@BetaCuck4Lyfe What is true of a shrimp that not true of a human that makes it ok to kill and eat one but not the other?

It is the position of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics that, in adults, appropriately planned vegetarian and vegan dietary patterns can be nutritionally adequate and can offer long-term health benefits such as improving several health outcomes associated with cardiometabolic diseases.

I didn't always realize this but "A plant based food system is the biggest way to combat climate change and deforestation" is malthusianism transposed onto human supremacy.
What is the difference between "livestock eat the majority of crops and drink a lot of water" and "There are too many humans the most effective solution to climate change is to have less mouths to feed and less energy demand"
For a while I excused this because I saw depopulation as an unavoidable consequence of market shifts, after all I'm not advocating they be killed its the farmers who would see them as an un-recouped investment and would have them killed
But this is just endorsement with extra steps, there is no way to say that water and land usage are a benefit of a plant based diet without it being human supremacist.
Yes I know I'm inviting the overpopulation antivegan argument but I'm at the point where I'm like "our species has made this ethical bed now we need to lie in it and bear the cost of caring for the population of moral patients we've created"
I recognize that with the way the world is atm the farmers will kill the livestock they don't sell. But I act to prefigure the world I want to create not to compromise with the one that already exists.

I appreciate that not everyone can do physically demanding (or otherwise risky) activism and I didn't mean to imply that you were a liberal but I fear that the human-centric approach has a tendancy to attract liberals because it is quite compatible with a reformist attitude - if all you have to do is make different consumer choices then you don't need to endorse more extreme antispeciesist action. But when we bake the perspective of the victim into the message from the start there is no way to twist it or coopt it because the focus is always on the immediate harm and how those systems can be dismantled rather than how those systems profit or disadvantage humans.

I have also helped several people start and settle into veganism and I never shy away from pointing directly at the harm and calling out hypocrisy, self-serving rationalizations, logical fallacies etc. Am I being shitty by being direct? By calling people non-human animal abusers and murderers when those same conversations have led to them becoming committed vegans themselves?1) b.
I believe that you have had more "success" with convincing people to eat a plant based diet for their own sake, but then why would they stop buying honey or "animal-tested" products or supporting non-human racing or zoos/aquariums or just leather and fur products like just off the top of my head a badger hair shaving brush what is the benefit to the individual to avoid these things1) c.
You can't combat a poisoned well by toning down your advocacy that's exactly what the flesh propagandists want they want you to quiet down and stop taking extreme actions that might hurt their profits. "Injustice is never abolished by appealing to the sensibilities of the oppressor" At this moment we need more extremists not more liberal vegans and plant based dieters, the movement will continue to grow with or without you based on outreach strategy you have briefly outlined, but the radical flank of veganism is extremely small and can use all the help it can get.1) d.
Fundamentally veganism is a rights issue the focus should never ever be on how veganism can benefit humans, its ok to talk about it but to center vegan activism entirely around humans is literally de-centering the victim and plays right into speciesist narratives about how humans are the first priority and other animals exist for our benefit, except in this veganified version those animals exist to support the biosphere we live in rather than as a source of materials2)
see 1) d. , by not presenting the abuse of non-human animals in the foreground it gives implicit license to the abuse by implying that veganism is something that is for humans or even for the benefit of the individual framing veganism as an amoral position or a lifestyle choice. In much the same way that you don't get someone to stop physical abuse to humans by trying to convince them that it would be good for their mental health to be less violent. The problem in both human and non-human cases is either outright supremacism or disinterestedly profiting from others suffering while actively ignoring the harm so they can sleep at night#Veganism #Vegan #Speciesism #Veganarchism #Radicalism #Honey #Zoo #Aquarium #Leather #Fur #Supremacism

@mattwebbdev "I'm not going to be shitty to people if they're not vegan" = More concerned with the approval of the oppressors than their victims. What exactly would you consider being shitty: telling someone they should stop killing innocent sentient beings?

If you're fed up with the excuses and rationalizations and misinformation surrounding human's justifications for using LLMs for convenience pleasure or profit then you know a little bit what its like to be vegan and to see everyone you know justify murder for their own taste pleasure convenience and profit.
And maybe you can understand why many of us are fed up with or outright hate most of you.

