CC @purr @aeris #brokenbydesign #malcode #RGPD

    If the security model for your public product depends on #USAnian corporations, your security model is broken.

  5. New rule: if a device needs an "app" for some functionality to work, treat that device as not having that functionality at all.

    Here, Logitech mice have lost basic functionality - like some of the buttons, you know, doing anything, or scrolling not working - because of an expired certificate for the app.

    club386.com/logitech-options-m

    At any time, any particular app could stop working due to technological changes, vendor support, OS support, or any of a hundred other reasons, and if functionality depends on that app, you're high-and-dry. In this particular case, Logitech is fixing the app and giving users a way to fix the problem, but you might not be so lucky.

  7. Well, it appears the #internet is broken - again! Who's the culprit? #cloudflare - again! I would say "this will teach them to not centralise big portions of the internet on a few big providers". But unlike the bean counters I learn from past mistakes of others and will not get my hopes up. 😩 #decentralisation #brokenbydesign

    Geht nicht? Geht doch!

  22. Backblaze seemingly does not support files greater than 1 TB

    For nearly a month now, Backblaze has been fixated on a particular file of mine, that happens to be over 1 TB in size. Backblaze seemingly uploads it completely, but then on the next backup it uploads it again, even though it has not changed (in eight years!). Ad infinitum.

    Using their Explainfile tool to dig into the log files, the clue seems to be:

Why fix what we can nostalgically complain about? 📡

  29. NSCopyObject, the griefer that keeps on griefing

    NSCopyObject is a very old Foundation function - pre-dating Mac OS X entirely; from the NeXT era - that was originally basically just memcpy, but now it's complicated. A lot more complicated.

    What NSCopyObject does

    Its implementation currently starts with essentially:

    id NSCopyObject(id object, NSUInteger extraBytes, NSZone *zone) {

    if (nil == object) {

    return nil;

    }

    id copy = object_copy(object, extraBytes);

  33. @eliasp @danluu it is likely that the design of the system makes it so that simply slapping on a second system partition for rollbacks is not enough. In fact it may be already present there.

    The car runs a network of computers running a variety of systems. The display in the photo might be a QNX machine running an Android VM and these two systems need to coordinate their updates.

  35. @new23d It is #BrokenByDesign on purpose because doing proper #E2EE would've upset the "#Tsec #Industry" and would've meant everything would have proper #E2EE like @torproject and that #CA's were truly #decentralized #WebOfTrust architectures like #CACert and not some begging grift of the #GAFAMs like @letsencrypt is today...

  39. Opened a Support ticket with MS on Authenticator issue.

    Made the mistake of noting we changed OUR MFA config to accommodate Authenticator only supporting SHA1/6/30 settings.

    "So we see you have resolved your issues. Is there anything else we can do for you?"

    Trying to see if I can get them to acknowledge that accepting parameters they don't support and spewing codes that will NOT work is a BUG, not a feature.

    It's tough going so far.
