  1. collectively insist on real REBELLION (reminder: rebellion is NOT ‘revolution’) and start demanding our civilian and military leaders, pundits, celebrities, and other influencers start calling for it openly, forcefully, and constantly.

We must do what South Korea, and a few others once did and rise up and bring this ation to a halt. No, not just our government. That’s already on life support.

We have to shut down PROFITS! We need rotating daily actions like “#nobuy” days designed to …

  2. Something I appreciate about or mentality, is that "shopping" has a certain background anxiety in it which became obvious only after becoming a much calmer person.

There is anxiety motivating one to buy products, anxiety motivating one to not buy in case of regret, anxiety about finding the perfect product, sustainability anxiety etc.

Being less dependent on stuff and buying stuff that lasts means the less I have to go through the grind of shopping again.

  3. Well, saving money is a good reason for #NoBuy practices. But even better -- keeping things out of the landfills! This is a trend we ALL need to see more of! For whatever reason one chooses not to buy, I'm glad to see it catching on!

How the '#NoBuy2025' trend could help you get your budget on track this year

    Ivana Pino, July 21, 2025

Excerpt: "Many of those who take on the challenge start by creating a list of rules for themselves that align with their lifestyles. This could include hard rules such as 'no new clothes whatsoever' or 'no new technology,' as well as rules that limit the frequency of certain purchases, such as 'yes to takeout once per month' or 'yes to one nail appointment every two weeks.'

"Others have posted online about having a 'low buy' year, which means they’re limiting the amount of purchases they’re making, rather than cutting out non-essential spending altogether."

  10. How to Turn an “#EconomicBlackout” Into an All-Out War on #CorporatePower

Friday’s economic boycott is a one-day attack on corporate interests. The #degrowth movement calls for a broader societal shift.

    Jonah Valdez, February 28 2025

Excerpt: "Rooted in the work of American and European political theorists of the 1970s, the 'degrowth' movement criticizes a #capitalist system that seeks unending growth and profit, which has led to #ecological and #environmental ruin such as the impacts of #ClimateChange.

"Instead, it advocates for a system that prioritizes the needs of the #planet and its people, such as #housing, #education, and #healthcare. According to Jason Hickel, a leading advocate of degrowth and author of 'Less is More: How Degrowth Will Save the World,' the movement calls for reducing consumption and production of things that harm the planet such #FossilFuels, #SUVs, #PrivateJets, #mansions, #FastFashion, #IndustrialBeef, #CruiseShips, and the #MilitaryIndustrialComplex.

"While the term may be unfamiliar to many Americans, its core ideas have cropped up in the Green New Deal’s goals of a post-fossil fuel economy; the pandemic-era phenomenon of white-collar workers voluntarily quitting their jobs and working less; and the recent social media trend of '#NoBuy,' which encouraged people to purchase less and #repurpose more.

"'People are getting a sense that they’re ripped off, that they’re being taken advantage of and exploited as consumers,' said Aaron Vansintjan, co-author of 'The Future Is Degrowth: A Guide to a World Beyond Capitalism.' 'It is promising that people are responding to the current moment by showing their distrust of these corporations.'

"The boycott has drawn wide–ranging media coverage, along with the attention of some celebrities. It also caught the attention of #LindaSarsour, a progressive activist best known for organizing the 2017 #WomensMarch after #Trump’s first election.

"'It is an easy risk-free way to invite masses of people to act in reaction to the outrageousness of this Administration,' Sarsour told The Intercept in an email."

"...make sure their containers of blush hit pan"

    "hit pan"

Oooo... I just love learning a new technical term!

Not that I'm likely to actually *live* the meaning in my personal life, but full support to those who will!

  18. In great news for #LateStageCapitalism Walmart warns of a slower 2025. That’s a bad sign for America’s economy - but a great indicator of #Consumers power to hit the #oligarchs and #Billionaires where it hurts. Seriously, consider the #NoBuy or Low-buy movement - it shows great promise. They’ll listen to us if we mobilize and hit their profits. #Boycott cnn.com/2025/02/20/business/wa

  20. @sytharin oh man, I don't have any book recs (yet!) but I plan to post as much #upcycling , #nobuy and #zerowaste content as possible! If you know of any good books, feel free to share!

  22. Maybe it’s my algorithm but over on Threads a lot of people talking about #sustainability taking control of one’s content or data, and changing software platforms to alternatives. Interesting. What with that and more people interested in reducing their #consumption perhaps some are starting to concentrate on stuff that matters. If you have any recs on books, groups, websites, activities related to #MutualAid #nobuy #DIY #Community building #grassroots and #local initiatives pls share.

  23. Is no buy or low buy suddenly trending or just in my feed?

I stopped buying clothes in April 2013 after the Bangladesh Factory collapse.

    Dang! Almost 12 years.

Mistakes were made! I did buy 3 garments in that time. But I did my best.

  24. My work bag has had a couple of holes in it and I've been thinking of asking work for a new one. But decided on fixing it intead. I'm not in a strict #nobuy (and wouldn't be buying this anyway if I got it for work) but I'm for sure influenced by the nobuy mindset I get from when ever I do go for a month from time to time.

Always a great feeling when you first think you need something new but then realise you can actually #mend the old.

  25. @steamdeckhq I can't believe it. 2024 and EA still treats customers like crap.

  26. #BuyNothing #NoBuy #Challenge results:
I kept a list of items that I stopped myself from buying because of the challenge, and there are over 12 things, most of which sound kind of dumb. I'm still interested in only 2 of them. Other than that, I bought 6 items and surprised myself with the justifications I made, like "I have to get something at Kohl's because my Kohl's cash expires January 31" It was still a useful experience and I plan on trying this again in the future.

  27. The first of feb has been a good day. But way too warm to be the first of feb.
My nobuy is over so I actually bought a couple of things but I'm kind of thinking maybe I'll go for another #nobuy in march 🙂

    #whoknows

  28. I hate to admit I bought something during my January #NoBuy #challenge I needed new filters for the dustbuster and I had not bought them before my challenge started in January. I will console myself by remembering that they last a pretty long time and I can't make them myself.

  29. This month I'm taking the #BuyNothing / #NoBuy #Challenge #2024 For the month of January, I will not buy tangible items except consumables like food/toiletries, or it's somehow unavoidable as described by the criteria below.