OK, so lately I've come to realize that even ingredients like glycerin can come from palm oil and/or coconuts. With surfactants on almost any cleaning product being derived from palm oil and/or coconuts (List of possible coconut derivatives: https://bloomingskin.com/christys-blog/f/coconut-oil-and-coconut-derived-ingredients#:~:text=1%2C2,Stearate,-You / List of possible palm oil derivatives: https://obvs-skincare.com/blogs/organic-skincare/palm-oil-undercover-a-guide-to-hidden-ingredients#:~:text=Acetic,stearate,-Obvs ) and the associated issues with them (Coconuts: https://investigations.peta.org/monkeys-abused-coconut-milk/ , https://foodispower.org/our-food-choices/steeped-in-injustice-a-look-at-tea-2/#:~:text=Child,production%2E%5B30%5D%29 / Palm oil: https://www.wwf.org.uk/updates/8-things-know-about-palm-oil#:~:text=4,way ), I've started looking for alternatives to cleaning products and goodness, it's been very difficult, but I found a solution I think!
Olive oil soap! Yes, that is right. It's a soap…made from…wait for it…
…olive oil! (OK and some water and maybe some other stuff added, too.)
Commonly known as castile soap, it is actually totally fine for use as body, hair and even as a laundry detergent to wash by hand or in a washing machine with some slight modification ( https://www.thespruce.com/how-to-make-your-own-laundry-detergent-1387952 )!!! So then you have a minimalist cleaning product that does the job just like the others but with severely less impact on the environment (Basically always.) and could even do a BETTER job in some cases…I should've been supporting this since the beginning, it seems…Do note that some still contain coconut or palm oil derivatives, so check the ingredients still (Of course!). Most times they seem to be vegan (As in no parts of non-human animals or something they produce is used and no testing for the olive oil soaps is taking place.), but again, you should check yourself.
And if someone is doubting the efficacy of olive oil soap for cleaning, here are some sources: https://damascussoap.ca/blogs/skin-hair/olive-soap-skin

With people boycotting palm oil so much, it seems like the best solution (Even if boycotting palm oil weren't the case and it were totally fine, the staggering difference in ingredients makes this the better choice for environmental reasons.). #Vegan #Veganism #Palm #Oil #PalmOil #Soap #Soaps #Clean #Cleaning #Cleanliness #Coconut #Coconuts #CoconutOil #Ethics #Ethical #Buy #Purchase #Boycott #Laundry #Detergent #LaundryDetergent #DeepDive #Olive #OliveOil #Castile #Bar #SoapBar #BarOfSoap #Bars #SoapBars #BarsOfSoap #Ingredient #Ingredients #Surfactant #Surfactants #PigtailedMacaque #PigtailedMacaques #Pigtailed #Macaque #Macaques #Child #Labour #ChildLabour #Work #Job #RightsViolation #RightsViolations #Abuse #Violence:vegan: -

@Brian @Arseni https://understand-veganism.com/ claims that backyard eggs are a defensible utilitarian position - as a utilitarian I disagree: Backyard eggs are wrong because it is theft which causes direct harm. Hens like to brood on unfertilised eggs and also like to eat them raw. Especially since layer hens are bred to lay 30x more eggs than they would in the wild in order to prevent calcium deficiency the best thing to do with their eggs is feed them back to them.
All of this can be understood through a utilitarian lens and rule utilitarianism can cover abstract abuses more typically thought of as deontological like treating someone as a means to an end

Why are slaughterhouses not celebrated? Because slaughterhouses reveal the truth most people would rather not face. Societies celebrate meals, traditions, and profits, but hide the violence required to produce them. If slaughter were morally comfortable, it would not need walls, euphemisms, and distance. Its concealment is part of the argument against it.

🌱📗🐀 i read half of this book that my friend lent me: "expanding the critical animal studies imagination essays in solidarity and total liberation."
this is my review of this book of essays by multiple authors: 8/10
i like how foreword is about intersectional revolutionary veganism, especially in these times of vegan-washing and queer-washing of the zionist nakba.
for the most part, the language is dense and academic. this is a university book. they write »I pursue this scrutiny by holding an anthropological lens to the quotidian components of metropolis life,« instead of »let's look at a day in the city«. that style of writing is hard for me to read.
the essay that confused me the most was "create meat though the world may perish: a vegan critique of in vitro meat and clean milk" by nathan poirier.
nathan argues strongly against cultured meat: »But for "the animal" [...] IVM represents the ultimate oppression: nonexistence.« in the book there are a few other essays critical of natalism and critical of breeding »monsters«, but here nathan is making a natalist argument that echoes a pig farmer saying that if he didn't breed the pigs into existence, then they wouldn't even be alive, and therefore he is liberating them from non-existence.
nathan also presents the argument of »cultured meat as violence« and that it ruins the »good relationships« that hunters have with the »moose, salmon, deer« who they kill. i would be extremely worried if such a person was seeking a »good relationship« with me!
then there is some talking bad about carol adams whose »uncritical support« of cultured meat is »an incompatability with veganism and total liberation.« nathan writes that carol »made [him] feel like it was inappropriate for [him] as a graduate student to question her,« and that she »brushed off critiques of her theory on the sexual politics of meat«.
the cover art on the book is very nice. it has a squirrel leaping up to smash a surveillance camera. there is a machine gun shooting flowers. syringes and lab mice. a fetus orbiting planet earth. it is by ren suchyta-korany.
there is also an essay about why you shouldn't fly. my friend wrote that. she is right: don't fly.
my review score: 10/10 for being intersectional vegan book with cool cover, -1 for natalism, -1 for being pro-hunting: 8/10

