Apparently, when #Einstein was trying to reconcile #Newton’s and #Maxwell’s models of the universe, he happened to choose the speed of light as the universal constant, and built his universe from there. Seems kind of arbitrary. Dunno why he picked that. Don’t remember hearing about why he picked light speed over some other property. But then, what else was there, and how would our understanding of reality be different if something other than speed of light were the constant. #showerThoughts

#showerthoughts I assume the #wikipedia article of any person includes nationality and gender in a machine readable format? That means every wikipedia list of persons could automatically generate a pi chart of this data, which might help making biases more obvious.

If you are really into something, you're bound to fall into some nichè. Think of wine, tea, coffee, etc. People start with the stuff they can get in a local supermarket, then drift to specialized shops, and then find themselves on a distant island growing raw materials for the thing they love and passionate about.

Same goes for computer science. And this is why I'm so puzzled having a candidate on an interview who is "passionate" about software, but who is using the most common laptop, OS, programming language, framework, etc. Where's the passion in that?!

Show me your Nix config! Tell me how you compiled a kernel because of an exotic bug in your esoteric hardware! Did you ever burn a GPU trying to overclock it? What was special about your toy language? How big is your pile of abandoned hardware projects?

ANYTHING is better than "I have 25 years of Java experience. Oh, I once wrote a bash script! Yes, yes, am very passionate. Yes." 🤦
