Todayβs bike ride followed an afternoon of #CalBike Policy Advisory Council meeting, then reviewing AB 2168 (ATP Reform) and SB 569 (Bike Lane Integrity), and other office tasks. As the San Diego County, Californiaβs City of Carlsbad "Snapshot of fines associated with violationsβ in https://www.carlsbadca.gov/departments/streets-traffic/traffic-safety/electric-bikes notes, βThe actual fine does not include approximately $300 dollars in additional court fees.β
Similarly true here in Monterey County. For example, while state law allows a $25 fine for Helmet Required [for minors], 21212(a) CVC, in actuality, if youβre under 18 and are cited for no helmet in Monterey County, youβre typically going to be out $193 due the court, not $25. Thatβs why Bicycling Monterey offers an alternative https://bikemonterey.org/bike-equity-project-alternative-to-fine-for-traffic-citations.html that is appreciated by local families: https://bikemonterey.org/youth-bike-and-sometimes-receive-citations.html.
Donations to help support that project β or to provide helmets for youth without one β are needed and appreciated. How to donate: https://bikemonterey.org/about/financial-donations

"There's no four-way stop. We're on the corner of the district office, and there's not a school #crosswalk here. There's three hills where people #speed down. We don't have #SpeedBumps. It's just, it's a dangerous intersection.β https://www.ksbw.com/article/pacific-grove-student-injured-scooter-crash/65608797
