#Graze browser extension for Mastodon has a huge new update after more than a year!
I found it really enhances the in-browser Mastodon experience, and provides seamless convenience for actions across different instances.
Some very nice new features, which can be configured to your liking. Find it in your browsers extension store.

Something I appreciate about #bifl or #buyforlife mentality, is that "shopping" has a certain background anxiety in it which became obvious only after becoming a much calmer person.
There is anxiety motivating one to buy products, anxiety motivating one to not buy in case of regret, anxiety about finding the perfect product, sustainability anxiety etc.
Being less dependent on stuff and buying stuff that lasts means the less I have to go through the grind of shopping again.

Today's page from the #dailystoic reminds me to avoid "gossip" and drama, that which distracts and consumes time and energy.
Instead, I focus on what I truly value.
This takes strong awareness.
MIndfulness and awareness prevent us from being mere puppets and sheep.

People sometimes ask me whether I am doing something for my wife on Valentines day.
I say: well I'm cooking her a nice dinner. Then on Saturday we will go out on a date together when its a bit more convenient.
People think that's really lovely.
Little do they know that my wife never cooks, I cook dinner almost every night, and we go out for a date together almost every Saturday night for the last 8 years since we met.

So YouTube is trying to stop people watching videos with adblockers.
The real question is, does this effect 3rd party clients like #Invidious #newpipe #freetube #vanced etc?
I already pay for YT premium to protect my non-tech-savvy family from ads, even though I personally don't take advantage of the membership and just use a 3rd party client instead because I simply find it better than the obnoxious official YouTube app or site.

Trying to encompass the full extend of what BIFL means to me ("Buy It For Life"):
- Lasts a long time.
- Doesn't go obsolete easily.
- Simple timeless design and aesthetic that wont feel "dated" easily.
- Reliable time-tested construction which doesn't have unforeseen bugs, issues and failures.
- A new version with a few tweaks doesn't come out every year or so to entice me.
- Can be repaired.
- Can buy the same one again in 10+ years time if lost or destroyed. -
Been playing with the new QwQ 32B open weight model. Supposedly it beats OpenAI o1 and Claude Sonnet for complex reasoning for coding and maths, with a freely available model only a tiny fraction of the size.
Anyone can run it, it's good at complex code and math problems but.... I wouldn't trust a Chinese-made AI model on certain informational topics....

Outer Technology is fantastic, but sometimes the Inner Technology can be even greater.
Disturbance arising within us can be transformed into our own personal mindfulness bell, to help us incorporate mindfulness into our daily lives and find freedom from mental disturbance - no app install required.

A coworker told me he would rather have no documentation than bad/wrong/outdated documentation.
Interesting concept.
I think in many ways its better to have no information than half-true/distracting/inflammatory information. This is why I don't consume mass news media.
Media: Keep your paywalls and nags up, they help remind me about the aforementioned.

Last week I biked ~300km in 3 days on gravel and road, starting from home. A cyclone rolled in and we had to take a bus back home (grateful to the driver who let the bikes on) but we did as much of the trail as we planned to.
What an adventure full of serendipity and good times with friends. It really was about the journey not the destination.

Having found myself over-conceptualizing the nondual again lately, I wrote a somewhat lofty post to remind me of the subtle trap in this.
While the post is indeed conceptual, its my favorite kind of concept - the one that helps free me from them 😜.
I'm getting back to focusing on the peace and equanimity of nondualism through the experience and embodiment of it rather than the "idea".

Is there such thing as quality screen-time? I think so. A screen is just a tool when used wisely.
Teaching children about wise use of tech starts with practicing it yourself.

Two months in and I'm loving Mastodon even more. I feel it mimics real life social more than traditional "social media". Chronological feed 👍... so more random chance to see everyday things from interesting people. I shape my own circle. It quickly becomes impossible to read everything so I just let go of completionism. It typically avoids only presenting the "most popular" (aka "most click-baity") which would normally rise to the front page if there was an algo. #youarethealgorithm

Anyone know what/who is good to follow regarding #OpenSourceAI? (other than that hashtag)
Including news, models, and high-quality clients or other related high-quality/notable software news. And hopefully without noise, slop, hype, and drama etc.

"No One Does The Doing"
Ownership/authorship/doership are the illusion. It's imagined and elaborated. Contrived and sprinkled on top.
But doing, participation, struggle, and even the feeling of a "self", are actually there regardless of any owner/author/doer.

What am I made of?
"I" am made of "non-I" things.
And what are "non-I" things made of?
"non-non-I" things...
Feeling into this, we can see that all things are, as Buddhism says, "empty" of any independent existence.

The idea that there is a bunch of matter existing in time, and a "me" existing for a short time within that, is a useful model of the experience going on, so it tends to be by far the most common one and goes silently unquestioned.
At any moment it can be recognized that this is only one such model and that there are infinitely many others.
It is also possible to be without any such model at all. An empty transparent state of mind, completely free and awake.

A friend of mine recently mentioned Occam's Razor and I thought it would make for a good approach to meditative inquiry.
The reality right in front of us is simple and clear, when we shave away all that is unnecessary or added by "us", then rest there.

Recent #meditation thoughts:
What is the difference between "awareness" and "attention"? Is shifting my attention around the same as shifting my awareness around?
When I look closely at the nature of my experience, I notice that there is in fact an awareness of attention. There can be an awareness of where attention is focused. Awareness doesn't shift around.
It is so subtle but the closer I get to the "I thought" and relax into it, the clearer this becomes.

I don't have kids but I really loved listening to this short and wise childrens book...
It is indeed for ages 4 to 104!
I'm reminded that all is temporary. Feelings, experiences, personality, even a solid sense of self all come and go. And yet there is that sense of direct "I" that always stays regardless of all that. Just raw conscious experience itself.

I often write articles that I myself want to re-read frequently.
Today I wrote a collection of short pointers and exercises for those interested in meditation, finding mental peace/clarity and non-dualism.
I intend to keep updating this page in future (and perhaps write a book about it eventually... stay tuned).
I hope it helps you find peace as much as it helps me 🙏

In the spiritual and philosophical world, I've come to find the real answers and solutions are in the silence.
The teachings or "non-silence" are just tools, not answers or solutions.
The tools can help reveal the silence by clarifying the mind, if I use them as tools. Picking up when needed and putting down when done.
Mental silence is not totally nothing either. It's the root of flow and being.
It's the difference between practicing vs just learning.

What is always certain, but totally lacks "thingness"?
Pure observation. Awareness. Consciousness.
That thou art.
Verify for yourself.

When was the last time your mind was satisfied enough by its own activity, that it stopped and came to rest in its natural state of peaceful awareness all by itself?
Perhaps the best way to answer this question is simply to allow it to relax into its natural state here and now, instead of with more activity trying to think or remember the last time.
Then your answer to this question, no matter when it is asked, will always be the same...: Now.
