searching "from:me" brings up my posts, she searching " ⁨# WritersCoffeeClub⁩" (without the space cause i don't wanna clog up the actual tag with this post) brings up other people's posts to the hashtag

But when i combine both queries i get no results even though i KNOW ive posted to this hashtag before.

EDIT: searching from:me works with # anime and # writing, but not the hashtag above

What gives? What can i do about it? Why can't i find my old posts?

Why can't I find posts from my own timeline? Example: I saw a post about a music video on youtube. I've opened it in another tab for later. Some hours later, I wanted to boost the original post but I couldn't find it anymore by entering the band's name into the search field. My server only came up with much older posts.
I had to scroll down my timeline a bit and used my browser's ctrl-F to find the post. That's... bad. 😡

In Mastodon, is it possible to search for posts that do *not* contain a specific hashtag? I don't mean full-text search, but plain old hashtag search only for absence of hashtag instead of presence. 🤔

If you want to search for a reply you made to somebody you can't just search for part of their name/handle. You need to include the @ and the full handle (but you don't need the server part). The handle in the following example is weird by design to make sure I'm not tagging an account that actually exists:

@someHandle123 from:me is:reply

@OlivierGuinart Update: I forgot that there is a search function now that actually works pretty decently.

In the search box, type:
from:<your username> keywords

I was able to find my post from June 2024 that way. Yippee.

The lack of a real search function on Mastodon strikes again. I'd like to post an update today on a Toot I made 6+ months ago, but of course I can't find it. I'll probably have to download my Mastodon archive and dig through it if I really want to find it.

As a creative solution, I have been "indexing" my posts with hashtags that start with Scott, which my pal @OlivierGuinart noticed and playfully poked fun at one day. It's a good but imperfect solution.

It's been 0 Days since the Mastodon search capability has disappointed me.

I've had "Include public posts in search results" turned on for months now, but at least on my instance, it doesn't seem to find anything more than two days old. To verify, I've tried several words that are in toots from 3 to 14 days old, and none of them hit.

#Tootfinder appears to be down at the moment, but only covers ~3 months IIRC.

Search currently seems to be broken on #Mastodon dot online. Hashtags work, but no filters like user or just text.

I'm frustrated to read about #FullTextSearch without finding a way to access it. I see that the search box on mastodon.social looks quite different from mine, so this seems instance-specific? Beyond upgrading to v4.2+, do administrators need to take other steps, & what should users request?

One of the things you can still do on Twitter is to paste a URL into search and get back all the tweets that reference it, which is pretty cool.

I’d like Mastodon to embrace that: make the hrefs in toots part of search scope 🙏

The impression I got is that each account has to opt-in before its posts are indexed for the new full text search. There might be instance-level tools too, where admins can opt-in for all public posts on their instance?

Trying to think of ways that full-text search could be dangerous, even if it’s only opt-in.

If I opted in and then wrote “congrats on your transition” while indexable, somebody could harass the person I was addressing.

Until now I had seen no posts being returned but this morning, I see an explicit note that search for posts is not supported on Hachyderm.
