  6. "One of those major safety issues includes a light that will be removed. A #roundabout will be in its place. They're also improving the connection between the #bike and #pedestrian #bridge and the path to North #MontereyCounty High School.” ksbw.com/article/castroville-b

Speaking of North County bike and pedestrian bridges, ICYMI, here’s a favorite that also serves North #Monterey County High School students, and others. bikemonterey.org/completion-ca

  7. Art created by Monterey County native John Cerney graces landscapes and buildings in Calgary, Alberta and many U.S. states, including Alabama, Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, and Wyoming.

A personal favorite is this one in Sand City, California—because the woman at the left is our dear friend Lila Daoud! Cerney’s fellow artist Olia Polovneff painted Lila and the little baseball player for this scene.

We’ve photographed some Cerney art while #biking #Monterey County, e.g., see our old Giant hybrid by one in our Youth Center post bikemonterey.org/probation-dep; another in our dog-lovers post bikemonterey.org/tips-for-dog- and bike rentals pg bikemonterey.org/tips-for-tour.

Visit Cerney’s site for many more: johncerneymurals.com/projects.

  8. In honor of #WorldPoetryDay, here's a photo of my bicycle at Stevenson House in downtown #Monterey, taken on a sunny day in February 2010.

Today one of my brothers was lamenting #DaylightSavingsTime, and I automatically responded by reciting to him a poem by Robert Louis Stevenson, "Bed in Summer." (An excerpt: "In winter when the moon is bright, I dress by yellow candlelight. In summer, quite the other way, I have to go to bed by day.")

Grateful to our mom for reading "A Child's Garden of Verses" and other poetry to us. I treasure the old book she held when she first introduced us to Stevenson— "The Child's World: Volume 1, Stories of Childhood" (Chicago: The Child's World, Inc, 1954)—which included many other favorite poets too, e.g., Christina Georgina Rossetti and Rose Fyleman.
