Genoël von Lilienstern:
"Neo Neue Musik. Signale aus der post-depressiven Klangzone" (Positionen #144)
https://library.positionen.berlin/secure/Pos144/Lilienstern_144.pdfI didn't read this piece until now but found it quite nice. Playing with the idea of an emerging culture of "Neo-Neue Musik" as a kind of dialectical antithesis to the easy-listening, Spotify-compatible "neo-classical" music.
"Neue Musik", of course, is not a genre but really a scene, defined by particular forms of reflection and performance. It makes sense for this scene to move away from its former alliance with "classical" and it's rituals, towards the non-academic scenes of underground electronic music, and non-commercial, anti-fascist, rave-adjascent festivals. Which is already happening, according to Genoël von Lilienstern.

❗️Nazi structures in Berlin – what can be done?
🔥And get to know iL Berlin🔥❌On 8 December, a trial will begin against two anti-fascists in Berlin.
They are accused of injuring a well-known neo-Nazi. Their own (very serious) injuries, the life-threatening situation and the fact that the neo-Nazi was active in various right-wing extremist groups are not even mentioned.
Among other things, he was involved with the Young Nationalists (JN), III. Weg and in right-wing extremist martial arts training in Berlin.
🔦 We want to talk to you about the upcoming trial and shed light on the background of Nazi structures.
✊ We will also look at the development of the anti-fascist movement and why it is becoming so important again right now.
👉Come with your questions and your own input – we look forward to the discussion!
📍After the event, you will have the opportunity to get to know iL Berlin better through conversations.

ISRAEL'S ENEMIES IN ITS GOVERNMENT
In the footsteps of the old Kremlin's new Hitlers are promoting their positions globally by working on anti-Semitism among the masses. In our article published in July 2021 ("The local and global dipole that crushes the two nations and nourishes anti-Semitism-How it happens and Israel gives such valuable weapons to its most deadly enemies") we wrote: "The unacknowledged claim to the extermination of the Jew as such, which today hides behind the claim to abolish only one state on earth, of the "criminal state of the Jews", it is simply the first international lesson and the first test of cannibalism to which the Russian-Chinese neo-Hitler axis subjects the peoples of the whole earth. At the same time the same Axis and especially its leader, Russia, are doing everything to work from the means and to malign all the diseases of the class that governs this refuge state from which the worst and most tied to the first phases of the existence of almost every nation state is expansionist chauvinism, his megacratic illness. This is the image that the cannibals want Israel to give outwardly. It's the only way for neo-Hitlers to make their future victim look like the monster they describe to the masses." The formation of the new Netanyahu government, the most fascist this country has ever produced, shows how much the rising axis of war and Nazism has worked in this direction.
In this six-party government, Netanyahu and his Likud party appear to be the most moderate force. The far-right leader of the anti-Arab "Odjma Yehudit" Itamar Ben Gvir has been placed in charge of the crucial national security ministry, while other fascist politicians have a place in the government such as the leader of the "Religious-Zionist party" Bezalel Smotric. These guys are already working on further ethnic oppression of Palestinians by the Israeli state and eventually on further exacerbating Israeli-Palestinian relations.
The new administration does not spare inflammatory statements and moves against Israel's Arab minority, it openly promotes the further building and development of Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank and, as an alibi for its actions, it has the violence of the even worse Arab Islamofascism, which dreams of anti-Semitic pogroms and the dissolution of Israel. The culmination and typical example of the excellent cooperation between the two perceived rivals was the anti-Palestinian pogrom in the village of Huara on 26/2 by Israeli settlers, which was triggered by the murder of two Jewish brothers. Instead of condemning the incidents, Minister Smotric argued that the Palestinian village should be "erased from the map". -
Not to be an ingrate, but certain people are doing a really bad job about providing screenshots for the hashtag #CarymaComments
This one is pretty choice though.
Where DO white people get the idea that hurting their feelings is illegal?Maybe there should be Civics classes for white people just letting them know what is and is not actually illegal.
Know what's not illegal?
➡️ Lyrics.
That is a snippet of Fuck the Colonizers.
It's catchy. Your kids are probably singing it when you aren't paying attention.
https://cee-reality.bandcamp.com/album/fuck-the-colonizers➡️ Burning flags.
We should maybe correct a misconception: I did not burn a Canadian flag.I did not burn a Canadian flag because I do not own a Canadian flag and will not buy a Canadian flag, therefore I will not burn the Canadian flag because I ain't spending money on that shit.
However, if I am GIVEN a Canadian flag, you should expect to see it flaming shortly thereafter.
And fuck you for thinking a piece of cloth is worth more than human rights, you fascist piece of shit.

