Eight new #gas and #OilWells have been approved for San Ardo.
“These enhanced# oil recovery methods come with all the risks of traditional production,” says Cooper Kass, an attorney with the Center for Biological Diversity, a watchdog organization which has filed multiple lawsuits regarding California’s oil and gas industry. “They also bring a number of additional risks, including the potential for the high-pressure injection to damage the wellbore and/or crack the surrounding rock, which could lead to migration and #groundwater contamination.”—Report by Katie Rodriguez, #MontereyCountyNow

"'In an ideal world, we would have bike lanes with a physical barrier everywhere. That’s what’s needed. The reason more people don’t bike is primarily the fear of cars, and you can’t blame them.'”
—Bicycling Monterey’s founder, in cover story, "Can advocates make local streets safer for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers?"

"The study suggests, among other ideas, that the trolley could be expanded beyond summer months and utilized to connect not just #Monterey and P.G. [#PacificGrove], but even more of the #MontereyPeninsula, creating a #CarFree way to get around.”— @pammarino #MontereyCountyNow https://www.montereycountynow.com/blogs/opinion_blog/expanding-trolley-service-is-just-an-idea-for-now-but-it-should-be-pursued/article_31f82d12-7b88-48be-8d01-ba2c4cb0b975.html
BTW, there are bicycle racks on trolleys too. Tips for taking your bike aboard a trolley or a large or small MST #bus: https://bikemonterey.org/monterey-salinas-transits-summer-trolley-service.html

“E-bikes are part of a solution for our #transportation problems, our #climate problems and for our municipal #budget problems. And finding a way to rebalance our #infrastructure so that pedestrians, bicycles and cars can coexist is in everyone’s best interest.” - Monterey County Sustainability Program Manager Cora Panturad, as reported by Aric Sleeper, #MontereyCountyNow https://www.montereycountynow.com/news/local_news/pacific-grove-city-council-explores-options-to-regulate-problematic-e-bike-use/article_0142cb8a-3667-4f83-926c-9beafac22c94.html #MontereyCounty #BikeTooter #cycling #biking #PacificGrove #ebikes

"Councilmember Lori McDonnell said just recently a black oystercatcher lost its clutch of eggs after a #drone came near. "My takeaway from this story is that all of us need to rethink using chemical pesticides at our homes and businesses. Even so-called organic pesticides like Bacillus thuringiensis, or BT, are highly toxic to monarchs and other butterflies.”—Pam Marino / @pammarino, #MontereyCountyNow https://www.montereycountynow.com/blogs/opinion_blog/monarchs-face-an-uphill-battle-for-their-survival-it-s-up-to-us-to-help/article_cf7fe0b8-e8d8-11ef-b7c8-9f30411eb64b.html#tncms-source=mosaic

Thanks to Pam Marino @pammarino for bringing to our attention “Walk Every Street PG” https://www.montereycountynow.com/news/local_news/a-new-group-in-pacific-grove-seeks-to-walk-every-street-while-building-community/article_07c5a2d4-d919-11ef-9725-2f8835902fbe.html (January 23, 2025), and kudos to founders Ashley Edge and Amy Burkman. As Edge said, “You can drive all you want but to really know a place, you need to walk it.” (And that’s similarly true for people who bike vs drive.)
We encourage walking groups to consider including “walk audits” to identify for cities where infrastructure improvements are needed. As highlighted in the Resources / Los Recursos section on bikemonterey.org https://bikemonterey.org/resources, AARP teamed up with the League of American Bicyclists to create Bike Audit Tool Kits, in English and Spanish, and AARP has Walk Audit Tool Kits too. Print copies or downloads are available free. Anyone can do a walk or bike audit. In fact, the best are done by people with varying perspectives and mobility needs.#Bike #Walk #MontereyCounty #USA #PacificGrove #MontereyCountyNow #BikeAuditToolKit #WalkAuditToolKit #AARP #BikeLeague
