my #fandom acc as i figure out this new instance~
i write #fanfiction at #AO3 (link in profile). mainly #slash #rarepair, currently drowning in #DCU, #HP, #ATLA & #DMBJ fandoms, but also drifting between dozens more.
i contain multitudes smug
i write lots of #DracoMalfoy fics and am hosting #LVDM Week this year, a #Voldemort X Draco event. next year i'm hosting a KuZu (#Zuko X #EarthKing) mega event.
i also write #batman & assorted #batfam #fanfic with even more rarepairs~ i sometimes write #microfiction for fanfics but i'm doing NaNoWriMo right now and i really should not.
occasionally i poke my head back into the #naruto fandom, and i also like #danmei (#TGCF etc) and old faves include #ORV and... i'm gonna stop with the tags now.
i'll continue this in a thread if i think of more 😅
anyway, nice to meet you!
