@dynamic that is true too. The Nokia 1100 was perfect and one of the only reasons I didn't go with it again (besides people expecting you to have Internet and maps and suchlike) was I wanted to be able to use XMPP. My somewhat far-fetched plan was to buy a KaiOS phone and write an XMPP app for it, which as you can see I'm still working on 😅️
I look at my pocket calculator every so often and am like "Hmm, why didn't they—?"

Is there any browser with an inverse #PrivateBrowsing mode?
Basically, all your browsing history, etc. is store locally but cookies and cache data are forgotten each time, so the outside world sees it as a fresh session but you can still see your own history :firefoxnew:

Sampling some #AudioDrama to listen to on the way, although I should ideally be sleeping. You never know 🤪️
Also, audio drama is different from audio books so don't get confused. It's more like radio plays, but #QCODE takes it to the next level with 3D surround sound effects and everything! May be drowned out by the train though so maybe I'll listen to some non-QCODE thing this time so as not to "waste" the sound effects 🤔️

Peeps, what are the rules around using #fandom characters as #TestData for your #software ?
I see a lot of #AliceInWonderland in #XMPP docs, but that's public domain in the US. I've also seen mention J.R.R. Tolkien's works in #Perl 's "Camel Book" and once found #JonSnow on some random docs page—both the works about which I believe are still under #copyright . Do all those docs count as #FairUse or...?

@daemon_nova @liliputing_ they did mention something about it being possible to connect a 5G-capable antenna. Not sure if it's only theoretical or someone's actually done it (the demo device I saw at #IndiaFOSS didn't have it)

One option is to scour #FDroid; of course that doesn't get the majority of popular apps (and very few bloated ones). #APKMirror has a decent collection, but I wonder if they have a decent API to use. Let me check 🔍

#Quicksy as well as downstream clients like #Cheogram and #Monocles should be having it too (I believe Monocles actually implemented support before Conversations did)

@amin I already have a #Dasung #epaper monitor connected to my #Thinkpad, so just need a good keyboard (looking at #Atreus) and monitor stand and stuff to complete my desktop setup. Since my needs aren't that heavy, maybe my #PocketReform can double up as a "desktop" when docked...it's also likely to be more powerful by the time I've saved up enough to be able to afford it 🤪
And yeah I'm making do with a dumbphone already, which has been a bit hard but getting better by the day...I mean year 🚀

@scottwilson I can send you invites to the #Durare #XMPP server (durare.org) if you like. It's operated from India and hosted on Hetzner, so not necessarily the best fit, but it doesn't matter that much and I'm part of the community running it so you can contact me directly if any tech issues come up 🧑🔧

I actually found a different one (rust_cgi), but yours might be better because I can (probably, for example) make an #ActixWeb project and then have a custom executable that receives the call through CGI instead of the regular server.
The other one already uses hyper's http library, but an outdated version, so I'm not sure how that'll play with whatever Actix expects. Since dumb_cgi is nearly nothing, I can see myself fitting it onto whatever :rust:

@praveen I think the main issue with #XMPP right now is lack of nice-looking clients for the "average user". I use #Gajim too, but many of my friends don't like it because it doesn't look as polished as, say, Telegram Desktop. Similarly, there aren't many good options for iOS, especially for those who find #ChatSecure too buggy.
There are quite a few nice clients on the "features" front, but #Conversations and #Dino are the only decent options if "looks" means a lot to you
