I love the idea of #CityStrides, which is basically a game where you try to "run" all the streets in your "city" and compete against everyone else doing likewise.
But because the US concept of cities doesn't really map on to the haphazard nature of administrative boundaries in the UK, our "city" is actually an entire county with many towns and villages and miles upon miles of rural country road.
Couple that with the fact that we walk instead of running, and it's going to take us a while!
So in the meantime we spend most Sunday mornings driving out to some small town and walking as much of it as possible in one go before my leg starts to complain.
Makes for some weird route maps! 😄

CW: Very unhealthy food
Just walked five and a half miles in the rain, all to collect 15 more streets in #CityStrides. Because it turns out I'm only willing to exercise if it's gamified enough, apparently.
But now, a reward stottie to make it all worthwhile! No regrets.

Inevitably, #Walktober ended in a downpour - but at least this #duck is enjoying the #rain! (#StreetArt from #JamesStraffon)
And I've loved the month of evening & urban #walks—keeping my legs moving through dark of the year
Thanks @GoJauntly for the idea & #CityStrides for location inspiration!#CityStrides can be a great way to find those bits of #London I can easily to get to, yet habit and pinch-points keep me away. But tools can be the most dangerous masters – I need to resist the temptation to stare at the map too much, keep seeing the world around me.

I reached a little personal milestone at the weekend: I have now completed half the streets in the city (municipality) of Malaga, as measured by CityStrides.
The city has 4580 named streets, and I have covered 2291 of them on foot.
CityStrides is probably my 2nd most used OpenStreetMap "end user" application, after OsmAnd.

How much do I know my city? It seems not much! Only 5.25% mapped. Just found Citystrides, it helps me to map my runs and run new streets with WorkOutDoors. One dev project I'm happy to support.

Today I broke through 1000 named streets completed (walked or run) in the city of Málaga, as measured by CityStrides.
Only another 3600 to go. The first 1000 took me more than 10 years, so....
As an OpenStreetMap contributor, there is a nice feedback loop using tools like this that are based entirely on OSM data. Streets that should be tagged as private become obvious. And I've found many residential streets that should be tagged as steps.

The Finca La Palma barrio in Malaga is perfect for racking up the street count for any kind of EverySingleStreet tracking. I added 19 streets to my total in 20 minutes, but still somehow managed to miss one!
I also confirmed all the sidewalks and pedestrian crossings with StreetComplete, and took a few notes to be added to OSM later.
Anyone else here combining mapping with EverySingleStreet apps like #CityStrides, #StreetFerret, or #Wandrer.earth?

I plotted a run last night, ticking off a corner of my fair town, which pushed me into 70% complete.
I've got another run mapped around/near a friends place which should get me a bunch more roads, and be a nice longish run. It's a good way to turn some boring miles into a diversion, if you need that.

Anyone else sort of hooked on #CityStrides #Running
got a little wild running dead ends, and driveways the past few weeks. 2nd in my small town, rapidly approaching #1, but I want to do it with a long run snagging a bunch of streets. silly games to keep running fun.

@rjayasinghe heute neue Version: fahre mit öffentlichen nach Durlach, laufe dort ein paar Straßen und laufe dann zurück. D-Ticket schafft Möglichkeiten. #wandrer #citystrides

@rjayasinghe glaube ich sofort.
@rjayasinghe Morgähn!
Heute probiere ich mal wieder mit #citystrides voran zu kommen. Fahrrad Anfahrt, Lauf, Rückfahrt. Ugh. -
Long distance footpaths aren't what they used to be. I'd walked all of "Pennine Way" before 10am this morning 😂 - I was expecting more than a short run of bungalows tbh!
And then (because I had 100 more urgent things to research) I went looking and found that the Pennine Way footpath was named in 1965, and the short road in Barnsley, with other hill named roads nearby, seems to be on the 1955-61 OS map. So I have walked the original Pennine Way I guess!

It has become a tradition I'm going for a run during our LAN party.
At first it was just me, later others have joined. Distance between 6km and 21km to sweat out that alcohol.Today it was almost 15km and also running some streets for #citystrides

BREAKING: local man achieves yet another pointless milestone just before new year #citystrides
-
@gazebo_c yes, finally i got that shit too…
My normal Pace is not that Great: 5,05 to 5,45 min per km. But i typically run each day new ways and that slows me down quite a bit. I‘m addicted to #citystrides and #wandrer.
