Mastodon is obscure in regards to the masses using it in droves, (probally a good thing to escape targeted regulations) but don't make the mistake thinking hackers won't target it.
There's a difference between offline obscurity or Bluetooth obscurity by your physical location vs the the wide web.
Hackers likely know that many tech smart Linux/ tech users are flocking to Mastodon. They may believe some of these accounts might be worth something to them if you are a Linux user with privacy controls enabled (or not enabled)
They likely know that hacking knowledgeable users it may be rare but they think they might hit a jackpot.

Dear fellow #Americans,
As you may or may not be aware, we at the National Security Agency are currently engaged in a never-ending cyber war against various malicious #hackers, nation-states, and other #nefarious entities. But don't worry, we've got it all under control.
In the meantime, please make sure to use strong, unique #passwords for all of your online #accounts (because, let's be real, you're the only thing standing between us and total #cyber annihilation). And while you're at it, go ahead and update your #security software too (because nothing says "I love America" like shelling out more money to some #BigTech company).
In conclusion, we've got this whole cyber war thing on lock, so just sit back, relax, and continue living your online lives as if everything is totally normal.
