“The project is closing the gap in an 18-mile, Class-1 bike trail that runs from Castroville to Pacific Grove,” City Manager Vibeke Norgaard told the TAMC board on Aug. 31.
It was the first public presentation on a project that has been contemplated since 1982, and now has public grant funds in the pipeline to build the $12 million project.

The bicycle education program at the Monterey County Probation Department Youth Center was founded by Bicycling Monterey in April 2012 and still rolls on in April 2025!
The bike tech class series—providing bicycle repair and maintenance instruction—is only possible because of two volunteers who stepped up in 2012 and still continue volunteering on this 13th anniversary: Frank Henderson and Luciano Rodriguez.

Friday is farmers market day at Del Monte Center, Monterey. Don’t know who rode this bike to DMC today, just appreciate that they did. DMC is in city of Monterey. The city’s bike-aware leaders, e.g., Mayor Tyller Williamson and Council Member Gino Garcia (whose day job is working for Ecology Action of Santa Cruz / Lets Modo) may be unaware that we formerly had in that Shopping section of the Tips guide a detailed map listing all Del Monte Center bike rack locations. Their ED at that time himself biked to work! Why is that detailed map no longer in our guide?
