Recently encountered an issue with fire hydrants in NYC. #NYCDOT parking rules state that vehicles cannot park closer than 15 feet to a #hydrant. DOT installed planters about 5 feet from a hydrant giving the impression that parking on the other side of the planter is legal. I am suggesting the planter be moved to 12 feet to ensure that parking on the other side is legal. The rule does not provide exceptions for the position of planters.

@TheOverheadWire Additionally, #NYCDOT will be installing bike lanes (#bikeLanes) on West 72nd Street and there are many naysayers with many theories. Of course, those of us supporting the modification have countering theories based on recent similar modifications and recent crashes. #Insurance would be a way to put a value on those theories.

Just wrote my observations of #CongestionPricing to #NYCDOT. "I do not know how congestion pricing is working citywide but from my apartment overlooking the West Side Highway / Henry Hudson Parkway at 104th Street, the fact that the southbound cars at 7am are moving is simply amazing. Normally at this time I would expect no movement. Congestion pricing so far is amazing.

NYC should at least put up some very stout bollards to give some impression of safety from random acts of vehicle terror. It would be good for business. I'll suggest that to #NYCDOT.

So, like, what in the hostile architecture is up with this fence on #QueensBlvd? Is that to ensure that drivers on BOTH roads have enough space to illegally park on the curb? Is it to keep people from camping? Was someone at #NYCDOT drunk?

Cool, cool. End of August. Sure, no rush, bike lanes don't need protection or anything.
(#NYC's 311 has entries allowing you to report multiple types of 'illegal' games, but nothing for reporting any kind of unsafe bike lane situation. So you just send a generic comment to #NYCDOT Queens commissioner, which may get answered eventually..)

So I'm guessing that #NYCDOT decided to go with "20' combined travel and parking lane" because they wouldn't be able to justify 12' travel lanes (ie, highway-sized lanes).
But a 20' combined travel/parking lane *is* 8' parking and 12' travel lane. That's a choice. Just like it's also a choice to make a 2-way PBL with 4' wide bike lanes in each direction.

The hubris of the NYS DOT is incredible. The only true thing they said was that the bridges are falling apart. Let them. The presenter tried to present the project as something helping the Bronx. Hah!#CBE

First link has a list of electeds to harangue. Supposedly this project passed environmental review (#NEPA). Hah! #NYSDOT and #NYCDOT have proven time and time again to be worthless and misleading. This is no exception. -
#Riverside Drive between 102 and 95 has this large painted median in the center. Essentially a no-mans land but can and will be used by cars to get around double parked cars or bicycles or other slow moving vehicles. #NYCDOT Please make it a single double yellow with a single width bike lanes on each side. Now to send this to NYC DOT.

@KevinFreitas Its too bad that #NYCParks doesn't believe in permeable pavement. They are still using asphalt where they could use permeable grid pavers.
At least #NYCDEP understands permeable pavement. Maybe #NYCDOT can get on board.
