  1. In train news: I'm a little sad that Alto (Eastern Canada's High Speed Rail project) will not use La Gare du Palais as its station in Quebec city, stating it's too far east. Which is a shame as it's a lovely station.

  2. Aha! It's here!

It's a RGB Universal adapter from @MuseumJoe jcm-1.com/product/universal-vi - I bought one two years ago for my Tandy CM-5 but sold it around the same time I sold that monitor (which was a mistake, should have kept both).

I'll be able to test that new-to-me CGA monitor soon. I did also buy a DB15 cable extension because space is a little cramped if I connect the adapter directly behind my Apple IIe.

  3. Merry festive avocado and bagel pajamas to everyone who celebrates by wearing such questionable attire.

  4. Grinder mod didn't go well - after cleaning it then replacing the outer burr, I decided to check if this initial change worked. Switched it on, nothing happened (heart sank a bit). I then noticed a small PCB that didn't look right - the connector to the motor moved a bit too much. I initially thought cracked solder joints (easy fix: reflow solder) but it was lifted pads. Soldered two short thick wires to nearby vias and it worked.

    Mod postponed to another day.

  5. 25 years separate these two modem cards, the bigger one able to spit out 300 baud while its younger relative roared at 57,600 (sometimes). Both screamed while doing their thing and both are united in obsolescence.

The age of the modem on home computers was glorious if frustrating at times. I miss it, the Internet got worse fast even as speed increased.

  6. @blakespot I have a TTL RGB card in the IIe - Taxan Video-7 80 column/64k card (model 410-64) . It's very similar to but not identical to the Apple-branded RGB Video-7 80 column card that was released in 1984 which also uses the aux slot. Both of these cards' connector are very close to the Apple III RGB connector, so are able to use a
JCM Universal Apple RGB Adapter by @MuseumJoe to connect to a CGA monitor (see the link for details about the adapter). Bought it before I found the CM-5 and I've been happy about how well it works.

  7. I do buy a few things off of eBay, but mainly I just window shop. Today I just saw the exact model of my last AT case, a mid-tower which at the time housed a late socket 3 board with a Cyrix 5x86-100 overclocked at 120MHz.

Not buying it, but simply seeing brought back fond memories of LAN parties and mid to late 90s games.
