  6. I am going to upset a few people, but as much as I like Raymond Hill (gorhill)'s work on uBlock, I disagree with his views concerning the use of uBlock Origin.

For example, someone is always quick to point out that you shouldn't use Privacy Badger with uBlock. I absolutely disagree.

Does anyone remember Nano Blocker, which acted like a helper to circumvent anti-ad blocking? Privacy Badger may not be designed for this purpose, but for the past 5+ years, it has worked just fine in that capacity.

When everyone tells me, for example, that sometimes YouTube doesn't allow you to block ads or that a paid subscription service doesn't work with uBlock, I laugh, because it works if you add Privacy Badger. While everyone else has been struggling, for over half a decade everything on my end has been sunshine and clear skies.

uBlock Origin Lite is another little annoyance. Raymond Hill doesn't believe you should check all the boxes for all the sources because, supposedly, you'll run into more site breakage. He feels so strongly about this that he added a built-in limit. It's my browser and my experience, and I really should have full control because, honestly, it works better with all the sources enabled.

But Raymond Hill decided to act like Microsoft or Apple and impose his own beliefs on my experience.

"The catch here is this is not what is actually happening — ad blockers are not breaking these websites, it is so-called ad recovery tools that make them look broken."

Even if the adblocker like #uBlockOrigin broke a website, if the user appropriately report it to uBO team, either via Reddit or GitHub, the breakage will be fixed usually up to 3-6 hours, or even less.

  19. That premium-only feature of "Jump Ahead", I feel like this button just appears whenever it feels like. :/

Meh... SponsorBlock does it a lot better. However, I don't use SponsorBlock anymore, as well as all other extensions because it was flagging me as using an adblocker despite 1. having YouTube Premium subscription and 2. having UBlock Origin disabled for this site.

  25. I think we need to talk about this POS: reddit.com/r/pihole/comments/1

I noticed, among of recent #uBlockOrigin subreddit posts is about this POS. What I see, currently uBO team will defeat this POS up to 12-36 hours after reporting, while they stated they're looking for global rule implementation.

This POS are violating and disrespect user #choices, #privacy, & #security.

  30. This would might be more believable if the page:

    1. Hadn't already rendered fine before this was displayed
    2. Pressing "Reader" didn't then display a perfectly serviceable (arguably better) view of the desired content

  34. Filtering out results to Meta's walled gardens in my search results?

Knowing a bit of CSS that turned out to be surprisingly easy :

    startpage.com##.result:has(a[href*="facebook.com"])

I'm all for the open web, and all the results requiring me to create an account I'm really not interested in those.

Do you filter your search results?

Are there smarter ways than creating you own custom filter? (I suppose there is, so please hit me up!)