(Hamilton Police actually tried that and failed.)It is absolutely not illegal to throw a dance party outside the motherfucking TPS HQ. Sucks being you. Sucks being them. Sucks being anyone who has to deal with them.
They're racist motherfuckers and they're real mad that they can't run around gaslighting Black people anymore because of the Ontario Human Rights Commission's findings on anti-Black racism in the Toronto Police Service.
Oh yeah: #DeathToCanada

UJZ Kornstraße has operated as an autonomous radical space in Hannover since 1972. One of Germany's longest-running independent youth centers. When the city cut funding in 1978, the community bought the building through a cooperative structure. For five decades, it has anchored anti-nuclear organizing, squatters' movements, and anti-fascist resistance.

"All over the world, rising anti-democrats have been fueled by religious conservatives. This is the case in Russia, Hungary, Poland, and the US; it has been true for the rise of most (although certainly not all) of the fascist and hyper-authoritarian regimes of the last century. And it’s easy enough to understand why religiosity and authoritarianism go hand in hand:"
-
btw if you have troubles identifying yourself as "anti fascist" because you don't want to sound extreme or so, then, well, .... You may be part of the problem of rising fascism.
#climatecrisis and #fascisms multiply each other's killing and repressive effects. It seems rich people and societies have decided to be, or are currently moving to be, mostly ok with it ....
Many probably think they can isolate themselves and live a happy life even if most people around them suffer. -
As the gravity of the Trumpenreich's attempted invasion of LA, the Swine Emperor's birthday boy military parade, and the regime's seemingly vociferous support for Israel's attack on Iran dominate the American discourse, I'd like to take a look at a story about the regime's attempts to deport anti-genocide activists and scholars, that got lost in the shuffle of larger spectacles in our news cycle. While this June 7th Intercept article by Jonah Valdez is centered around government attorney actions in one lawsuit, I think the behavior on display here actually says quite a lot about the regime's intention to discourage, criminalize, and punish anti-genocide speech or ideological opposition to Trump's pro-Israel policies going forward.

ICE Won’t Rule Out Retaliating Against Immigrants Who Testify in Free Speech Case
"As attorneys for the scholars prepared to file a motion to protect their witnesses — many of whom are in the country under green cards or visas — from being detained or deported for testifying during trial, government attorneys refused to agree to such safeguards, according to recent legal filings in the case.
In their refusal, government attorneys said that their clients, which include the Department of Homeland Security as well as Immigration and Customs Enforcement, “did not want to be bound by an agreement preventing them from taking action against individuals whose identities they did not know yet,” the filings said.
When the scholars’ attorneys clarified that the motion would only protect witnesses from being targeted for participating in the case, attorneys for DHS and ICE doubled down in their opposition to the protection and challenged them to instead have the judge decide whether to grant the order."
The backdrop here is that the American Association of University Professors filed a lawsuit against the government for its clearly-illegal targeting of anti-genocide student protestors and scholars, shortly after the regime kidnapped and attempted to deport Mahmoud Khalil (among others), a legal permanent resident, for exercising his constitutionally-protected free speech rights during anti-genocide protests at Columbia University. Naturally, because some of the people who would testify in a case like that are going to be pro-Palestine students and scholars who're the intended targets of Trump's fascist ideological policing, lawyers sought assurances that their clients wouldn't be targeted by ICE or the State Department, either for, or during their testimony. This should be a mere formality in a case centered around civil rights and the limits of state enforcement power like this, after all.
Of course, and perhaps to the surprise of no one, DHS and ICE lawyers refused to provide those assurances. What's more, they declined a second time even after the plaintiff's attorneys made it clear the immunity they were seeking was related entirely to the act of testifying against the government in a legal setting. This then ultimately lead to the motion this story is primarily about.
“Noncitizen witnesses contacted by counsel have expressed concern that, if they testify at trial or are otherwise identified in connection with this case, Defendants will retaliate against them by arresting, detaining, or deporting them, denying them reentry into the United States, revoking their visas, adjusting their legal permanent resident status, or denying their pending or future naturalization applications,” the motion read.
Look, I don't want to suggest that this isn't bog standard Trumpenreich petty vindictiveness and racism, because the government's behavior here certainly is those things. But this lawsuit challenges not only the government's kidnapping and attempted deportation of foreign scholars and student protestors who speak out against a US-backed genocide being conducted by Israel in Gaza, but also the rapidly-expanding immigrant surveillance panopticon the regime is still constructing; even as cases against all this fascist ideological policing continue to successfully make their way through the courts. The regime has a lot of its militarized police state plans hinging on this case, and cases like it, so they're comfortable with openly intimidating witnesses with the threat of federal reprisal; and they don't seem to care if anyone, including judges, knows it.
Analysis isn't prophecy, but if I were a gambling woman I'd bet that the regime has plans to expand its protestor kidnapping program no matter what the outcome of the case against Khalil (and others) turns out to be.

