You can attach images, videos and audio files to your posts on Mastodon. Just click on the paperclip ( 📎 ) icon to add an attachment.
You can add up to four images, each up to 8 megabytes in size.
Video and audio can be any length, but there is a file size limit of 40 megabytes.

Vor einiger Zeit kam ein Fediverse/Mastodon-Tipp bzgl. Sichtbarkeit, ausgelöst durch Fragen von Usern, woran es liegen könnte, dass niemand auf ihre Posts regiert.
In dem Tipp wurde darauf hingewiesen, dass man die eigenen Einstellungen bzgl Sichtbarkeit überprüfen solle. Denn diese könnten die Sichtbarkeit und damit das Gefundenwerden der eigenen Beiträge behindern.#FediTips

Do you wish there was a way to type your favourite emoji without stopping to use the picker?
✅ In Mastodon, you can choose an emoji directly by typing : (colon) and then a keyword or name of the emoji you want.
For example, :sun will bring up all the emoji containing the word "sun". Choose the one you want with the arrow keys, then press enter.

If you want to add extra security to your Mastodon account, you can optionally use "Two-Factor Authentication" (2FA). When you have this feature activated, even if someone else finds out your password they will be unable to log into your account.

I've always meant to post this and it just keeps slipping my mind, because it's such a minor thing. But it is hugely annoying (Hey, #Mastodon folk, something easy to fix!).
If you open someone's profile because you want to see things they've posted, you'll think you're in luck, because it opens on the "Posts" category.
But you're not getting what you think you're getting. If the person is anything like me, they boost a lot more things than they post - and boosts appear in this "Posts" category, too.
What you want is the next category over, "Posts and replies". That will be only things they've posted, either as standalone posts or in response to others' posts.
So for posts, go to "Posts and Replies", not "Posts". And if that makes sense to you, I'm not sure we can be friends anymore 😉

Es ist ein ausführliches Step-by-Tutorial und hilft, wenn Ihr mit all Euren Gefolgten und Followern auf eine andere #Mastodoninstanz umziehen möchtet. Weitere Tutorials werden folgen. Auch wenn #Threads es nun wahrscheinlich leichter machen wird, im #Fediverse zu folgen, hoffe ich, dass noch viele sich von den Metas und Xen dieser Welt trennen können, wenn es hier verständlicher wird.

This looks like a great option for now but I can't help but think that allowing everything in posts to be searchable as an option would be a better approach. That would do away with hashtags altogether.Some Mastodon instances have implemented a custom full text search feature like https://universeodon.com from https://github.com/VyrCossont/mastodon/pull/8 I've been using it lately and makes finding things that much easier.
I'm hoping to see adoption of a way to fulltext search being an instance option, opt-in and opt-out depending on the instance settings implemented by default soon.

Reminder to two different groups of people about FediBlock...
Don't assume that everything you see on the FediBlock tag is actually a good block, or even an accurate depiction of what's going on. Glance over it, make sure the reason is a reason you would go along with it, make sure it's not someone blowing something out of proportion. Most of what is on that tag is pretty bad, but I've seen some irrelevant drama and trolling go down on there.
Conversely, if you show up on FediBlock yourself, DON'T PANIC. I see people all the time crying that they are on FediBlock and no one will ever see their posts again, or that their server is going to be blocked from the entire network, and that is not accurate: most servers are not watching that tag, and those of us that are tend to use some discretion when blocking off of it.
Consider that as some #FediTips on #FediBlockMeta for #FediStaff to consider.

Hey @pixelfed users! 👋
By default, you can only receive DMs from people you follow.
If you want to receive DMs from everyone, you need to switch this option on:
1. Log into Pixelfed
2. Go to Account Settings
3. Go to Privacy
4. Tick the box marked "Receive Direct Messages from anyone"
5. Click on the Submit button at the bottom of the screen(NOTE: Blocked accounts will not be able to send you DMs even if you switch on receiving from anyone.)

For safety reasons, Pixelfed will block DMs from people you don't follow. However, this is just a default option, you can change it if you prefer.
If you use Pixelfed and want to receive DMs from anyone:

Are you having trouble using Mastodon or PixelFed accounts on the official Mastodon app?
- You can use the official app for accounts on any Mastodon or PixelFed server, including servers not on the app's own list. When you're signing in, enter your server name and it will work (even if it's not on the list). Just type the server's name in full, and then your password in the password section.
- You can sign in with multiple accounts at once on the official app by pressing the account icon in the bottom right corner until it says "Add account". You can use the same menu to switch between accounts.
- To sign out of an account in the official app, select the account you want to sign out of, then go to the ⚙️ Settings menu, scroll down to the "Spicy Zone" and select "Sign out".

PixelFed :pixelfed: is one of the types of server that make up the Fediverse :fediverse:
It focuses on photos and images, with an interface that's somewhat similar to Instagram. There's more info on the official site at https://pixelfed.org and their official account is @pixelfed
You can follow PixelFed accounts from Mastodon, you might even be doing so already without realising it, because from within Mastodon they will look like any other account. (For example @connyduck is a PixelFed account)
You can get a PixelFed account yourself by signing up on a PixelFed server. There's a list of servers to join at https://fedidb.org/software/pixelfed, but unfortunately they don't currently tell you anything about how one server differs from another, so you'll have to rely on word of mouth.
There's no official app for PixelFed released yet (though there is one in testing), but you can use PixelFed accounts through Mastodon apps.

As you may have seen, @pixelfed has made changes to its software so that it is now compatible with most Mastodon apps.
This means (if the new feature is working correctly!) you can log into your PixelFed account on a Mastodon app, as long as your PixelFed instance has updated to the latest version of the software. Ask your instance admin if you're not sure.
The Mastodon app compatibility is brand new so it may have bugs. The PixelFed team has asked people to let them know if they have any problems.
Alternatively, there's a dedicated PixelFed app for Android called @PixelDroid which is available from @fdroidorg. There's a guide for installing F-Droid at https://switching.software/replace/google-play
Also, there's an official dedicated PixelFed app on the way for Android and iOS, though it hasn't been released yet.

PixelFed now supports viewing text-only posts, by going to:
Settings > Timelines > Show text-only posts
This lets you see text-only posts in your timeline made by Fediverse accounts you follow through PixelFed.
(Due to its photo-oriented nature, PixelFed hides text-only Fediverse posts by default.)
