  2. I am grateful for folks in the #nycBIKE greenways coalition Theyve been tireless allies for me- some rando person w lotsa opinions who lives in a non gazillionaire neighborhood of upper Manhattan And they’ve got some chops for some legit urban planners and transportation experts Worth A Listen👇

  3. This was the worst rain and localized flooding that I’ve seen in my time biking in NYC. I was literally riding through 1-2 feet of water at times. Fellow cyclists, what say you? Any interesting stories today out there? #bikeNYC #nycbike #flooding #nyc #newyorkcity

  4. It never ceases to amaze me how space efficient bikes are. 32,000 #NYCbike #bikeNYC folks experience the joy of car-less streets by #bike (folks of all abilities) each first Sunday of May in #nyc . It’s not crowded, it’s wholesome. Truly a joyous experience. #5BBT : Five Borough Bike Tour

  5. Super excited for the #HarlemRiverGreenway presentation for #bikeNYC #NYCbike

Cannot wait (okay. It’ll likely be years before the whole thing is open. But we will get there.)

  6. #bikeNYC #NYCbike #bike #nyc Instead of registering e-bikes (Intro 606), how about we address the startling reality of quick and quiet modes of travel? De-Startle the e-bike by giving them their its own unique chorus like other EV’s. I suggest the opening chorus from The Simpson’s.

  7. I am out of town this week.

The nypd chase and reckless driver killing of ANOTHER cyclist - this time in upper Manhattan - is hitting me hard.

I bike this block because it’s the street that connects to entry points for both the Hudson River and Harlem River greenways. threads.net/@atthenius/post/DB

  8. #bikeNYC #NYCbike #NYC Comptroller Brad Lander has released his recommendations for micromobility expansion.

    Big takeaways:
=> regulate and provide for emicromobility/bike batteries much better
=> regulate and license deliveristas moving around nyc by e-vehicle
=> get streets to catch up with the diverse micromobility times threads.net/@atthenius/post/DB

  9. #bikeNYC #NYCbike #nyc - Chicago made its streets 27% less deadly from 2021 to 2024. If we could have done that, we would have saved 56 lives each year (Jan-Sep numbers) threads.net/@atthenius/post/DB

  10. My friend Rosa Yolanda Pineda has organized an event to get more folks CYCLING in Uptown Manhattan on an Open Street.

If you have never ridden a #bike before— and #nyc is an admittedly challenging place to learn- come uptown and have fun with friends in a car-free #NYCbike #bikeNYC zone. Its an #urbanists delight.

  11. I 🐔 out of the 45-mile loop of #TourDeBronx last weekend,here I atone:
#bikeNYC #NYCbike eastern portion- by #bike to Orchard Beach- from WaHI

The hardest (least bike lanes, most urban density&steepest grades) is the boundary of #Manhattan and The #Bronx- after that, bike lanes through this borough are the greenest, prettiest, respites w views of rivers and bays and marshes on par w anywhere in the Northeast

  13. Went to community board 9 meeting for #bikeNYC #NYCbike to get a safe detour for my #bike lane that was washed out through neglect X climate change

    nyc.streetsblog.org/2024/09/23

But again some rando dude says I don't get it bc of generational NYC'ers

This forever outsider came to #NYC a few months pre-9/11; stayed after school; got a job. My teen kids were born here. Faced down the public school system. Stayed through 4 'post tropical’ hurricanes & scariest covid days

    Now I want a safe bike lane🫳🎤

  14. Bike infrastructure CANNOT function as a transportation network unless there is reliability of service.

Two sections of the Hudson River Greenway — in parts, the busiest bike path in the nation, are closed for many months — with a note (I mean detour sign) ‘good luck and don’t die there on Broadway along that truck route’.

  15. My office hvac is broke. So I am remotely working from the #nyc greenways summit part of my day.

Oh the joy of having the #NYCparks employee literally running from me because they don’t have a plan to fix the #HudsonRiverGreenway which succumbed to years of neglect and extreme rain and now has collapsed in a section.

Now I bike on the #HarlemRiverGreenway — it isn’t far behind in collapsing from extreme rain.

Mark Levine #manhattan borough president is having a AMA Tuesday 9/10 at 2p:

    reddit.com/r/MicromobilityNYC/

I am livid that I am still unable to do my bike commute because #nycparks through hubris and neglect allowed a sinkhole to take the path out— 18 months after closing said path and supposedly fixing it.

    nyc.streetsblog.org/2024/08/23

Let’s tell him that bikes ARE transportation.

We need the same sense of urgency to keep bike lanes safe and passable as cars get for highways.

I submit Ive got one of the* best #bike commutes the world. * #fedibike folks: #OutDoMyBikeRide with some positivity & post your best ride

Inwood, Upper #Manhattan (ironically, locals dub it upstate like we’re in the country, even tho its one of the densest urban environments on the planet, for its proximity to the Hudson&Harlem Rivers and vast park space)

Taking the #MTA #MNR to do the discover the #HudsonValley #bike ride. This has to be one of the prettiest train commutes into #nyc that stretches all the way north to Poughkeepsie.

Crossing our fingers that the rain will clear off this morning.

  28. What an awesome ride. When they shut down car traffic for bikes, that difference in scale of infrastructure investment hits home

#bikeNYC #NYCbike — I found the #5BBT super motivating to redouble my advocacy to expand the bike network in #nyc

#bike transit instead of cars is one GOOD way to help address #climate change. The 40mi /64km ride (incl stops) took just under 3 hrs

Can’t wait for the next Tour de < #Bronx #queens #brooklyn #StatenIsland #Manhattan > to explore each of the boroughs

    whoops.

    I — a #Columbia affiliate — have a professional-protestor style Kryptonite lock and Chain that I use with my RadMission… <sarcasm>

#NYCbike / #bikeNYC folks — what do you think. Got your picture of your lock, too?

If anyone is checking, I also have a few different brands of U-Locks that I also carry. #nypd Emergency Services Unit aren’t the only ones with bike-lock grinders in #nyc

  30. I get why not more people get bikes in #NYC, but seriously, turning a 10-minute walk in the cold into a 2-minute bike ride is amazing.

I know so many who will still walk 20min+ to pick up food or do a grocery run. An easy 5min ride.