For those who have just discovered the increasingly visible white nationalist movement in the U.S.,
#Richard #Spencer is one name that generally rises to the fore, thanks to the glut of press attention he received around Trump’s presidential candidacy.
Spencer, who splits his time between Montana and Virginia,
runs a “think tank” called the "National Policy Institute" ( #NPI ),
as well as the primary white nationalist periodical, "Radix Journal."The Virginia-based NPI, founded in 2005, claims to be an
“independent organization dedicated to the heritage, identity, and future of people of European descent in the United States, and around the world.”Spencer has used NPI to push both rank #antiSemitism and dreams of #monoracial #statehood in America,
stating that the creation of a whites-only state is his “grand goal.”
He’s said that such a state will be crafted through
“peaceful” ethnic cleansing, although he has admitted that such “peaceful” ethnic cleansing could involve bloodshed. As a 2016 New York Times article described, Spencer spent a celebratory post-election rally in Washington
“rail[ing] against Jews” and declaring that
the U.S. “belonged to white people,
whom he called the ‘children of the sun.’”At the same event, Spencer led supporters
—many of whom responded to Spencer with Nazi salutes
—in denouncing the “#Lügenpresse,”
a Nazi-era descriptor for the media,
before leading his followers in chants of “Hail, Trump!”Spencer’s preferred policies also echo the Kremlin directly.
To wit, he has lifted language from Moscow in describing Ukraine’s 2014 EuroMaidan revolution
—which he has claimed was financed by liberal American philanthropist George Soros
—as a “coup,” and has called to break up NATO.Spencer has also noted that he “admire[s]” Putin,
and has described Russia as the “sole white power in the world.”Spencer has additionally begun writing for Dugin’s website,
including a recent article describing the“purpose and meaning of the Alt-Right movement.”
Further, in 2014, Spencer attempted to organize a white nationalist conference in Budapest
featuring a number of European white nationalists and neo-fascists,
including members of Hungary’s #Jobbik party
—a party that supplied putative
“election observers” to the 2014 Crimean
“referendum” on joining Russia.(The referendum, as mentioned above, was recognized by only a handful of autocracies and Russian client-states.)
Spencer invited none other than Dugin to speak at the conference,
but Western sanctions prevented Dugin from entering the country.Spencer is also married to #Nina #Kouprianova, who was born in the Soviet Union and educated in Canada.
(The two are currently separated.)Kouprianova, who writes under the nom de plume Nina #Byzantina
—and is occasionally identified as Nina Spencer
—has not only spent the past few years defending regressive Kremlin policies on her popular social media accounts,
but has additionally translated Dugin’s work into English.Indeed, the only books Kouprianova lists among those she’s translated are those by Dugin.
While she says that she has never met Dugin, Kouprianova has called him a
“well-educated scholar” unfairly maligned by the “Western media.”Kouprianova has been outspoken in defense of the Kremlin’s anti-liberal policies,
as well as her husband’s neo-fascist ideas, and has defended Moscow’s militarized policies in both Chechnya and eastern Ukraine,
the latter of which she has consistently referred to as a “liberation war.”(3/N)

