Sigh.. the ongoing challenge that when I want to share a story I read on https://techmeme.com (also @Techmeme ), I first have to try the various links to find one that is NOT paywalled. 🤦‍♂️😞

I totally get that media sites are struggling to figure out sustainable business models, and that #paywalls seem to be one that is “working” for some sites… but in the long term the paywalling of the previously open Web is not a good thing.

Then I habitually copy and paste every URL into it instead of having to guess which ones are going to block me and which are not.

Morphe is a good app for now for #android to patch the original apps to be free. on iOS, your choices are limited. Spotify is much harder to patch than YouTube Music and risks banning of your acc, so I would go YTM route.

In lieu of that, its frankly easier to just download the music you listen to and keep it physically on your device. For that, Soulseek is truly the best thing. Though, I caution you to avoid the chatrooms, theyre often quite abusive (no moderation). Beyond that, the platform is indispensible for music #piracy.

It doesn't require a VPN, either, as the platform seems pretty much unknown to ISPs (and its kind of hard to easily track to the same extent, and there isnt really an easy way to honeypot on SLSK like with torrents).

For soulseek, you have the official client (SoulseekQT), Nicotine+, and Seeker for android. I recommend Nicotine+ unless you have issues, then fallback to SoulseekQT.
