  1. @rohini interesting! What caught my attention is (the unrelated fact) that they use the same word for "dog" as in and 🐶

  2. @dynamic that is true too. The Nokia 1100 was perfect and one of the only reasons I didn't go with it again (besides people expecting you to have Internet and maps and suchlike) was I wanted to be able to use XMPP. My somewhat far-fetched plan was to buy a KaiOS phone and write an XMPP app for it, which as you can see I'm still working on 😅️

I look at my pocket calculator every so often and am like "Hmm, why didn't they—?"

By the way, have you seen the ?

  3. Typing on a touchscreen sucks, not least because I have to be constantly *looking* at the screen while typing

    Time to get a ?

  4. Today, the sun rose on a new ; one that is no longer a secular nation.

That the government would push for this is no surprise, but what shocks me is the support it got from , and 😮

  5. @aral agreed! There's something wholesome about thinking "hmm, I wonder how many people are peopling this instance?"

  6. Has nobody here posted about happening in Koramangala, this weekend?

  7. Is there any browser with an inverse mode?

Basically, all your browsing history, etc. is store locally but cookies and cache data are forgotten each time, so the outside world sees it as a fresh session but you can still see your own history :firefoxnew:

  8. that I don't have to install separately for the integration. The plugin comes with everything, software and all! 🤯

  9. Sampling some to listen to on the way, although I should ideally be sleeping. You never know 🤪️

Also, audio drama is different from audio books so don't get confused. It's more like radio plays, but takes it to the next level with 3D surround sound effects and everything! May be drowned out by the train though so maybe I'll listen to some non-QCODE thing this time so as not to "waste" the sound effects 🤔️

  10. Peeps, what are the rules around using characters as for your ?

I see a lot of in docs, but that's public domain in the US. I've also seen mention J.R.R. Tolkien's works in 's "Camel Book" and once found on some random docs page—both the works about which I believe are still under . Do all those docs count as or...?

  11. @thibaultamartin was more prescient than I thought 😳

  12. @daemon_nova @liliputing_ they did mention something about it being possible to connect a 5G-capable antenna. Not sure if it's only theoretical or someone's actually done it (the demo device I saw at didn't have it)

  13. @untrusem was unable to attend due to budget and logistical issues, so it's great to hear he's got a slot at @fossunited's instead! We'll finally get to see the talk that was supposed to happen at 🎉

    fossunited.org/c/lucknow/2025/

This would be good for people who want to get more involved in but are starting from zero (as untrusem was). If you know anyone who could benefit from attending, do share it with them :boostRequest:

  15. @yarmo yeah, okay. Same situation here 😛

One option is to scour ; of course that doesn't get the majority of popular apps (and very few bloated ones). has a decent collection, but I wonder if they have a decent API to use. Let me check 🔍

  16. devs, do you use a and if so which one? I tried searching but couldn't find any up-to-date non-proprietary options. That said, maybe some of the options are good enough even if they haven't been updated in a while...? :php:

as well as downstream clients like and should be having it too (I believe Monocles actually implemented support before Conversations did)

  19. @amin I already have a #Dasung #epaper monitor connected to my #Thinkpad, so just need a good keyboard (looking at #Atreus) and monitor stand and stuff to complete my desktop setup. Since my needs aren't that heavy, maybe my #PocketReform can double up as a "desktop" when docked...it's also likely to be more powerful by the time I've saved up enough to be able to afford it 🤪

And yeah I'm making do with a dumbphone already, which has been a bit hard but getting better by the day...I mean year 🚀

  27. @scottwilson I can send you invites to the server (durare.org) if you like. It's operated from India and hosted on Hetzner, so not necessarily the best fit, but it doesn't matter that much and I'm part of the community running it so you can contact me directly if any tech issues come up 🧑‍🔧

@joinjabber that @debacle mentioned is a good resource for finding out about XMPP and picking a server and of course there's the official @xmpp

  28. @d2718 ooh thanks!

I actually found a different one (rust_cgi), but yours might be better because I can (probably, for example) make an project and then have a custom executable that receives the call through CGI instead of the regular server.

The other one already uses hyper's http library, but an outdated version, so I'm not sure how that'll play with whatever Actix expects. Since dumb_cgi is nearly nothing, I can see myself fitting it onto whatever :rust:

  29. @praveen I think the main issue with right now is lack of nice-looking clients for the "average user". I use too, but many of my friends don't like it because it doesn't look as polished as, say, Telegram Desktop. Similarly, there aren't many good options for iOS, especially for those who find too buggy.

There are quite a few nice clients on the "features" front, but and are the only decent options if "looks" means a lot to you
