→ What is Roblox teaching children about capitalism?
https://psyche.co/ideas/what-is-roblox-teaching-children-about-capitalism“Roblox is unprecedented in scale and structure, and through play it habituates children to capitalism by normalising paywalls, status purchases, artificial scarcity, and unequal access under the guise of creative freedom.”

"Congress Wants To Put The Law Behind A Paywall. Again."
https://www.techdirt.com/2026/04/06/congress-wants-to-put-the-law-behind-a-paywall-again/"Every relevant court that has looked at this question — including the Supreme Court — has agreed: no one can own the law. When private standards get incorporated into binding legal requirements, the public has a right to access them freely…So naturally, a bipartisan group of senators has reintroduced a bill to override all of that. Senators Coons, Cornyn, Hirono, and Tillis have brought back the Pro Codes Act, a bill that would grant copyright protection to standards that have been incorporated by reference into law."

Here is my #HotTake on this issue. I have noticed that #SocialNetworks offering #decentralization such as #blueSky through #ATProto and #NOSTR as well as #X #Twitter #Threads and #TruthSocial face greater shifts in #geopolitical #change now more so than ever before. Especially as #AgeVerification and #censorship #PayWalls goes live. Which threatens #centralized #ContentPlatforms through #identity and #coding exploits. Making #ActivityPub essential for modern #communication in #2026 effectively.

9to5 Google: Google Maps ‘limited view’ now hides reviews, images for signed-out users. “Google Maps is more than just a navigation app, as it contains a treasure trove of data about locations across the globe. Ars Technica: Google experiments with locking YouTube Music lyrics behind paywall. “Google continues to turn the screws on free YouTube users, expanding a test that restricts access to song lyrics on YouTube Music. The AI-Powered Web Is Eating Itself https://www.noemamag.com/the-ai-powered-web-is-eating-itself
"AI threatens the business model of digital content creation across the board. As publishers lose traffic, there remains little incentive for them to keep content #free and #accessible. Instead, #paywalls and exclusive licensing are increasingly the norm. This will continue to shrink the freely available corpus of #information upon which both human knowledge and future #AI training depend.
The result will be a degraded and privatized information base. It will leave future AI systems working with a narrower, more fragile foundation of information, making their outputs increasingly dependent on whatever remains openly accessible" -

Get around #paywalls.
For #Firefox and Chrome, get this extension:
https://gitflic.ru/project/magnolia1234/bypass-paywalls-firefox-clean
It was on Mozilla until Mozilla removed it. Been using it for years and it is excellent, works on a heap of sites.
This plus an #adblocker is good.

Calishat: Gift Article Gazette Upgraded. “Over the weekend I moved the aggregation part of GAG to a Google Sheet / Google Apps script where I can filter for duplicates and old articles. I also redid the display and added a bunch of sorting/filtering options. The URL is still https://mastogizmos.com/gag.html and it’s still free to use and free of ads.”

I like it when some posts on #Medium also offer you a link to an address where you can read them if you are not a member. That's a great alternative to archiving them on archive.md, which is not user-friendly these days.

Press Gazette: ChatGPT took Press Gazette content then said that could not have happened. “ChatGPT accessed content from behind Press Gazette’s paywall and then gave a highly misleading explanation of what it had done. It’s a case which underlines the extent to which AI answer engines are flouting copyright and paywalls and also the sheer weirdness of some of the responses they give.”

"The FBI is attempting to unmask the owner behind archive.today, a popular archiving site that is also regularly used to bypass paywalls on the internet and to avoid sending traffic to the original publishers of web content, according to a subpoena posted by the website. The FBI subpoena says it is part of a criminal investigation, though it does not provide any details about what alleged crime is being investigated. Archive.today is also popularly known by several of its mirrors, including archive.is and archive.ph.
The subpoena, which was posted on X by archive.today on October 30, was sent by the FBI to Tucows, a popular Canadian domain registrar. It demands that Tucows give the FBI the “customer or subscriber name, address of service, and billing address” and other information about the “customer behind archive.today.”"
