#chatsecure keeps telling me that their's a new message... oder xmpp apps do this too, but there is no message when i open the app :think_bread:

Which #xmpp client for #ios? I’m testing and for now #monal < #siskinim < #chatsecure. The last one is first client which is looking like a normal instant messenger app. Two first are like toys.

Um meine Frage (teilweise) selber zu beantworten: es sieht mau aus. #Monal, #ChatSecure und #Siskin sind die üblichen Verdächtigen. Alle haben ihre Schwächen, z.B. fehlerhaftes oder unvollständiges #OMEMO, von #VoIP ganz zu schweigen.

I use #Gajim too, but many of my friends don't like it because it doesn't look as polished as, say, Telegram Desktop. Similarly, there aren't many good options for iOS, especially for those who find #ChatSecure too buggy.

There are quite a few nice clients on the "features" front, but #Conversations and #Dino are the only decent options if "looks" means a lot to you

@Shufei The apps are broken, too. I can barely get #Conversations (Android) and #ChatSecure (iOS) to communicate. And those are the recent once.

I am also getting disappointed with #OpenFire, the #XMPP server I've been using for years now.

@debacle Zumindest #Monal und #SiskinIM tun für uns nicht. #Chatsecure habe ich vor einem Jahr das letzte Mal getestet, da war es aufgrund der unzuverlässigen Benachrichtigungen leider auch keine Option.

Ich hab das Thema für mich jetzt erstmal abgehakt, nachdem meine Kontakte dann irgendwann massiv genervt waren...

#Threema ist weit weg von ideal, funktioniert aber erstmal, und das auch ohne Google Play Services auf meinem Smartphone.

thanks for the feedbacks. So it seems that #Siskin is close but not there yet (to summarize: no #OMEMO for MUC, unreliable Push and OMEMO, and aesgcm not merged yet – those are feedbacks, not my personal experience as I've tested only for a few minutes so far –).

Do you have similar experience and list of problems with #ChatSecure and #Monal? That are the 3 names I see the most when people are talking about #XMPP and #iOS.

Good to find out where money for #security #privacy oriented developers comes from.😬
Every tool should be screened before using it. Don't trust blindly in marketing communication, take a look behind the veil.
Do not relay on centralized services like #Signal #Telegram #Wire #Whatsapp etc. Start using and spread info about #xmpp with #omemo.🗣

Alas, as many pointed before me, the situation of #XMPP clients for #iOS is not as good as #Android 's
Not as good as #Conversation, there is #Chatsecure which kinda works. #Monal is still in heavy development. A "new" client, #kaidan is also on its way to become a good alternative, but we'll have to wait some more time :

Just got an iPhone to test #XMPP clients for a friend and the #fediverse . Basically everything I need works with #ChatSecure

✔ add contacts
✔ OMEMO
✔ OMEMO with attachments
✔ MUC
✔ OMEMO in MUC
✔ OMEMO with attachment in MUC
✔ OMEMO works out of the Box with unknown contacts

minor flaws:
✖ still need to enable OMEMO for MUC in settings
✖ can not create MUCs itself, only join

Habe jetzt #ChatSecure im Kopf und bei @thomas eben was von #Monal gelesen.

As for now I would still go for #ChatSecure on iOS. There were some minor bugfixes in April. Justed latest release and everything worked, afait no bugs:
✔ add contacts
✔ OMEMO
✔ OMEMO with attachments
✔ MUC
✔ OMEMO in MUC
✔ OMEMO with attachment in MUC

minor flaws:
✖ need to be added by contact in order to get OMEMO work
✖ still need to enable OMEMO for MUC in setting
