https://everybytecounts.org OS #benchmarks updated for 2023.11 with #Spectrwm and #LXQt on Alpine #Linux, and LeftWM on NixOS becoming 1year old. They were not removed since they will be updated in the next #OS release next month. It would be great if the #Rustlang based #LeftWM was added to #AlpineLinux, but not had luck with requests. #Q4OS 5.4 23.11 was removed. If there's interest for 5.6 to be tested, a new issue can be submitted https://github.com/crftbt/EveryByteCounts.org/issues. Does Q4OS not have a public #code #repo?

A new #cat #video on #PureOS 10.3 with the #GnomeDesktopEnvironment https://youtu.be/AUv2gRbixUo developed by Purism has been #performance #benchmarked on https://everybytecounts.org. While it performs better than #Zorin with #Gnome, it does not perform as well as #AlpineLinux with #GnomeDesktop. PureOS 10.3 was released in June #2023 and bundled with Gnome Desktop Environment from #2021, #Mutter from 2021, and #GDM from #2020, which is not recommended.

A new video on #PostMarketOS #Console #performance #benchmarked for the #OperatingSystem #TierList https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GqHb7XCWVE. Being based on #AlpineLinux is a huge benefit for performance and performs much better than #NixOS.

I have an HP #EliteDesk 705 G3 (4core 3.1-3.8GHz 28nm AMD A12-9800E GB: 656s 1512m) with 16GB RAM. I've been trying to find a smaller, lighter, more power efficient replacement. I was looking at the #Radxa Zero 2 Pro (6core Armv8 1.8-2.2GHz 12nm GB: 375s 1133m) 4GB RAM. Then I remembered I have a Pixel 3a (GB: 367s 1221m) 4GB RAM, and I just got a $99 OnePlus 6T (GB: 524s 1747m) 8GB RAM. So it's hard to justify the #RadxaZero2Pro #SBC just for #AlpineLinux. What would you do in this situation?

update on the multi SBC compute cluster ✨
got it most of the way done, the networking and rack mounting is complete, just need to figure out a proper power supply solution 😊
its so cool :))

Time for a new #SideProject ✨
imma be building a #homelab setup, basically a bunch of small servers in a cluster for doing home computation.
i always find these silly, but i actually have a need for one now that im trying to cut loose from all cloud services/subscriptions

while #Gnome isn't working on my laptop, I decided to downgrade for now ✨

I just wrote a self-hosted #dyndns server using #knotdns, #bottle for the update server (https PUT), and a #python client to detect IP changes. It's running on #AlpineLinux, the code is minimal and it only uses packages that are in the Alpine repos. Full #IPv4 and #IPv6 support, you can use either or both.
Why? It's a cool project, and IMHO every dyndns clients and services I tried were bad, insecure, or both.

Been looking at https://mastodon.cr/@Linux/115169452668677399 and thinking that it's probably time to leave #Ubuntu and try something based outside of the #USJurisdiction .
I was hoping to stick with a #Debian based #LinuxDistro, but looks like that isn't possible.
Currently, I'm looking #AlpineLinux (https://www.alpinelinux.org) for no other reason than it looks nice, supports #flatpak and has native packages for some of the core apps/utilities that I currently use.
Somewhere I have a spare laptop so can try it on that first. A nice project for this weekend. 🙂

In der Zwischenzeit habe ich es auch geschafft, die Folien meiner beiden #CLT2023 Vorträge einzusenden. Sie sind inzwischen verlinkt, ebenso wie die Videoaufzeichnungen - vielen Dank an @sontag 😃

I just finished building a reproducible environment for my #BitRitter app via #NixFlakes. This way, it should be easier to ove things into #NixPkgs when i am ready, since all dependencies and build instructions are already there.
I need to clean up a bit, but i am happy with the first results.Next to #AlpineLinux or rather #PostmarketOS, #NixOS (Mobile) will be the second target for my use case.

Anybody good with cutting videos? 🎬 If so, we could use your help with attaching Q&As to #alpineconf videos etc:
