Just updated my Fairphone 5 ArchLinux packages to the latest call audio kernel/ucm/q6voiced versions and I'm happy to confirm call audio now seems to work out of the box without major issues.
Thanks to the work done by @valpackett, the bottom speaker is no longer firing for me during calls (producing an echo). That was my last known issue.
Hopefully this can be upstreamed to #postmarketOS soon, I think people are going to enjoy this.

In around two weeks I’m migrating from iOS to a postmarketOS phone. Please leave app suggestions, I’m definitely going to need them!
Waydroid is… fine, but not preferred Please avoid android apps unless it’s something that is like confirmed to work well on waydroid, is proprietary or something so has no alternatives or something like that. I’m not launching waydroid to listen to music, to read my e-mails or to use xmpp.
Some examples of what I’m looking for, probably for Plasma Mobile:
- Is there like… LibreOffice Mobile or something? To substitute the iWork suite?
- Apple Music clients
- Something self-hosted to substitute Siri, with ability to set timers and stuff
- A reminders app that can sync with a caldav server
- Is there a port of GadgetBridge for Linux?
- I’ll probably make my own water logging and HealthKit-alternative app/“protocol” if that’s not a thing yet, but less work is less work if that exists
- A XMPP client, preferably with spaces support
- Immich client (preferably with some form of caching for recent photos)
- Bitwarden client
- HomeAssistant client
- E-mail client
- These will probably go on waydroid, but: WhatsApp, Telegram, Discord and Signal clients
- Some kind of map app, maybe with live traffic data?
- Some kind of backup wizzard to my NAS, tho I’ll probably just make some rsync scripts
- A better keyboard than Plasma Mobile’s default
And also just anything y’all find useful in your daily life with a postmarketOS daily driver, I’m sure I’m forgetting a lot of stuff here.
I know some of those exist for desktop Linux, but I’m obviously looking for stuff made with phones in mind (so like… apps made for gnome should be automatically fine maybe?)
(Also, has anyone managed to get nix’s system-manager to work on postmarketOS? There’s no way I’m configuring all of this by hand every time I need to flash it lmao)

This is a Samsung Galaxy S7 from 2016. It's running Android 14 (Lineage) instead of Android 8 (Samsung). And it's battery life is incredible!
I wish postmarketOS would work on it…

postmarketos: samsung-expressatt: mesa a225
sent a quick patch over to #mesa enabling adreno 225 support:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/merge_requests/41702thought that i could get ahead of the curve and upstream part of gpu already. that way it’ll be available when i actually upstream to linux
upstreaming has slowed significantly. im having trouble managing comments and keeping the shared tree up to date. 😵💫 anyone have solutions? b4?
anyways, im trying to get as many features working as fast as possible 😄

Just tried out systemctl soft-reboot on #postmarketos for the first time. Really good feature. Thank you #systemd

postmarketos: samsung-expressatt: linux: gpu, hw-acceleration, and phosh
phosh now works with ai help :). got gpu and had to modify mesa a bit
takes 10 mins to boot (!) but it works. @phosh would it be useful to provide a flamegraph on a 2012 armv7 phone?
im thinking of making a downstream kernel pkg while upstreaming all these features just so i can move it to community
upstreaming my patches is a slow process unfortunately. 1 patch hasnt been merged for 2 kernel cycles

2 weeks ago I gave a talk about postmarketOS at the spring NLUUG (Netherlands Unix Users Group) conference.
It's in English so should be accessible to all!

Today, I attempted to do a release upgrade of #PostmarketOS on my #PinePhone. I started out with errors on two packages which prevented the upgrade from happening (and which weren't fixable with "apk fix").
Uninstalling those -- fortunately not critical -- and I got the upgrade script to run. Now I'm left with a console login on the phone screen, with no on-screen keyboard. I think a reinstall is in order.
I remain sadly unconvinced by the usability (at all) of PostmarketOS.

and everyone involved:
THANKS FOR THE sdm845 KERNEL UPGRADE! 🎉

Finally I have managed to flash #postmarketOS onto my old Nexus 7 tablet, the only device I have that supports pmOS.
It took some attempts (...a lot of attempts) to get into APX mode and do the whole backup the bootloader and flash u-boot thing, and accidentally bricking the bootloader once during the process, before I could actually flash the pmOS image onto it.
So cool! ...Well, it doesn't have hardware acceleration, XFCE is not really intended for touchscreen devices, and in general it seems slow even when I'm connected via SSH.

PSA for the sdm845-users in @postmarketOS running edge: linux-postmarketos-qcom-sdm845 was just updated to version 7.1!

My Sunday challenge: installing #Devuan in place of #OpenBSD on my laptop so I can install #postmarketOS on an old tablet, because for some reason I only have a blue USB port on that laptop (my SFF PC has a whole bunch of USB ports, but none are blue). Let's see how well restoring the backup will work once I reinstall OpenBSD.
I wonder how many years worth of work would it take to create a #NetBSD / #smolBSD based mobile distro after #postmarketOS has done more progress...

снова на #postmarketOS! (ну вот ничему меня жизнь не учит :neofox_laugh_sweat: )
