Have been hacking at #rocknix last week or so. Implemented a few bits mainly cleaning up the networking code but likewise have implemented comprehensive memory-management subsystem and tonight did the integration bits to expose it natively through #emulationstation #RetroGaming #handheld #linux

It's weird that #PPSSPP has its own system for save files and makes you login to #retroachievements separately, but I guess I should be happy it supports RA at all 🫤

Too bad it doesn't support #Rocknix's on-screen keyboard. Guess I'll need to pair a Bluetooth keyboard.

#retrogaming is never as seamless an experience as I could hope for.

It's not all 🌞 🌈 with my #RetroidPocket5; every time it restarts I have to hold the volume up button to boot into Grub from the #Rocknix card or else it winds up back in Android. Also, it doesn't seem to want to charge very fast (if at all) when it's not in Android. After my last one nearly caught fire I'm kind of okay with that I suppose.

Can't wait to get the 1tb SD card in this puppy so I can scrape some box art and commit to some save files.

I suppose I could get cloud syncing set up so my save files can transfer between my #RetroidPocket and my #Anbernic. I've just never had the spoons to try it.

I could probably mount my NAS and VPN while I'm at it so I can access my entire collection.

God these #Rocknix #handhelds are a fun can of worms!

Initial experience with #PSP games on the #RetroidPocket5 is mostly good! BurnOut runs with some stuttering. I can probably tweak some settings to get it to a steady FPS. #PPSSPP crashed and caused #Rocknix to reboot once, and I can't find a way to run it as a #libretro core so that Auto-Saves work consistently. I'm hopeful that those details can get worked out.

I got #Rocknix installed on my #RetroidPocket5. But it's #PSP emulator doesn't accept .7z files so I've got to decompress my whole collection and convert them to .chd files. Also, the Dreamcast .chd files I built from redumped bin+cues aren't compatible with #FlyCast so I've got to convert all of those to .gdi then re-chd them. I hope Launch ox doesn't lose all my favorites when I switch the files 😖

My replacement #RetroidPocket5 comes today!

I need to install #Linux on it (probably #Rocknix) and see how the #N64 and #segaSaturn compatibility is. My #Rockchip powered #Anbernic #RGArc doesn't have great #emulation support for a lot of #games, and the reason I bought the #Retroid was in hopes that the #Snapdragon GPU would have better compatibility

If it performs the same then I may just resell it because the problems I had with my last unit have not inspired me with confidence

Includes several new targets #retroidpocket5 among them and my btrfs external SD support which makes sharing sd from #SteamDeck viable and NFS collection support.

But the #Powkiddy #RGB10X is an interesting option as well; similar performance as the #RG35XXPlus so it's one analog stick could do some #PS1 #gaming! It's got official support from #Batocera and #ArkOS, but I bet it gets #Rocknix support soon.

$40 is a good deal for a #Rockchip powered #handheld!

@oldthink34 well it depends on the SoC mainly; there are projects like #Rocknix that have #Linux distros for various #Rockchip based handhelds. #Lakka supports a lot of #Amlogic devices, #Batocera supports a bunch of others.

That #Razer is based on a #Snapdragon G3X which is a beast of a chip, but I'm not aware of any opensource distros on #Qualcomm chips.

Maybe some #Ayaneo #PocketS owners have heard of something? #ayaNeoPocketS

There are still some kinks left to work out:

#Rocknix lets you swap the confirm button from B to A in #EmulationStation, but it's still that way in #YabaSanshiro and #RetroArch.

I'd like for it to auto save when I quit a game and start back at that place the next time I play, like in #garlicOS

Turns out #Rocknix needs it's roms in a /roms folder while the stock #Anbernic keeps it at the root of the ext card. I seem to remember that from when I installed #GarlicOS on my #RG35xx.

I wish all these #opensource #emulation projects could get together and standardize a few things. Feels like a solvable problem.

I downloaded the #RockNix image for my #RGArc, and flashed it to an SD Card with Balena Etcher. It boots right up! I managed to setup the WiFi and pull down the latest update too, so it's already functioning better than the stock #Anbernic OS!

It can't find any of the #Roms, even on the stock SD card, but it wouldn't be #Linux if there wasn't something to fix!
