It is super annoying that cities take care of streets for cars — and even for bikes — but leave pedestrian infrastructure in the hands of private property-owners, who may or may not have the money or contracting skill to maintain them. Even when we do, it's very expensive and often requires long waiting times. In the meantime we're responsible if people slip and fall. This is an anti-pedestrian policy. I had an air filter attached to the rear of my #Kombi, and then I realized that I couldn't shift. One of the cords that I had used to secure the hepa filter was on the derailleur. It was an easy thing to fix, but it reminded me just how much I hate derailleurs (and any kind of external gears in general). #BikeTooter #CargoBike #BikeNYC #BikeQNS

If you have never ridden a #bike before— and #nyc is an admittedly challenging place to learn- come uptown and have fun with friends in a car-free #NYCbike #bikeNYC zone. Its an #urbanists delight.

That was fun. I was crossing the Queensboro Bridge when I notice a dad and his kid biking in front of me. When we get to Skillman I pass them and say to the dad, "He's doing great!" Turns out they're biking all the way to Forest Hills, and the kid is the same age as my daughter and they were previously in the same school & class. We chatted the rest of the 6mi ride home. #BikeNYC #BikeQNS
It made me miss #KidicalMass. We should have one on the #QueensBlvdPBL @transportationalternatives.

A few weeks ago I wandered into a #BikeDelivery wonderland. I didn't have time to stop to chat with them for more info, but this block in midtown #Manhattan had tons of people using #URB-E trailers for last-mile #delivery by #bike.
There was a mix of different bikes, but most looked like rebranded Terns. Not the best video, but I counted at least 20 bikes + trailers with different trailer setups (some large boxes, others w/ plastic tote containers, etc).

So, like, what in the hostile architecture is up with this fence on #QueensBlvd? Is that to ensure that drivers on BOTH roads have enough space to illegally park on the curb? Is it to keep people from camping? Was someone at #NYCDOT drunk?

Opposite Billings Lawn somewhat north of Inspiration Point on the Empire State Trail roughly at GPS coordinates 40°51'36.3"N 73°56'07.6"W or 40.860078, -73.935440 there is a terribly narrow pinch point. 9A has three driving lanes AND immense breakdown lane. Just found out that the bike path I use to commute to work has (predictably) partially collapsed.
18 months ago, #nyc parks closed the uppermost part of the #HudsonRiverGreenway for “repairs” to sinkholes. They didn’t repair them. They allowed a contractor to put asphalt across the top. #bike #bikeNYC is broken now uptown.

Went to #vote today at #QueensBoroughHall and was pleased to see brand new bike lanes on #QueensBlvd! Not yet protected, and not yet finished (the connection between the old #QueensBlvdPBL and new bike lanes is confusing and awful), but a good start. #Queens #NYC #BikeNYC

Huh. Are the PBLs on Northern Blvd/Broadway any good? Normally I'd take #QueensBlvdPBL/Skillman to get to #LIC, but just noticed that google maps suggests a slightly longer (by .1mi) but less hilly route. I know portions of broadway are still shitty (but then again so are portions of queens blvd).

#nypd continues to occupy the #columbia neighborhood in #nyc
Hard to capture the number of #nypd and cop cars of every size on every block from my bike.
And the #press covering how the protestors prevent folks from getting around … is itself occupying the public #bikenyc #citibike station actually interfering w peoples ability to get around.
It feels like it’s an occupied zone.
I am feeling shame and sadness this morning.

I got excited thinking that this would be a nice N-S and E-W network of protected bike lanes in a place that didn't have any before, but then I saw that the E-W route was a "conventional bike lane".
It's 2023, drivers park on every available surface in #NYC, and we're installing brand new paint-only bike lanes while we also have a legal mandate to install #PBLs. Such 💩.
