I love the idea of #CityStrides, which is basically a game where you try to "run" all the streets in your "city" and compete against everyone else doing likewise.
But because the US concept of cities doesn't really map on to the haphazard nature of administrative boundaries in the UK, our "city" is actually an entire county with many towns and villages and miles upon miles of rural country road.
Couple that with the fact that we walk instead of running, and it's going to take us a while!
So in the meantime we spend most Sunday mornings driving out to some small town and walking as much of it as possible in one go before my leg starts to complain.
Makes for some weird route maps! 😄

"Monterey County Supervisor Chris Lopez…[noted] residents might not even be aware they are traveling onto federal land. 'The thought that my kids would be torn for me simply for having chosen to take them fishing with a broken taillight is absolutely horrendous,' Lopez said.
[Likewise for having chosen to take them biking at Fort Ord Nat'l Monument.]
…
“Various areas across #MontereyCounty are multi-jurisdictional, meaning different agencies may conduct traffic stops or conduct law enforcement investigations. People may be subject to different laws when on federal land, e.g., possession of recreational or medicinal marijuana is illegal in national parks, post offices & federal buildings, although legal for adults 21+ in California. People could also be subject to #immigration enforcement.“County’s list includes Ft Hunter Liggett, Camp Roberts, Ft Ord Nat'l Monument, Naval Postgraduate School, Los Padres Nat’l Forest, Pinnacles Nat’l Park & more."

I'd really love to see an #OpenHardware, #OpenSoftware matrix mixer & DSP processor.
Likewise for modern PA systems, in order for them to be any use, you must rely on a proprietary matrix mixer and DSP processor to process and route the signals from the mixers to the loudspeakers.
While I think this is largely "fine", it would be great to have something for smaller venues and operators who are running older and maybe cobbled together systems. Ditto for up-and-coming speaker system designers.

There's certainly some scope for a MUD to run on a couple SAM Coupes linked together via the built in network ports. Ideal fodder for demonstrating at retro shows and museums.
Likewise, when we get a Telnet client for the Trinity Ethernet Interface that'll open up playing online MUDs on SAM.

2/2…pretending to be a battery. Of course no one will care if it performs below but still remotely near specs offered at the show. Likewise with production and scaling. There will be forgivenesses…
We know these kinds of leaps in #Engineering/ #Technology are rare. We also know they’re likely to become more frequent. And instantly copied. So no one will blame #DonutLabs for protecting a niche until they get off the ground. I’ll leave the sleuthing to others…but I’d start with a patent search -

Kick rocks!
That’s what we started to do, attempting to use our feet to clear the west shoulder of Olmsted Rd near Hwy 68 / CA SR 68. Then we noticed the east shoulder and travel lanes were likewise strewn with many rocks! Don’t know what mishap left that mess, but we’re reporting to road cleanup crews : https://bikemonterey.org/where-to-report-a-bikeway-maintenance-need-in-monterey-county-plus-maintenance-needs-for-california-state-highways.html.

"A slew of generous hiring incentives, including student loan forgiveness and a $50,000 signing bonus, were announced to facilitate the recruitment of 10,000 new ICE agents.3Border Patrol applicants likewise see incentives up to $30,000 depending on their location assignment. By October ICE was struggling to vet more than 150,000 applicants in their hiring pipeline. Assuming federal hiring targets are met, the total number of ICE Deportation Officers will increase from 6,000 to 16,000, while Border Patrol Agents rise from roughly 20,000 to 23,000. These increases are largely in keeping with the agencies’ history of periodic funding spurts at times when border politics moves up the headlines; yet they mark a new era for ICE’s Enforcement and Removal (ERO) team, whose staffing levels had plateaued since the previous interior enforcement surge under Bush and Obama.
Federal spending records show that, as of October, ICE had also increased weapons spending by 600 percent compared to 2024, mostly on small weapons and armor. Another $25 million in contracts has gone to facial-recognition and monitoring software to find and detain the agency’s growing list of targets. These investments reflect not just an expanding force but also an increasingly militarized and technologized one, planning for sustained operations in US cities. It has become routine for immigration agents and allied federal law enforcement officers to use crowd-control tactics like tear gas, flash bang grenades, and rubber bullets alongside excessive physical force to “manage” protesters and apprehend noncitizen targets."

#ItsTheLitttleThings The #incandescent light bulbs arrived today & within 10 minutes of replacing the LED bulb with one, my #vertigo level crashed down to basically non-existence from my struggling to walk in it's severity.
*I know incandescent bulbs are more expensive than LEDS & I likewise acknowledge that with our wastful centralized generation & distribution systems, that LEDS are almost certainly more eco-friendly on their own within said system than incandescent bulbs, but the balance to me is clear.
Near constant moderate to high vertigo levels, which cause me to dirty & damage enough things to easily outpace any "financial savings" within a few weeks & a theorical environmental "savings" that especially with the consumption graph curve would be infinitesimally small if it even existed- after all the destruction elements were included,....or a restoration of my mild vertigo most of the time that I can & do generally ignore.

Come to think of it, "overmorrow" is *also* obsolete in English. But "oormore" in Afrikaans is not, and likewise, directly translates to "overmorrow", meaning, "The day after tomorrow." :) #English #Afrikaans #words

I overall think the #OpenSource technology world/sphere is about 70% there in development of systems, that everyone can use with a reasonable amount of effort, but the lapse set is affordability and #DisabilityAccessibility (mostly for mobility issues). Likewise it's mostly in the #Hardware not #software nor #OS spheres, (70/10/20 split) which is why not finding much if any chatter on the Hardware problems is so disheartening, because it needs the most work.

Another channel where I'd love to see you appear, if you can, is Louis Rossmann's. Louis is a very active advocate for #RightToRepair and #RightToOwn, a likewise active opponent of #surveillanceCapitalism and #enshittification, and a strangely effective herder of tech-culture cats. He founded the Consumer Rights Wiki [1], and lobbies and organizes political campaigns which get gamers and PC builders out to city halls and state legislatures. His YouTube channel has 2.47 million subscribers, similarly active to the GamersNexus viewers, and the Consumer Right's Wiki editors may soon give the venerable @molly0xfff a run for her (figurative) Wikipedian money.
He's also covered the Bloomberg #DMCA abuse against GN [2], and volunteers to fund legal battles against such corporate #censorship. There's likely a large part of the combined audiences of GamersNexus and of Rossmann's channel which do not overlap demographically (or, for a significant portion, politically) with typical audiences of the venues where I've seen or heard of you (@pluralistic) presenting the book so far, yet those audiences are certain to be amenable to your message, so talking with those audiences could help both the sales and the mission of the book.