HAPPY ERIC CANTONA DAY!
Today marks the 30th anniversary of the Manchester United vs. Crystal Palace match during which Man Utd. star Eric Cantona responded to a sieg heiling National Front/British National party supporter Matthew Simmons' racial abuse with a flying kick!
Asked about the incident two decades later, Cantona said “I didn’t punch him strong enough. I should have punched him harder.”
Still a dedicated humanitarian and anti-racist, Cantona has personally housed and feed a refugee family in his own home for two years.
To celebrate this momentous anniversary, we have printed a limited run of this image as stickers and we'll send you a pack of 30 in exchange for a donation to The International Anti-Fascist Defence Fund! DM us for details!

Most Canadians that aren't hard right are pretty much like US liberals - not out to oppress people but often turn a blind eye to oppression or find justifications for it (Canadian history regarding indigenous people being the most glaring example, but anti-immigrant sentiment is also always present). And not believing fascism can happen there.
The only thing that may save them from Poilievre is anti-US sentiment. Having a vile fascist common enemy helps unify people.

"The exiled American historian Mark Bray discusses the profound changes occurring in U.S. domestic politics and recent events in Minneapolis.
Mark Bray (New York, 1982) is an American historian, writer, and activist who specializes in social movements. A History professor at Rutgers University (New Jersey), previously at Dartmouth College, Bray has established himself as one of the most influential voices in the West in the international debate on contemporary anti-fascism, thanks to his prestigious work *Antifa: The Anti-Fascist Handbook* (2017), which catapulted him to fame and simultaneously placed him in the crosshairs of fascism in the U.S.
He has written other works such as *Translating Anarchy: The Anarchism of Occupy Wall Street* and *The Anarchist Inquisition: Assassins, Activists and Martyrs in Spain and France (1891–1909)*, which was recently published. His work combines historical research and intellectual commitment with critical thinking about resistance strategies against fascism and authoritarianism. His academic trajectory and participation in movements like Occupy Wall Street have made Bray a figure as respected as he is controversial within American public debate."

"Author of anti-fascism book harassed by right-wing activists for his work
MICHEL MARTIN, HOST:
Following Charlie Kirk's assassination, President Trump signed an executive order. It designated antifa as a domestic terrorist organization, although it's not an actual organization.
MARK BRAY: When Charlie Kirk was killed, there was a concerted effort by Trump and his allies to take advantage of that for their own purposes.
MARTIN: Mark Bray is an historian who teaches at Rutgers University. Back in 2017, he published a book titled "Antifa: The Anti-Fascist Handbook." It's meant to educate people about anti-fascism movements, past and present.
BRAY: I come at this as a researcher but, of course, also as someone who opposes fascism. I consider myself an anti-fascist, but I have never been part of an antifa group. I am not now. I do not intend to be.
MARTIN: Over the last few weeks, Bray became a target of a stepped-up right-wing harassment campaign. Previously, Turning Point USA, the organization founded by Kirk, had added him to their professor watchlist, a project begun in 2016 to name and create dossiers on educators the group perceived as left wing.
BRAY: A number of far-right provocateurs started calling me a domestic terrorist professor online."

