I would much rather see a 100 line function than ten ten line functions with a stack depth of five. In practice the latter also brings more total lines and some extra layers with them. I know I'm in a minority here, I just cannot understand why.

I think it's interesting to expand the argument beyond #academia, which is what this short opinion piece focuses on. The future will tell if there will be companies where workers are more or less led by #AI. After all, if AI can replace workers, AI can also replace management and C-suite folks.

I got a great leg workout today pulling young Siberian elms from dampened soil due to recent rains. This invasive species is nasty. The roots are typically twice as long as the yo young plant. For juvenile plants, the root is roughly the same length as its height but the trunk is stronger, allowing for tugging them out of the ground. Did I mention that I really despise them?

I switched to #nixos for running my #k3s nodes. No more Ansible scripts to manually push changes. 🎉
I was surprised that I can also do partitioning in nixos. Very convenient to have the exact same hard disk layouts across nodes for the cluster. And still being able to configure slight differences for individual nodes.
And you can even have like a GitOps workflow if you want that.

i did not understand correctly. most of the “losses” are increases in the value of convertible notes (debt that can be converted to equity), and a lot of that debt will be converted to equity when the ipo goes through. if the share price increases after ipo, lenders win big. if it goes below the original fair value for the notes, they’re screwed. that is, unless they are allowed to opt out of conversion and let the notes mature, in which case anthropic owes them a fuckton of money later

I'm asking my own MCP server questions about my own system. "It's smarter than you now!", says Lucy. This is the payoff for spending 5 months thinking about this system. For writing 50,000+ words of descriptive text that an LLM can now trawl in a second. For building local skills that allow it to query my own local index as well as that published knowledge.
I can ask it where to save industry research, and it can answer as if it was me. 😂
