The "temporary" blue box I built 6 years ago with 1/4" ply has finally given up the ghost. Because the 13yo outgrew it and the 7yo still fits into the original box that came with the bike, I decided to restore the original box. After some sanding and staining, it's looking pretty good.
I wonder if I should patch up the holes I drilled (back in 2013) for seatbelt attachments? #Cetma #CargoBike #BikeTooter

Are you ever really too old for a nap in the #CargoBike?

So I show up with my mid-tail (a Yuba #Kombi), and the kids, who are in the super spacious almost 3ft-wide box in the #Cetma that my wife is riding, are like "we wanna go on dad's bike!"
So they both pile on, despite only having one cushion ("I'm sitting on a bike lock! " -7yo humblebrag)
And of course after a minute, the 7yo complains that the 12yo coughed loudly in her ear, and they start fighting about who should be banished to the bakfiet. 🙄

The bike itself (a #Cetma) was designed for a smaller box. We got around it, with a 32in wide box, by adding some 1x4s on each side to create a floor: https://social.ridetrans.it/@Andres4NY/111202858691907447
I used the same trick on my smaller Cetma (a white Margo; the orange one is a Largo). However, the smaller Cetma box is still only like 24in wide, while this one is currently *32* in. I'm betting 30in will be the right size for us.

They are also working on improving safety - they use XT90 power connectors and build their batteries with name-brand cells. I’m realistically hoping to get a couple of years of use from this kit before it dies. https://www.electrifybike.com/products/tsdz2b-osf-upgrade-motor-kit-250-750w #Cetma #EBikeConversion #ebike #CargoBike #Tongsheng #TSDZ2 (2/2)

Rode the Cetma across town a couple of times this morning with the trailer, a bike, and a bunch of random stuff. Not fun on the hills without the motor! #CargoBike #Cetma #ebike #BikeTooter

@Andres4NY My bikes live outdoors year round so I’m used to stuff failing. The charge indicators on the Hailong battery case stopped working about six months ago and I lost a lot of display pixels at about the same time. The only electronics that have survived multiple winters are my Busch + Muller bike lights (I have those on both my #Cetma and #Workcycles bikes). #WinterBiking #WinterCycling

Beautiful day for a ride on the cargo bike, but the Tongsheng motor’s control display kept shutting off and finally died. Off to eBay in search of a replacement… #cargoBike #Tongsheng #SW102 #ebike #Cetma

One of the things I never liked about my other #Cetma's blaq designs rain cover (which, admittedly, was high quality and has lasted > 10 years so far) is the included poles don't break down. So when you were riding around and it was sunny, there was no place to stow the rain cover. And because there was no place to stow the cover on/in the bike, there were times when we didn't have the cover and suddenly the weather got bad. Ultimately we just always kept the rain cover on because of that.

I'm planning make a rain cover for the new #Cetma (paying $500 for a rain cover feels weird when I spent $600 for the entire bike). However, I'm hoping to not have to sew or really expend much effort. So far, I've got 6mm tent poles, a double side-by-side stroller rain cover, and some metal snaps. The stroller cover fits nicely even on the 32" wide box. I still need to figure out how to attach the tent poles to the stroller cover.

@cassey I have a Hinterher Bike Transporter 5 trailer. I pull it with my box bike so I’ve never attempted putting a bakfiets on it. https://shop.hinterher.com/en/Transporter-5/010-100-050-35?cmdf=hinterher+%E2%80%93+transporter+5 #BikeTooter #BikeTrailer #CargoBike #Cetma #Provincetown #Hinterher

@kevinschaper I decided to keep the G70 hailong battery shared between the #Cetma bikes, but installed off to the side like so. There's a key lock on one side and the power button on the other, so if it were centered one or the other would be unreachable.
This Cetma came with a Luna wolfpack battery, which was strapped where the back of the box is. During rides it shakes up and down and bends the plastic platform; this is a lot more stable since it partially rests on the metal frame.

I like the color, but I think it'll need another coat. You can see where the kid did the painting. 😂

"Ooh, curves!" is what my wife said. #BikeTooter #CargoBike #Cetma

I finally got around to building the box.
I'm going to cut out a rectangle about 12" long and 4.5" deep from the top of the box on each side to make it easier for kids (and dogs; I remember having to lift a 70lb dog into the old cargo bike box) to get into and out of the box. If this is a bad idea for some reason (maybe a swinging door is better? Maybe this will make it wetter/colder in the box if we get a rain cover in the future?), tell me now. #CargoBike #BikeTooter #Cetma #Erie #Cats

Baby #CargoBike's first haul (with me, at least).
-
@der_istvan Yes. My first kid we started transporting around 4 months old, the second when she was around a month old. We used an infant car seat inside of a bakfiet (a #cetma)

Hauled three bikes across town on the #Hinterher trailer attached to the big #Cetma #CargoBike. Thankful for the #Tonsheng motor since I never would have made it up the hills on my own! (Took this photo after I removed one bike.) #BikeTrailer #CarryShitOlympics #BikeTooter

It would definitely fit on the #Cetma #Largo - and probably even not sideways, so I'd have an 8' long joust board sticking out the front.
Or I could keep the box on the #Margo and position the boards perpendicular to the ground. That might also be easier than putting it in the flat bed of the Largo. 🤔
But the easiest thing, in terms of having the bike already out and accessible, is still the #Kombi.

Unanticipated issue with have *3* #CargoBikes - trying to figure out which one would work best for hauling plywood. I'd prefer to go with the #Yuba #Kombi, but the runner boards are only 22" long; I'd either have to stack the wood up 8' tall (top-heavy), and still have 2' hanging off the back, or stack it up 4' tall and have 6' hanging off the back.
It would fit in the #Cetma #Margo, but sideways so it'd be 8' wide. And I'd probably want to take the box off, which is always a pain.

I was looking at using marine-grade plywood for the new #Cetma box, but y'know.. given the cost, it just seems not worth it. I'm looking at $200 for equivalent to a 1/2" 4x8 sheet of marine grade birch or similar woods, versus just getting a 4x8 sheet of a different hardwood for $45 and having it only last half as longer.
I'd also happily use a rigid recycled plastic (HDPE) board instead, but that's somehow just as expensive (if not more).

After riding 300 miles on the #Cetma to break in the #Tongsheng motor, I’ve switched back to my #Workcycles FR8 for everyday rides. The difference in comfort is astounding - the FR8 rolls along on a cushion of air. And being fully upright again means my wrists and shoulders are suddenly much, much happier. #BikeTooter #CargoBike #ebike

Bummed that my #Bafang #BBSHD didn't come with a connector to power headlights.. but I've got my #Cetma Margo with a #TSDZ2 that *does* have headlight connectors, & a dynamo hub on the front wheel. So I can move the dynamo hub wheel onto the BBSHD Cetma Largo, & use that for lighting. The TSDZ2 Cetma Margo can switch to using the ebike motor/battery for powering lights.
But seriously, why would you make an ebike motor w/out light connections? (newer BBSHDs now include connectors, I think)

Started some repairs on the #Cetma #CargoBike’s wood box. The salty humid air here really destroys laminated plywood. So far I’ve found this Minwax wood filler is surprisingly easy to use. Off to run some errands and then on to sanding. #BikeTooter

Okay, with a bunch of spokes replaced, the wheel trued and new rim tape, the brakes replaced (mechanical disc to cable-actuated hydraulics), all the cables & housing replaced, the rear frame cold set to be wider, new kickstand feet, and the mid-drive motor tightened, it is now rideable! Need to add a box for the kids and also hook up a battery to see if the motor works. #BikeTooter #CargoBike #Bikes #Cetma