"Anti-Fascism Scholar Flees U.S. Fearing for His Family’s Safety Amid Trump’s 'Antifa' Fear Mongering
We speak with Rutgers University professor Mark Bray, who fled from the U.S. to Spain with his family after receiving death threats over his scholarship. He is the author of the 2017 book Antifa: The Anti-Fascist Handbook, which explores the history and tactics of anti-fascist movements in Europe, the United States and beyond. Turning Point USA, the conservative campus group founded by Charlie Kirk, had called for Bray’s firing and branded him 'Dr. Antifa.' This comes as the Trump administration has dramatically escalated its war on dissent following Kirk’s assassination, using his death as pretext to launch an assault on activists, organizations and speech it disagrees with.
'What we’re seeing today in the U.S. is increasingly fascist. MAGA, I believe — and I study fascism, I don’t say this lightly — is a fascist movement,' says Bray, referring to Trump’s political movement.
President Trump signed an executive order designating antifa as a terrorist organization, but Bray stresses there is no such organization; anti-fascism is a loose political movement or ideology akin to feminism, but Trump is using the label to 'demonize resistance' to his policies."

"Rutgers professor who wrote about anti-fascism made it to Spain despite efforts to detain him
Mark Bray, who has written extensively about anti-fascism, fled the United States on Thursday, becoming one of the first known political exiles of the Trump administration.
'I might be the first — though maybe not the only — because things keep getting worse in the U.S,' Bray said in an interview conducted in Spanish with SER podcast on Saturday.
Though the family made it past security, when they arrived at the gate, they were told their tickets had mysteriously disappeared.
'The next day, when I finally managed to leave the country, federal agents questioned me in front of my children,' Bray said in the same interview. 'It was very hard for them, and I was afraid, but now I’m here.'
Bray and his wife, Rutgers professor Yesenia Barragan, hadn’t planned on a semester abroad and teaching their courses remotely, but that is where they find themselves in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s murder and federal and local responses to it.
On a federal level, the Trump administration signed an executive order in late September designating antifa as a domestic terrorist organization and ordering government agencies to 'investigate, disrupt, and dismantle any and all illegal operations' conducted by the group.
According to the Congressional Research Service, which is made up of nonpartisan shared staff to congressional committees and members of Congress, 'some members are willing to commit crimes, some violent, to promote their beliefs, although much antifa activity involves nonviolent protest such as hanging posters, delivering speeches, and marching.
As a core purpose, antifa groups track and react to the activities of individuals or groups they see as advocating fascist views, such as neo-Nazis, racist skinheads, white supremacists, and white nationalists.'
The report said the FBI declined to designate antifa a domestic terrorist organization at that time saying, “doing so may infringe on First Amendment-protected free speech — belonging to an ideological group in and of itself is not a crime in the United States."
-
"I don’t know what happened. But it felt like more than a coincidence that—the one time this happened—my family was fleeing the country while some of the key far-right figures who had been harassing me were at the White House meeting with Donald Trump.
The next day, we managed to leave—but not before being searched and interrogated by federal officers, despite facing no charges whatsoever.
I’m not suspected of any crimes. I’m just a professor."

"US anti-fascism expert blocked from flying to Spain at airport
Rutgers University professor who published book on antifa was informed at boarding gate that his trip was cancelled
(. . .)
A Rutgers University professor who taught a course on anti-fascism was blocked from leaving the US for Spain on Wednesday night, according to media reports, hours after Donald Trump hosted a White House roundtable highlighting the impact of antifa – or 'anti-fascist' – far-left activists.
Mark Bray, an historian who published the 2017 book *Antifa: The Anti-Fascist Handbook*, and has taught courses on anti-fascism at the New Jersey university, was attempting to board a plane at Newark airport bound for Europe when he was informed at the boarding gate that the reservations for him and his family had been cancelled.
The professor, nicknamed 'Dr Antifa' by a group of students, had said he was moving to Europe after receiving death threats. Turning Point USA activists have claimed he is a 'financier' for the leftwing movement.
'‘Someone’ cancelled my family’s flight out of the country at the last second,' Bray posted on Bluesky social media. 'We got our boarding passes. We checked our bags. Went through security. Then at our gate our reservation ‘disappeared.’'
A petition calling for his removal from the university had been launched in the weeks following the assassination of the Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk and Bray’s home address was revealed on social media.
One threat included a vow to kill him in front of his students, according to the Washington Post. The threats led to Bray’s decision to relocate to Spain with his wife and two children and to continue to teach his students remotely."

