What if light-dark() in CSS wasn’t just for colors?
Imagine swapping borders, fonts, or even layouts—automatically, by theme.
I broke down how modern CSS (with @function, if(), and style queries) makes it possible.
Theming just got way more powerful. ⚡

Remember back in 2022/23 how folks were reacting to "Mastodon's poor UX" because it was defederated and you had to choose a server and then who to connect with/follow and that your timeline is other people's boosts so you see what you follow etc.
It just occurred to me, this was not the first time we've had this conversation 😂 - remember mIRC? Trying to convince your MSN Messenger friend to login into mIRC and join a room was exactly the same talk... only the tech jargon was 90s instead of 20s.
PS: mIRC was last updated in April with version 7.81 (don't know who owns it or if it is a safe/good client, just saying...)

Spent way too long trying to place an order online for IHOP, but it kept just not going to the checkout page. Finally called them and he’s like, oh, we are closing early because the power is out. 😅
As a web developer, couldn’t you maybe say the store is closed when I select it, instead of just unknown behavior?!?
I’m sure they spent more on that website than we do on ours. 😝

Ruislip Station, just passing through.
This signal box has actually been a listed building since August 2000, so it is celebrating a quarter century this very month - however the station was built way earlier, in 1904, for the Harrow and Uxbridge Railway.
That was taken over by the Metropolitan Railway less than a year later, and their trains still stop there, along with the Piccadilly line.
Both terminate in Uxbridge.

Why do rounded corners feel so much better in design? It's not just a trend; it's psychology.
Our brains are hardwired to see sharp angles as potential threats, while curves are processed with ease, evoking feelings of safety and calm. This is a core principle of emotional design.
This guide explores the science behind our love for curves and how to use them to create more human-centric, effective designs.

It's hard not to feel rather disillusioned at just how successful Meta is. Nothing seems to put a dent in the obscene amount of profits they make.
One of the scummiest companies which has ever existed, iron-fistedly run by a truly empty shell of a human being…and no matter how often and loudly we shout #BoycottFacebook and all the rest, it seems to have little effect.
Everything I hear about FB & IG is that the UX and the constant slop is simply terrible now. How can people put up with it?!

Imagine a phone that draws its own interface, just for you.
We built a proof-of-concept OS that ditches app silos for a truly generative UI. It's controlled by voice or text and handles links, images, and navigation on the fly.
This opens a fascinating new chapter for human-computer interaction, with both huge possibilities and valid concerns.
Best of all? It's open-source. Come explore the future with us.

The #Volvo #EX30 #EV #car has to have one of the dumbest #UX designs I have ever seen. When pressing buttons it helpfully reduces the music volume. Presumably to play some beep or something I don’t know. INCLUDING WHEN YOU ADJUST VOLUME!
Thus making it really difficult to actually adjust the volume to a suitable level. Sometimes it takes some time to bump the music volume back. WTH?!?
Honestly I sometimes think companies don’t even need to hire UX designers. Just bloody use your own product!

Microinteractions are the tiny things nobody notices…
until they’re missing.

Design System Philosophy:
— UX First: I begin with strategy and information architecture.
— Behavioral Design: Every interaction is thought through user behavior and triggers.
— Motion Thinking: GSAP animations enhance, not distract.
— Consistency: Systemized spacing, reusable components, scalable grid.
— I don’t just design screens — I design the feeling between them.Tags · #Portfolio #WebDesign #Madebyvladonacev #Showreel #Snapshots

🚨 Hot take alert! A blog post just discovered that Google exists and has an influence on design standards! Apparently, it's not just about data hoarding—Google might also be behind the global conspiracy of UI/UX design choices. 🙄 Groundbreaking stuff, really. 😂

Sillonku mnää olinnuari, nii pelattii Kuakea modeemilla. Sitä mikä tuli Doomin (1993) jälkeen seedeerompulla. Action Quake 2 -modi oli just paras. Modeemi oli HTV:n kaapelimodeemi tai 56k puhelinlinjamodeemi. Jälkimmäisellä pingi saattoi olla luokkaa sekunnin, joten muille pelaajille oma pelihahmo loikki eteenpäin sekunnin nykäyksissä (ns. high ping bastard).

@feld @p @silverpill @jeffcliff ok, very interesting to read these thoughts on the degraded state of IPFS and how unfit it currently is for use with fedi (in browser as an add-on and as a server).
it fits with my thesis that foss on m$github is getting slowly compromised, by the shell accounts that the corporate state have on that weaponized platform.... a controlled platform, at best, and a platform that deanonymizes devs, which is a way to control them at the very least.
Id consider going back to 2021 and looking at their codebase then, and comparing it to today, there were some very prominent independent media folk talking about IPFS back then and so i suspect that THAT is when the controlled demolition may have started. My understanding is once the corporates have their sights on a codebase they force the programmers to accept bad tradeoffs. Trade-offs exist everywhere, and permutations of tradeoffs can be chosen ad-infinitum. my learned experience is that foss on mshithub tends to not improve in ways that would allow it to compete with corposhit, especially in the #ux department.
to accelerate :butterfedyC: fediverse centric adaptations, just over a week ago i wrote about having #ipfs on another repo and i now, having read both your comments i think it may need to indeed be a fork. a week ago i suggested the acronym DCN (decentralised content network) a tongue-in-cheek reference/reversal of CDN....
so yeah if anyone wants to run with that idea, u have my blessing
