  1. CW: FediBlock: Cubsex.lol Alts, with conversation for context. Mods please read the conversation!

Putting up a #FediBlock / #InstanceBlock for some servers after a conversation with the admin of CubSex.pictures, formerly CubSex.lol, about why these pedo servers move around so much. This was in good faith: PLEASE DO NOT HARASS THE ADMIN.

If anyone wants to better understand that, I think the attached conversation we had would be very useful.

According to the admin of that server, if you don't want cub-porn (furry lolicon / shotacon) on your timeline, you should block the following servers...

    CubSex.lol
    map-and-yap.club
    cubfucker.pro

Again, these were given to me by the Admin of the server, with the explicit statement that they are servers for people who draw porn of underaged furry characters. They are anti-contact, and gave these in good faith, so I heavily discourage anyone from harassing them: just block and move on.

  2. #Moderators and #Admin s of #Fediverse, I wanted to know your opinion on something. Please respond to the #poll, #boost this post, and comment your thoughts below.

When you deal with a #report on your server, from someone on your server, do you send a message to the person who made it?

  3. Reminder to two different groups of people about FediBlock...

Don't assume that everything you see on the FediBlock tag is actually a good block, or even an accurate depiction of what's going on. Glance over it, make sure the reason is a reason you would go along with it, make sure it's not someone blowing something out of proportion. Most of what is on that tag is pretty bad, but I've seen some irrelevant drama and trolling go down on there.

Conversely, if you show up on FediBlock yourself, DON'T PANIC. I see people all the time crying that they are on FediBlock and no one will ever see their posts again, or that their server is going to be blocked from the entire network, and that is not accurate: most servers are not watching that tag, and those of us that are tend to use some discretion when blocking off of it.

Consider that as some #FediTips on #FediBlockMeta for #FediStaff to consider.

  4. Reminder that there are currently several issues with the federated #reporting system, including that #Mastodon #instances don't parse #Misskey #reports properly, and that #Akkoma instances aren't getting reports from #Sharkey at all. Developers are working on these, but in the meantime, let's all remember to make sure reports are going through before we assume they're being ignored: there have been multiple cases of instances getting into fights over misunderstandings like this.

Keep your communication lines open: the #Fediverse is a communal project, and it's up to us to make it work!

  5. #Spam #Bot #Raid #alert for #FediStaff / #FediMod and others.

Glancing at the timeline in the middle of the night, I am noticing accounts pop up, send the message...
    "Hello #Mastodon"
...then posting ads with no context, sometimes also using that message to get it on the hashtag.

General users, please report these if you see these #SpamBots, and #Moderation, be on the lookout.

    Edit:
I have not seen them again today, so either this was just a one-off thing where someone made three accounts to do that, or a test of some system, or maybe someone else already got to all of them before I could see them. Either way, I guess this wasn't as much of a thing as it seemed last night, but let's keep an eye out in case this is a new pattern.

  6. CW: Server-Level Block Recommendation: majestic12.airforce

    majestic12.airforce
Hate Speech / Harassment: admin posted crude racist edit of black user's profile picture for calling out racism, mocked the reports about it
This one came to my attention because it's pretty heavily federated with widely blocked instances. Looking over the admin timeline, it's pretty much the kind of stuff you would see on those.

    majestic12.airforce/users/ins0

The name seems familiar, I feel like we've blocked this person from elsewhere. Anyway, the screenshot they posted themselves of a report against their own account from mstdn should be more than enough reason to block the server.

  7. 🧵 - 1 of 3
I'm not a #FediAdmin, just a user, but I'd like input from instance admins and moderators. There are three questions in this 🧵
This is also a bit of an "Am I being the Asshole?" question, or you could call it trying to tune my expectations.

if someone contacts you about a user who is breaching your Code of Conduct, and they are the victim: what do you consider a practical amount of time to investigate and take action?

If other or more to say - pls reply.

  8. Messing around with the #blocklist...

A while back, our admin blocked a bunch of #TwitterRelay servers because we were getting too many duplicate posts. Wondering if there is a better way to handle that, especially since I realize that blocks boosts of posts from relays we have blocked...

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Is there a "Best" relay we should unblock and prefer? Is there a better way to handle the duplicates?

Looking for some #FediTips on #relays!

  9. CW: Update on our suspicious account spreading Putinist propaganda.

Pamela_Butler does in fact seem to be from some sort of Putinist group, having spent several hours tracking down a bunch of Ukranian news posts to post the same image with similar one-sentence messages.

I'd left it limited, to see if it would do anything else, but I went ahead and suspended the account now, so the pile of messages wasn't littering the feed. If anyone wants to see them to look further into this, I can pull them up by switching it from a Suspend to a Freeze.

Email address is a name and number @mail.ru, which is a common Email site for our legit Russian users, so that's not much to go on.

IP range is in Finland, and might just be a common IP range for legit Russian / Nordic users, but looking it up it may be associated with Finnish Nationalists.

Sign up was July 2, and that might be relevant.

Anyone else seeing this pattern on their end?

  10. Anyone else noticed problems with at universeodon.com?

    @wild1145

  11. Looking at a couple accounts which were registered on July 2nd, which have only been used for responding to people talking about Putin's war in #Ukraine with #Putinist #misinformation.

Wondering if anyone else in #Moderation / #FediStaff has noticed something like this.

    Potentially not organic activity?

  12. CW: Federated Moderation / Staff Notice to all Fediverse Staff: potential mass-signup from bad actor

Someone is making accounts on multiple instances, usually with names like...
    - FuckPoon
    - FuckPooners
...with the specific purpose of threatening, harassing, and doxing, mainly targeting transgender / queer users. This is not the first I have heard, nor the only instances I have heard of being hit with this.

    All #Moderation / #Moderators / #FediMods / #Admin / #Admins / #FediAdmin / #Staff / #Fedistaff should be on the lookout for new users with those account names, and should likely ban on sight.

#FediBlock / #FediNuke tag for good measure: keep an eye out for them.

I will update this post if I see more information about who it is.

    ...

For the non-staff bystanders looking at this, I want to point out, this happens on every social network, but the difference is here, you can see staff going on mass alert over it.

CC @rangaku, whose post this is an extension of

  13. Weird bug in #Akkoma and #Mastodon interaction, thought #FediStaff / #Staff, #FediDev, and #FediMod / #Moderation people might want to see this.

Got a #report about a user saying things that were upsetting people, noticed it was from another instance, realized that I had access to the actual account that had sent it. Not sure what this is or why, didn't even realize #ActivityPub supported signed reports (I'd honestly like to get more), but obviously that's a risky thing if they didn't know it was happening and didn't know why.

Does anyone know what this is?