"Rutgers professor moving to Europe after threats over antifa accusations
Mark Bray says threats intensified after a Turning Point USA petition accused him of promoting political violence
A Rutgers University professor is temporarily relocating to Europe as he grapples with threats that intensified after a student group affiliated with the organization founded by murdered conservative activist Charlie Kirk accused him of being 'a prominent leader of the antifa movement on campus'.
Rutgers’ Turning Point USA chapter also says the presence of Mark Bray – whose work has closely examined antifascist movements – threatens them and is calling for his firing from the New Jersey university, prompting the academic to say those demands are little more than 'manufactured outrage'.
'I am not now, nor have I ever been, part of any kind of antifascist or anti-racist organization – I just haven’t. I’m a professor,' Bray said on Monday about the circumstances. Noting that antifa is a decentralized movement, he added: 'I’m a professor of the history of the left.'
A Change.org petition calling for the termination of Bray’s employment at Rutgers came Thursday, several weeks after Kirk – the founder of Turning Point USA – was shot to death by a sniper on 10 September.
(. . .)
“This is the kind of rhetoric that resulted in Charlie Kirk being assassinated,” the students seeking Bray’s ouster claimed in their Change.org petition.
(. . .)
Referred to by the petition as Dr Antifa, Bray has written several books, including Antifa: the Anti-Fascist Handbook. The book came out just as white supremacists and counter-protesters collided at the Unite the Right gathering in Charlottesville, Virginia.
(. . .)
Bray received threats when his work first rose to national prominence – but those had subsided in recent years, he said.
Threats resumed after Trump’s antifa executive order, the Change.org petition and a 25 September X post from far-right commentator Jack Posobiec calling him a “domestic terrorist professor”, according to Bray.
He initially responded by moving his classes online, he said. Then, after the Fox News story on the petition, he received a threatening email containing his home address. That prompted him to plan to move abroad for a while as he continued teaching three Rutgers courses, including one on terrorism and another on antifascism."

after many complaints following this toot from my server-community, I've been asked to subsist from commenting on politics, so I'm not looking to migrate somewhere else. I mostly post about lisp and hacking, but I'm also a long time grassroots BDS activist, communist and dedicated anti-colonial, anti-imperialist, anti-fascist (also: pro-Queer, pro-Black, pro-Indigenous, feminist). I'm also #actuallyautistic and adhd, like everyone else on mastodon lololol. and I believe in emancipation through worker militancy, and think that will be essential for many of us to not become collateral amidst climate crisis, and to defend all the most vulnerable people.
but I'm really on fedi to talk about scheme hacking! politics honestly occupies maybe 5 percent of my quotes, recent events are just very personal for me, having lots of loved ones in Palestine. but I have political committees I'm on where I get all the politics I want to deal with tbh. I will comment on matters near and dear when they arise, like the Palestine movement and opposition to the subjugation of black and trans people around the world. and anything that stinks of colonialism. haha, no but really, i just about compilers and lisp, ask anyone! hahahaha I'm not even kidding, as unconvincing as I may be
boost and reskeet, help me find a new server! #fedi #fediverse #marxism #feminism #fp #bds #fediserver #server #scheme #fp

It began with attacks on fascists on the fringes of the National Socialist memorial day ‘Day of Honour’ in February 2023 in Budapest.
As a result, Hungary and Germany launched an international manhunt, in the course of which Maja was arrested in Berlin in early December 2023.
Maja was held in pre-trial detention at Dresden Prison for six months until the night of 27 June 2024, when she was dragged from her cell by masked units, illegally flown to Austria by helicopter and handed over to Hungary.

and Berlin solidarity structuresCome one, come all, mobilise your friends and comrades!
Maja, a queer person and anti-fascist, was illegally extradited to Hungary a year ago and has been held in inhumane solitary confinement ever since.

We must act now!
Every day of hunger strikes endangers Maja's health. That is why we are inviting everyone to discuss how we can specifically support Maja's hunger strike in Berlin.
We will start with an update from a member of the solidarity committee for Maja's hunger strike. After that, we look forward to an open exchange with all of you.
Come along, get involved, take action!
Bring Maja back to Germany! Freedom for all Antifas!