Burrito from Restaurant Green Mama´s - Karis, Raseborg, Finland -
Last weeks´ buffet lunch - it´s a lot tastier that you could expect, I have to say.
I thought it could be dry and I´d need some kind of salsa, but no - not dry at all, but simply delicious!
And I love their tea cups! The tea itself is an interesting combination of black (?) tea and herbs.

buffet lunch from Restaurant Green Mama´s - Karis, Raseborg, Finland -
it was very tasty i have to say, i even took rice which i usually don´t do 😂
can´t wait to be able to come there again! 😆
the lunch is 13.50, includes tea and coffee ☕
i have to say i liked it more than a la carte as it´s cheaper and i can choose what i want 😆😋 ❤️it´s the only the only vegan place in the area and they need a lot of support to be able to stay open.
being unemployed with zero income i´m not a lot of help myself, but let´s see, we are many drowning in the shit of struggling nowadays..

..Saturday - i don´t remember the weather so good, warm and sunny at my birthday ever before and on the way to the best seaside in the area - in Hanko we went to Restaurant Green Mama’s in Karis - the only vegan place in the whole area.
Unfortunately they have just wrote that they are about to get closed as well as many other places recently who lost the struggle.
..
very cosy place and beautiful looking food and plates and cups - i love eating from so nice looking dishes, i´d love to come again 😍
..
but unfortunately too expensive for me for the moment.
the dish on the pic was like 17.50 and the springrolls were 6.50.
the herb tea (very nice btw) or coffee are included.
..
half size + half price option with less noodles would be very appreciated, especially since it would be great to be able to try 1-2 other dishes as well 😃
(i´m allergic to gluten so spring rolls are not the option for me as it´s basicly gluten+noodles and i´m not a noodle, rice or fries fan at all😂)
.
.
..
I really wish you to stay afloat as i appreciate every vegan place around here and you are the last one left!! ❤️
I´d absolutely love to come again if i ever can earn anything myself trying to be a fitness trainer 😂😱

CW: Silly personal anecdote, Winter Solstice, paganism, ex-Christian, witchy things, veganism, candy
My #WinterSolstice treat for myself this year is some #vegan #TurkishDelight.
Like many kids raised in conservative Christian communities who read #TheChroniclesOfNarnia by #CSLewis, I was fascinated by the idea of a candy so good that Edmund would sell out his siblings for it. And since I have a penchant for gummies, when I finally tried it, I thought it was fantastic and that Edmund maybe had a point.
The deep irony there is that now, as a #Slavic #pagan, my patron goddess is #Morena, the goddess of winter and death and basically the White Witch. So maybe I was drawn toward #witchcraft earlier than I thought? 😆
Anyway, this is just a little reminder to all the other folks in the northern hemisphere to do something sweet for yourself this Winter Solstice!
Happy Solstice!

It's #aparagus season and this is the f*cking best Sauce Hollandaise that I ever made! 🥹 My pleasure to share the recipe :cc_cc:
The Ultimate Sauce Hollandaise
Ingredients:
50 g margarine
100 g grated vegan cheese "Gouda" style
1/2 Tbs mustard
2 Tbs vegan mayonnaise
3 Tbs pea milk
A pinch of nutmeg
A pinch of Kala Namak saltPut all ingredients into a pot and melt them at low temperature while stirring with a whisk.
I used 'Vemondo' vegan cheese from Lidl. Kala Namak is optional but gives some nice eggy flavor. Mayonnaise adds some subtle sour flavour and emulgating properties. Be careful with the mustard, it's the secret ingredient but don't use too much. Yes I used some processed food here and it's a fat bomb but who cares if the result is awesome 🙂✌️. And oh did I mention it' #vegan :vegan: ? 😉
Enjoy 🤪 and :BoostOK: if you liked it. Also happy to read suggestions/feedback in the replies...

@peter
> Hitler was a vegetarianCommon misconception, often lobbed as vegans;
"Hitler's diet was primarily vegetarian throughout the latter part of his life; however, he didn't adopt a vegetarian diet for moral reasons, but because he suffered from gastric problems."
